  1. I was cycling home to ED tonight on a popular cycle route (23) at 6.30 pm. I was passing Michael Faraday primary school on Portland Street. A young boy was standing by the side of the road (roughly 12 years) as I passed he threw a plastic beaker of liquid at my face. The contents were warm and obviously urine from the taste of it :( He immediately ran off. Luckily a male cyclist stopped to assist and gave me some water. I am fine but angry and dirty and a bit shaken. I have contacted police. Cyclists please be aware and vigilant.
  2. Why bother with average speed cameras and 'smiley face' nonsense. Why not put speed cameras that take photos of the idiots speeding and also red light cameras at the lights? People are very motivated to obey the speeds if they realise a speeding fine is involved!
  3. Er no Rupert James. More like selfish car drivers not having grey matter to work out basic road signs and signals. Amber traffic lights don't mean speed up...sadly this happens with worrying frequency on pedestrian crossing. Also many drivers shoot through on red.
  4. Sydenham Hill have a new enforcement camera that slows traffic on what was previously a very busy road. Forest Hill road a newly refurbished one immediately outside Harris Boys. What does it take to get cameras? Public pressure? Lobbying councils?
  5. I have lived in Barry Road environs for over 20 years and did the speed check with Charlie last year. The road is perilous and I am astounded every day by the speed of drivers. The crossing at Barry parade of shops is a joke in that cars fly tbrough amber and green lights. It needs urgent attention.
  6. Thanks for all helpful comments and suggestions. Rang Southwark noise prevention team and have had a great reponse from them. Thanks all.
  7. Hi Anyone else on Henslowe or Friern road (bottom) suffering from insomnia due to hard core rap being played until 1 am most nights? Torture. Especially as Henslowe is one long unbroken terrace so amplified music sounds like we're in a stadium! Who and how do you complain about noise level that keeps you awake even with windows closed?
  8. Happened to me last summer. 2 x large planters with well loved and cared for shrubs. Happened in middle of day and I was in! A neighbour saw a car rev up the street but didn't catch number plate. There is a white van that cruises around the streets with a couple in it that seem to be on the look out for stuff but I think they look more for "unwanted" items. It's such a pain and so selfish to nick other peoples plants!
  9. Now spotted TWO Game of Thrones cast members in Sainsbury?s on Dog Kennel Hill. Firstly Iain Glen (Jorah, Khaleeeesiii?s biggest fan) walking past the cold meats probably looking for a poultice for his gammy arm? Secondly a rather taller than expected Owen Teale (Alliser Thorne, Night?s Watch baddie) buying veg (winter is coming after all so he was probably stocking up!).

  11. Hello I'd like to join your group if possible. Could i ask do you read all books in list each month or pick a few? Many thanks Carolyn
  12. If it's a only in the consultation process then why have the staff been given their notice?
  13. Does anyone have any idea what is happening to Peckham Adventure Playground? The word from the staff is that it's getting the axe :(
  14. Just been there for first time in 4 months. At 5:30 on Saturday afternoon the place was a graveyard. We were the only people outside. What a transformation from the bustling family friendly pub it was. I audaciously posted a comment on Twitter of the empty pub with a lamentation that perhaps removing playground was to blame. I got an insulting tirade back from them saying I shouldn't be out so late it was 6:20 on and was barred from their twitter account. The Twitter response was rude and aggressive. The lack of punters says it all. I agree. Avoid the place.
  15. I am astounded by how much better my hall floor looks. I was previously told by a floor 'specialist' it wouldn't be worth sanding. Errol and Richard did a fantastic job and transformed a patchy, woodwormed, gnarly floor into a hall I'm really proud of. They are genuinely lovley guys and VERY competitively priced. Errols number : 07796 152901
  16. Patryk completed our patio last week. We are thrilled with it. Bye bye horribly slippy and rotting decking, hello lovely stone! It makes the garden look lots bigger. Patryk is an extremely hard and neat worker. He has an aesthetic eye and the finish is fantastic.
  17. I bet you do manwithavan...at ?1 per kilo it's a steal! I found the lovely chap in Nunhead who paid me for my lead (thanks pipsky28) and removed it from my boot for me.
  18. I have acquired scrap lead and copper as a result of house refurbishment (of my house!) and understand it can be sold on. Anyone know of a good local scrap metal dealer? Is there a minimum weight or all amounts considered? Thanks
  19. I had my bike stolen (from inside my house whilst I slept :( ) but I was tipped off that a good deal of locally stolen bikes end up in a bike shop in The Elephant and Castle, aptly named 'Re cycling'... I went in a couple of weeks after the theft and no luck, but almost a month after that hey presto, my bike was there! I knew it was my bike because despite not having kept the frame number and all the transfers had been removed, I had customized my bike with shorter stem and different pedals. I rang the police and they actually rocked up and were very supportive. They made the man in the shop give me my bike back. They also had a look around the shop and said it was "an Aladdins cave" of stolen bikes but they explained that they didn't have the resources to unearth what was going on. My cousin found his stolen bike on ebay last month...he bid for it, said he'd pay in cash and then turned up and got his bike back!
  20. I stand corrected Shelly7229 as I thought you meant the Barry road parade outside Barry's store. Yes, you are bang on, a zebra is needed at the bottom but I would also like to re iterate that even if we peppered Barry Road with Zebras it still wouldn't deter the IDIOTS from racing along like it's the M1. As I said before even with the traffic lights motorists are going SO fast that they barely make the red stop light. I have lived here for 18 years and seen dozens of accidents on Barry Road. Surely a couple of well placed speed cameras would do the trick?
  21. I am looking for an illustrator for my children?s book. It is a simple, feel good and affirming story for LGBT adopted children (aged 3 to 7). I am ideally looking for a student who likes to work in bright and colourful media (including digital media). The types of artists I particularly like are bold, colourful and good at pulling the humour out of the text through their images. I like the styles of: Nick Sharrat, Tony Ross, Axel Scheffer, Colin Mc Naughton and David McKee. Fees could be either a one off payment or through a profit share with the author. This would be a great opportunity as a career platform and for a professional portfolio. Please contact Carolyn at [email protected] if you are interested.
  22. That crossing puts the fear of God into me. I have had cars zoom past through the red light on countless occasions and my children know that the green man accounts for nothing! Why aren't there cameras and speed cameras to stop the aggressive acceleration up Barry Road? Shelley 7229 I would be more than happy to team up and start a petition. The ONLY thing that deters drivers from speeding is the threat of fines I think. I have been mid way crossing with the green man and been almost killed twice :(
  23. I was excited by the prospect of new road humps on Henslowe road because I live on said road, have 2 small children and have witnessed DAILY occurrences of cars driving in excess of 40 mph and occasionally much faster. The old humps were completely useless as they were driven over. I agree the new humps are utterly crap. They have made the road faster. I asked the workmen why the humps were barely humps and they said "for the cars not to get damaged" Lovely. Please can we have proper humps that stop idiots driving at ridiculous speeds up the road. It's simply used as a short cut/rat run by most people who drive speedily because they are pissed off by having had to double back from Friern Closure.
