Campaign for Extension to ED Train Service?

I think this idea is well worth exploring - I'll ask Railfuture experts who can explain what would be required. -
My understanding is that the hostel occupants are people claiming asylum after arriving at Gatwick airport. Odd place to have a hostel supporting Gatwick Airport but the Home Office several years ago was clear it was the only option. Chuffed, but not surprised, to see such generosity from East Dulwich residents. I'll have a root around our attic.

Hi stacey-lyn, edhistory, We have seen a decrease in the space left for parking, post bus lane operation, due to the two new crossings. But as part of that a complete review of all parking restrictions was undertaken and more parking space recovered by reducing parking restrictions on side roads at their junctions with Lordship Lane. From memory 12 spaces remved and 14 added. I've also had agreement that the parking on Whateley Road outside Bells is relaxed so people can legitmately park there. Overall we have more legal parking in East Dulwich. -

Hi kamath, Not sure what you mean? Hi Renata, I thought children will going forward be assessed against stages before 11yo. Year 2 KS2 teachers will assess work. Will be interesting to see if schools make the oversall data freely available rather than relying upon 7 years of faith from families. -
20 MPH Limit Lordship Lane
James Barber replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi rahrahrah, Because the part of Lordship Lane proposed is wholly East Dulwich ward. Heber Road junction is hald East Dulwich ward and half Village ward and Village ward councillors don't want 20mph on the part of Melbourne Grove we share with them let alone the part of Lordship Lane we share. But importantly the area proposed is a shopping high street with lots of people crossing. -

Hi Fazer71, Since I've been a councillor May 2006 we now have fractionally more parking around Lordsihp Lane than we did before. Hi UncleBen, I regularly sign post people how to contact Southwark Council. Council officials tell me they get more queries from East Dulwich than other areas as result of the forum not despite the forum. To such a degree that the council now employs a press person to interact with such forums. -

Hi Fazer71, What bit/s of the park do you think should be tarmaced over? Colyton Road and Homestall Road have no parking restrictions and immediately abutt Peckham Rye Park. Many park there and walk through the park. I can't imagine that people wanting to go to a park decide driving to Peckham Rye and parking there is so painful that they'll drive past a couple of dozen other similar parks to trave lto Bluewater. -
Child hit by car (she's fine), Lordship lane with upland
James Barber replied to lotita's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The island was placed there because people cross the road there and 2005-2011 8 crashes have occurred involving 10 people being injured - 6 slightly, 4 seriously - mostly car occupants in vehicles turning or crasihng into turning vehicles. Using DfT figures this will have cost our society ?178,160 per serious injury alone. It will be August 2013 before we have all the 2012 crash data made public to compare the crash rates but probably need several years for a full comparison of before and after the island. The site has a speed limit of 30mph. Southwark Council traffic counts can be seen: http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/index.jsp?tooltip=yes September 2012 south bound from point between Friern Road and Barry Road on Lordship Lane - so probably slowing to the lights or pulling away from the lights average speed 24.8mph north and 26.1mph southbound but 85th percentile speeds were 30.9mph and 31.3mph respectively. BUT this means that 15% were going faster than these speeds in a 30mph area. Clearly we have a speeding problem that needs to be addressed and that is currently costing society a great deal of money in crashes and the consequences - let alone all the pain and suffering. -

Hi fazer71, But more parking would mean less park. How else would you provide parking? France has 5 x the land mass with the same population. They also don't have suburbs in the same way or degree we have. So of course they have more space for car parking. You'll find that in Paris they're closing the equivalent of the Embankbent dual carriage way for cycle routes. So not clear great comparisons with our area. -

Hi Maria Mac, I'm sorry to hear you and a number of other people felt stung. Yes, parking partly on the pavement is a parking offence zealously enforced due to the safety nature. Idea is it causes people have to walk around such parks cars into the road highway, blocks prams, blind people wont expect it. Also the issue of driving onto and of off the pavement. But clearly these issues don't arise there. But placing parking notices on posts would be unsightly in a park, repeating the highway code, and cost parks budget money. But it must feel horribly unfair. What I will ask is if in such circumstances a first offence could lead to a warning. Most people would then understand the rule and not repeat the parking offence. I hope this all makes sense. I'll also ask the parks service whether discrete double yellow lines down one side of Strakers Road is possible. I'll also PM you. -
Agree henryb. The waste recycling process wont mind some ant protein. The waste centre has a public information role so EastDulwichSE22 you can arrange to visit if you so wish.

Hi Cyclemonkey, Can you email me your full address and I'll try and get the lights changed to help. Probably a shield or change the lattern direction - my email is [email protected] Hi bloonoo, Yes, they've been bothering me as well and I reported the issues earlier this week. I suspect it will take some time and that they'll want to use traffic lights while they re paint the marking. Hi DulwichBorn&Bred, How awful. Looking at Crashmaps.co.uk, which hasn't yet had 2012 data, that locations has had slightly more than one minor crash every year. I've asked for a traffic collission report to come to the Dulwich Community Council explaining where crashes are happening locally and ehat is being done to address them. Speed cameras are decided by the London Speed Partnership and are concentrated where more crashes and more serious crahses occur on pan London basis. I've in the past proposed that we devolved this into having a Southwark Camera Partnership but failed dismally in getting this to happen. The Council has recently decided to stop installing active speed signs despite evidence they reduce speeds. Even if the council wanted to install a Pelican crossing the waiting list is over a year long. I'd suggest a zebra crossing. The mere presence of one encourages drivers to slow down speeds to sensible levels. It doesnt require traffic lights so can be done more quickly. The speediest way to make this happen would be for you to apply for Cleaner, GReener, Safer funding. The next round will be around Oct/Nov later this year for decision probably late May for implimentation of approved project April 2014 to Mar 2015. -
New out of town shop on East Dulwich Road
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Louisa, Out of town was suggesting that a new retail unit risks taking business away from Lordship Lane to the detriment of Lordship Lane and the residents nearby to the new unit. Hi LondonMix, No, my only involvement was to support a planning application for a nursery. I had no part in creating or encouraging it but formally support it and the appeal - which we won. -

We took the bikes to Denmark Hill station - train to Clapham junction then train to Guildford. Cycled along off road cycle path (Downs Link) and then train back from Christ's Church Hopsital station via Clapham Junction to Denmark Hill. Next time we're planning to finish the Downs Link from Christ's Church Hopsital stationto Shoreham on Sea. Good day cycling for 9 year old. At 7 they could have done this and if 4 year old on a tag along they would probably be fine.

Lordship Lane Post Office closure threat/strike action
James Barber replied to Twirly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Twirly, Callie, I think you're refering to local sub post offices. Usually very small operations. The franchised mode we're talking about for East dulwich would be a full post office and not close for lunch times. I'd expect it to have longer opening times than the current crown post office. Hi Uncleben, I didnt say that. I'm talking to local businesses about issues that affect them. A cluster have a major anti social problem we need to resolve. But yes, I do prioritise and the crown post office we have nearly two years time.
