  1. The "unused scrubland" is a very well used area of astroturf. The maintenance of the astroturf was the football clubs as part of being able to lease it for so many years. The Labour councils recommendation to approve is a sell out. They have ample grounds to recommend refusal. The club currently have grounds. Those grounds could be enhanced. The council should proceed with the compulsory Purchase Order they stetted but stopped. The area can't afford to lose any open space. WE all know that another salmi tactic of moving the ground further onto Greendale. 1st to allow a Sainsburys Superstore. 2nd this one to facilitate a development bringing huge profits to off shore property developers.
  2. The application has just been approved by Southwark Council Planning Sub Committee A. Local Cllr Charlie Smith in his evidence as a ward Councillor shared the latest Man Utd vs. Southampton football result update - sad that he didn't take this process or the 97 objections seriously.
  3. Hi Spartacus, Rye Lane is tricky. A number of years ago circa 2008 Lib Dem led council installed rising bollards to restrict Rye Lane to buses and service vehicles. WE had several years supply of replacement bollards as per the suppliers advice. All th replacement bollards were used up within a fortnight. These days I would have thought CCTV enforcement sufficient to only allow buses. I don't think pedestrianisation will ensure a fully active Rye Lane or ultimately be safe. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.
  4. Alleyn's could always offer to accept a legal agreement (S106) that x% more than currently who live and remain living within walking distance of the school. Say 1km. It wouldn't guarantee they walk to school but it would significantly increase the chance they walk to school. A two form entry primary school is considered better to run by the educationalists I've spoken to over the years. The issue is people deriving the extra kids to school. The school could propose something that resolves this. If it doesn't then it really isn't trying to address the main issues of objectors.
  5. It has been disappointing that Southwark Council have not opened some of the current car parking up for people trying to social distance while walking along Lordship Lane. We also know air pollution makes COIVD19 more impactful on victims - so keeping vehicles away from people helps. I personally have also had this problem while walking along Melbourne Grove and Derwent Grove - having to walk in the road while cars seem to be speeding very closely by. This feels worse than before this global crisis. I would not propose removing parking along these residential roads, instead stop them being through routes for vehicles so people are safe to walk along them. Making Melbourne Grove (North), Derwent Grove and Elsie Road no longer through routes for cars would deter significant rat running from people avoiding main roads to get through south Southwark. Much of this will evaporate - much as when the M25 was opened lots of extra new car journeys occurred. Much of this rat running currently goes along Lordship Lane-Melbourne Grove-Dog Kennel Hill. The other route is along East Dulwich Grove-Melbourne Grove-Dog Kennel Hill. Making these harder will help the area generally. The increased congestion charge and time of operating will also help. For these reasons I hope these changes are made swiftly at least until we're out of the current health crisis. This is an emergency and I'm astounded at how slow Southwark Council have been to act beyond mere words, press releases and dare I say political questionnaires.
  6. North Cross Road market had a 6 day a week legal arrangement but market stalls were only interested in attending on Saturdays. The market has a number of very antisocial practices and council policies - first come for best pitches so people noisily setting up at 5am or earlier. Part of installing the electric sockets via monies Councillors allocated (it cost a lot) was to invest in the market but also to change the practices to dramatically reduce that anti scoria design. This included the market becoming Saturday only legally to coincide with the practices. This meant pitches on Fridays that were never used didn't see parking ticket being issued to residents for example. I'k sure we would all want residents to agree and support any such changes and that a genuine demand exists.
  7. Dear Members " It was agreed at a Trustees meeting last night that the gardens should re-open in line with the Governments adjustment to the lock down regulations. As with all current advice we ask you to observe social distancing at all times within the gardens both for yourselves and your children. I took a quick look in the gardens yesterday and they have enjoyed the down time! Spring plants such as elderflower and bluebells have been able to spread and grass is growing back on some of the pathways. Best wishes "
  8. Hi Meg64, Finally a response today: Date: 19 April 2020 at 14:41:43 BST To: Subject: West Peckham CPZ Thank you for your recent email concerning the commencement of enforcement in the new West Peckham Controlled Parking Zone. I note your comments however at present we are not enforcing any permit or pay and display bays throughout the borough whilst the Government lockdown is in place. We will notify via our parking websites when enforcement resumes/commences and up until that point those residents of the new CPZ will not be obliged to require a permit to park in these bays. If you would like to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me by email. Yours sincerely Mark Sprackling Representations and Appeals Officer Regulatory Services Environment and Leisure Southwark Council Tooley Street Doesn't consider what will happen if the lockdown is lifted for most but not all residents. But let's cross that bridge then i guess. Hope it reassures you.
  9. Unlikely that annoying light aircraft is a hobbyist as would be non essential travel to the airfield and flying. So most likely one of the Met Police spy planes - I kid you not - https://www.itv.com/news/london/2014-07-23/mysterious-spyplane-circling-the-skies-could-be-eavesdropping-on-mobile-phone-calls/
  10. They could be casing your house to see if the lights going on from real occupiers. Classic burglary technique. Usually they'll say they're looking for fake named person. Now they can come up with this excuse. If this was genuine they wouldn't come round at 10.30pm. Late night knocking. One time it happened to us. We ignored it.Next thing two chaps had kicked the front door in and I had to chase them away.
  11. Hi TheCat, Most organisations have commercial waste contracts. I suspect many are cancelled to minimise costs for those organisations. Schools etc are charged by most councils for their rubbish collections. So again I'd expect most schools to cancel their waste contracts while they're closed to conserve their cash and redirect some to iPads and the likes for kids without such devices for home schooling.
  12. It would be straightforward to ask their phone provider to divert number/s.
  13. Currently Southwark council is still collecting garden waste. It might get disrupted by 1 or 2 days depending on crew sickness. Brown garden bags can still be ordered online here - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/wasteservices/gardenwastebags Happy gardening.
  14. Sad that some dog owners are selfish. We will see a bag log dog poo issues because Southwark Council is cutting back service to the core while COVID19 is going on. Street cleaning "Scheduled cleaning of residential roads will not take place whilst the current restrictions on leaving home are in place. We'll have the ability to respond to the need for urgent sweeping requirements and fly-tip removal on residential roads should the need arise. Urgent street cleaning requests and fly-tip reports can be made" via this online form - https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/beta/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1541&np=1
  15. Public Health England has issued advice limiting attendees at funerals - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-advice-for-safe-funerals-after-discussions-with-faith-leaders While sympathising with people used to using cemeteries for leisure activities it would seem thoughtless to tell loved ones they can not attend a funeral and those that attend see others using cemeteries for leisure. Welsh Govt candidly stated worst case large scales burials may be required. Perhaps another reason to make cemeteries invitation only for a period of time - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-51948055 Appalling all round.
  16. How terribly sad. Glad King's enabled your sister to be there. What a terrible dilemma for your sister self isolating. The UK govt is saying 7 days. The WHO has been giving advice to self isolate for 14 days. So far I would suggest the WHO has a better grasp than the UK govt. WHO state the incubation period is 1-14 days with median around the 5 day mark - https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses Telling people 7 days suggests a herd immunity slant knowing that some infections will occur from people incubating after 7 days but I'm not a medic or epidemiologist. 14 days 99th percentile incubation will have occurred - 101/10000 will occur after 14 days: Little more background -https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/03/200310164744.htm simplified version of this - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwjQnLOfvc_oAhXHNcAKHb7zAFQQFjAAegQIAxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fannals.org%2Faim%2Ffullarticle%2F2762808%2Fincubation-period-coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-from-publicly-reported&usg=AOvVaw3pV5tr3elTd-aZCUJxFqjT
  17. This is clearly bonkers. 4 weeks waring period is little use if you have to self isolate for 12 weeks to minimise risk to yourself or other household members lives. This will be raised today with the council Chief Executive and Council Leader by Councillor Anood Al-Samerai (Lib dem cllr group leader). This policy raises generic issues across the borough.
  18. Hi caro caro, This seems a useful compilation of planned government support - https://transmitstartups.co.uk/transmit-news/covid/ look at www.gov.uk/business Call govt helpline 0300 456 3565
  19. Worth trying: BBC Bitesize - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize BT - https://www.bt.com/skillsfortomorrow/parents/learning-at-home.html
  20. Hi Bestbeast, Sounds like a converted victorian house - so zero noise insulation between the floors hence the extreme problem. Great advice from Ole. Noise diary so you can collect proof of severity of the problem. Also worth seeking legal advice. I'd start here - https://www.lease-advice.org/faq/how-can-a-leaseholder-enforce-the-covenants-in-the-lease-against-another-leaseholder/
  21. Southwark council is the only council in the country, and legal advice given in the lords suggests illegally, to make redundancy payments to Councillors holding Special Responsibilities when they choose to stand down from those positions or lose at an election. So broadly you're correct. But Southwark is extraordinarily uniquely generous to some Councillors. Peckhampam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I really do not understand the bash the council > brigade. I?m not talking about the rights or > wrongs of implementing the CPZ, I?m talking about > comments like the council is greedy and can?t help > themselves. Where do you think the money is going > ? 22. Hi ddboy, AS UK is not avidly testing we don't know the exact percentage but those under 50 yo 2% Imperial College have said will need hospital treatment and overall mortality rate is believe to be around 1% - still humongous. Those over 70 mortality rate of those infected is much higher as Imperial But of course 2% of a huge population would flood and overwhelm any health system. UK government should be sharing forecasts based on current behaviours daily to drive home the message. And perhaps it should be physical distancing rather than social distancing which really hasn't been an effective message.
  23. Great news Renata - but horse will have truly bolted with lots of avoidable contacts. Southwark Council needs to be on top its game despite central government appearing to lack focus.
  24. Hi GardenPlaners, You've highlighted council stupidity. Website was saying earlier today libraries are open when they've been closed. Disaster planning will improve as the council gets its act together. Not helped by central government asking people nicely rather than imposing clear unambiguous instructions backed by law.
  25. Hi malibu, The chief scientist said to still exercise but only while still social distancing. Council leader tweeted - Those playgrounds and spaces in @lb_southwark parks which can be locked will be locked and not re-opened after tonight. Park cafes will also be closed completely. STAY HOME unless it?s absolutely necessary to go out. Your choice could be the difference between life & death. He probably should have stated lockable parks are locked shut until further notice. It does not help that central government are failing to lock London down as avoidable deaths are likely when hospitals overflow from contacts from this weekend and last week come home to roost.
