former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Sue, The link ed_pete provided states clearly anyone can join. But most people wont bother using theier services unless they regulalrly visit the area so quite naturally limited offer. Also suspect aimed at the many employees who would find it tricky to prove their work address. They only ask for proof of home address. eBooks. I've asked about this a number of times and each time been told Southwark are waiting to see how things progress for libraries. I've pinged the head of libaries another request to know the very latest stance. Hi ed_pete, Many thanks. -

I'm not sure many people from the Dulwich area would wish to send kids all the way to Camberwell or Peckham for secondary school. I wasnt suggesting local children go to Rotherhithe. I was highlighting that of the 10 Form Entry secondary school shortfall 4 are being relieved by a new school in Rotherhithe. I believe we need another secondary school in our area as well as 235 additional Primary school places by 2016. ED Harris Primary school will provide 60 places, Judith Kerr 50 places, but that still even with the odd school expansion leaves us a serious shortfall. A further ED Primary school. -

Hi Mrs.Lotte, Yes we've seen the East Dulwich Harris Boys Academy open locally which provides 150 boys places per year. But the shortfall is that we need even more local places. -

Hi GinaG3, They'd need convincing. But a number of support groups exist: http://www.home-education.biz/support/Organisations/ You might want ot check with the Judith Kerr Primary school if they have places: http://www.jkps.org.uk/contact-us/ -

Hi workingmum, The councils view is children going to seocndary school can travel much further. So they have predicted 10 forms of entry shortfall. A new 4 form entry secondary school has been approved. This appears to leave a 6 form entry of children needing more capacity. After creating sufficient primary school places we'll be tunring to seocndary school places. -

Hi wtj, Are you talking about the residential wheelie bins or the big business Eurobins? -
The plans wi see 9 terminating platforms reduced to 6 and throu platforms increased from 6 to 9. Current platforms 1&2 will be abandoned. The plans will not involve going back to the stations high of 21 platforms.

It was originally programmed to take a year to complete the works and reopen July 2012. Well in time for the East London Line phase 2. Glad it's happening but the design and usability seems poor. The new walkways wont add much capacity. Lots of tight corners that could have been designed out. Network Rail and TfL dont have a great record maintaining lifts. So adding three and not creating using slopes instead of two of them is a shame. The controlled barriers should make the rail service safer for the whole area.

Hi flower, Camberwell Cemetery - Officers and their contractors have stated the 12 trees are diseased. I've alsready a query with them to expand on that and fully explain the details. Hi fazer71, Those roads are outside East Dulwich ward. The north Scylla Road side of Nunhead Lane is in "The Lane" ward. The councillors for that ward are: [email protected]@[email protected] I'd suggest you email them about this. -

Hi furley-yap, Yes, the Juidth Kerr School will be created with its first admissions which includs your family from the sound of your posts in Sept 2013 on Half Moon Lane close to the SE24/SE21/22 border. Hi buggie, Yes, the Judith Kerr school opens this Sept, a Harris one Sept 2014 and hopefully a 3rd Sept 2015. The primary school place crisis is expected to reach its full crisis Sept 2016. So we still have primary places to provide. But yes, we need ot start thinking about secndary places. -

Hi buggie, Southwark had a relatively low level of first choice success across the whole borough. Those families that didnt any of the 6 schools they put down - it can;t feel much like a choice the 4th, 5th of 6th choice - half were from SEE but areas around Peckham Rye Park and near the Harvester pub. Relatively few from the core SE22 area. So you're right that in a perfect world a new school would be built around the HArvester pub area and ED Harris Girls School. Sadly their not as easy to make happen as you need ot find a site and have a realsitic timescale to open them. The Harvester area only has the Harvest as a potential site but that's right nextot two very busy roads with all the noise and pollution issues that raises. The ED Harris Girls SChool has the spare land but as it Metropolitican Open Land the whole school makes for a potentially long planning process and possible as a second Harris ED primary school with more time probably opening Sept 2015. This leaves the Dulwich Hopsital site. Hence the consideration of not having distance based, after all the other factors such as supporting paretns etc, fro mthe front door but instead nodal points based on where the most extremet shortage is. Hope that makes sense Hi furley-yap, I suspect we're talking about different schools. No admissions has been done for this school. Or are you talking about thE Judith Kerr schools which is different school to this one being proposed? -
As ward councillors Cllr Rosie Shimell and myself have asked for this decision to be 'call-in' and be decided by a planning committee of councillors IF officers are minded to recommend persmission be granted - which I'm told they are. I'll hear later this week if this has been successful and then later in June it would probably be heard by a planning committee subcommittee. And just to retierate whether you are for or against this scheme tell the planning officers ASAP. Whether for or against it's worth asking planning officers to ensure a Travel Plan is required or as they call it conditioned. Hours of operation. Waste management. Cycle parking. Noise insulation. Aesthetics. NB. The pastor has invited me to a service. I'll probably visit but not attend a service.

Tonight steering group met to discuss admissions criteria. An interesting suggestion about making it a lottery - but I don't think the pan London admissions software could cope with that. Inconclusive discussion about using nodal points. General agreement that it would help - which was great considering most parents present live close to the hospital site - but we all felt we needed more data to really zero in on specifics. -

For those that travel past or via Denmark Hill you will probably have noticed all the bushes and tress have been cutback in one section uncovering a huge litter dump. Although not in my ward I've contact one of the local ocuncillors there to try and resolve. -
Hi Toptree, Officers agreed it would be actively full-time. I doubt but could ask if you'd like whether volunteers could operate it outside of regular hours?

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The Judith Kerr bilingual Primary School announced it site yesterday - the old KCL facility 62-68 Half Moon Lane. Good to have this out in the public domain at last. I'm particularly pleased as I proposed this site to them over a year now. It far enough into Southwark to maximise Southwark residents on distance. Hope this site works out for lots of people who have applied. It will hopefully see extra movement in waiting lists in the area. -

Hi Ryekids, Just announced yesterday - 62-68 Half Moon Lane the old KCL facility. I'm particularly chuffed with this as the site was my suggestion. It's far enough into Southwark that most children will e Southwark residents. Hope this answers your question. -

Blimey DJKQ, A bunch of locals make great use of coalition legislation and you poo poo it. I genuinely think being a freehouse will make a big difference. So personally, after lot of thought, have bought some shares. -

Hi number 2, I doubt many people are an inconsiderate as you've suggested but I'm sure some are - whether deliberately or not realising how it all works. I'll ask officers if they can obtain the pupil names and addresses for private schools to cross refer them. I doubt it but worth asking. Will let you know how I get on.
