I can second this - Polly and Steven been coming to us in Peckham for almost 7 years. Very efficient and great to communicate with too. Happy to speak to people in person as recommendation too.

East Dulwich Supper Club + Vegan Edition
tracymcdavis replied to SueJ's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
Due to illness, I have a spare ticket for tonight's supper club. It cost ?32 - but any reasonable offer accepted as is a pity to let such excellent food go to waste. They are communal tables so ideal for lone diners (like I will be tonight). Tracy -

Hi. What's on the menu this week? I'm vegetarian but keen to come. -
Heads up - Interesting threads in the main section
tracymcdavis replied to Keef's topic in The Lounge
I don't - but I am accurately reporting what crossed my mind when I read it. Fair play - it's true - other women can have no clue what other women have to live with too. But that didn't cross my mind at the time. I don't care if it's a man or a women - I care about what has happened. I just think there are circumstances when a rigid rule can be unfair to people we would usually all want to help. I think it's an issue that is important enough to be pointed out and it could be so easily solved. I want women to be able to provide for themselves and feel safe in their own homes. That's it. -

I wanted to say exactly the same thing Sue but knew I'd could be hammered as I have used Jennifer's business and would be seen as biased - I've met the lady in question once. It's nice to know that any women who has concerns for her safety will be treated with such understanding and kindness. While I do understand that Admin has to have rules to ensure businesses are real, surely there is a case for being able to provide alternative evidence - or should any women, who let's face it could have suffered stalking or domestic abuse, not be allowed to advertise their business whilst also keeping themselves safe. It struck me as just so typical of men not having the first clue what many women's normal everyday life is like and how we have to be constantly on guard and afraid. -
Men's bracelet watch strap repair
tracymcdavis replied to monkeyspanner's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Hi. There's a great place in Peckham covered market that does all sorts of watch repairs including straps. It's a tiny shopfront - easy to miss - but it's in there! -
I've just got back from my first facial with Just Jennifer - and I can also definitely recommend her too. In fact it was my first ever facial - I had been thinking about one for a while and read Shoshntosh's review and thought why not! The products are lovely. I don't have any skin condition (except getting older!) so I went for the anti-aging facial. I just keep touching my face - I can't get over how nice it feels. I'm already booked in for my next one - how did survive so long without even trying one before!

Did your New Year's resolutions include something about "giving back" - let us help you with that! Volunteer with us for 90 minutes a week (and just in term-time) with our local Brownies group. We meet on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm at a local school off Lordship Lane. We are a non-religious, non-denominational group - no church parades or other things you remember from the 1970s. We are just interested in giving girls aged 7-10 an adventure packed programme. By volunteering with us, you can help girls build their confidence, learn new skills and have loads of fun. You don't need any experience - just a willingness to pitch in and enjoy yourself. You can be aged 18-80 and you don't have to be female (although I admit most of guiding is). You will be CRB (criminal record) checked if you do decide to volunteer with us regularly. If you'd like to find out more - please PM me and I'll happily call or email more information.

Advice on shipping house move items cheaply
tracymcdavis replied to tracymcdavis's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Thanks to everyone who sent info on this - I was investigating the sendmybag site. But, good news, my friend has got a job based in the US but for a UK company and so will be over in the new year when we will be able to sort everything out - some being sent over and some not - expect posts on here and freecycle when that happens! -
Advice on shipping house move items cheaply
tracymcdavis replied to tracymcdavis's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Thanks. I did contact a few removal firms but the cheapest quote I got was ?900 which is completely out of our league. I realise I was naive now but was expecting a couple of ?100! -
An American colleague of mine was made redundant earlier this year and had to leave the UK. She's moved back to the US and she has now decided to stay there. I have been storing the stuff from her house, as she originally thought she would be coming back to the UK. Now we want to get her stuff shipped across to her as economically as possible - but it's not something I know much about (to say the least!). Does anybody have any advice on good, cheap ways to do this? It's general household move stuff - about 30 boxes of books, clothes, pictures etc (although I imagine we will do some pruning of that before sending especially if it effects the cost). Timing is not an issue at all. Thanks!

Hi. I run one of the Brownies units in East Dulwich (at St Anthony's school) and I have had young DoE volunteers before and would be happy to consider your daughter. If it's of interest please PM me and we can have a chat (FYI - from Sunday, I'm going away for 10 days so may not be able to answer messages quickly).

All SE London's Wetherspoons... Ranked
tracymcdavis replied to The Dulwich Raider's topic in The Lounge
The Prince of Wales always has weird connotations for me - I grew up in Cardiff when it was the infamous porn cinema. The place your mum would hate walking in front of and would pull you along in case anyone in a mac would appear. Having now been in the pub - that cinema must have been gigantic! -
I'd be keen to join in. I've just had a declutter and have a big bag of things that deserve a home - some, I'm ashamed to say, never even worn. I've now started following @vivafashionista and the Dec 1 date looks good if its local?

Is there a Sewing club around?
tracymcdavis replied to JennaAZ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jenna If nobody else comes forward, I would take them off your hands for my Brownies / Girl Guides groups as we often do sewing related crafts. However, it depends where you are as I have no transport. I'm in Peckham / Camberwell side. Tracy -

I'll also add my recommendation for Polly. She's been helping us at our house in Peckham for over 5 years now. She's reliable, flexible when we need to change and efficient. She also does my ironing as I HATE ironing! More than happy to speak by PM or phone if you want to make sure I'm a real person/customer!

Looking for volunteering opportunities
tracymcdavis replied to theron's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
Have you thought about Girl Guiding or Scouting? I volunteer with a local Brownies group and a local Girl Guides group and find it very rewarding. There are a number of groups around Dulwich which always could do with volunteers. PM me if you'd like to know more. -
Just seen this on the BBC - looks like they may have a suspect for at least some of the killings outside of London. But not yet clear if all killings around the UK are same person of course - heaven forbid there is more than one of these monsters out there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-42576471
