  1. It is a universal problem of children being driven to school - but especially pronounced when the entry requirements for local provide schools are not based on distance from the school. Alleyns is a sub-regional school. Admissions to the Junior school near 100% result in pupils gaining admission to the secondary school - so super attractive to some families from some, for London, significant distances away to get into the Junior School and drive pupils until old enough to use the coach service. For a number of years I've suggested to Southwark Council Development/Planning teams that a limit of further private school development via a Supplementary Planning Guide is required.
  2. When my lot ran the council we ensured such contentious planning application were heard in the local area by local councillor. I can honestly say the scheme proposed and approved by a the current Labour council and it appears supported by local Labour councillors would never have been approved y Lib Dem local councillors. ON so many levels it is the wrong design for the wrong location. We used to have local democracy for making such decision. This was stopped early on when Labour re took control of Southwark Council.
  3. Hi gerry, and other Bassanno residents. Please accept my apologies for my part in this. As one of the then Councillors for East Dulwich ward I proposed council housing for these two garages sites. I expected such housing to conform to the Southwark Plan which restricts density, heights, etc and respects our area as suburban. Clearly the current council administration and more recently elected Councillors are happy with the areas suburban character not being respected. Hence the travesty of these approved schemes. Sorry.
  4. Southwark plants tree Jan-March the ideal tree planting months. IF you email Renata I'm sure she'll be able to check this location is on the tree planting list.
  5. Agree with malumbu and Lemming. Did the same last Autumn across my home. Saving electricity, even though all renewable still good to reduce, saving money. Pay back I calculated at less than a year. Better lighting all round.
  6. You might wish to consider parking across your own drive way to ensure you have access to your vehicle. i don't know which road but you could ask for double yellow lines but this would take some time to happen. If you wish to request such lines email [email protected] The Police will rarely act with urgency of drives being blocked - they may make an exception in your case but I doubt you'd want the added stress.
  7. The rubber tubes across local roads measure traffic flow, direction and speeds. The CCTV records car number plates. when all the cameras data is compared they can tell how many cars take which route through the area. Such detailed origination and destination surveys are super helpful to answer questions around what ifs and what changed since measures have been installed. The cameras are not real time.
  8. I hope the victim makes a full recovery. This violence is unusual, especially in our area. Police stats for Good Green ward where this happened can be found here - https://www.met.police.uk/sd/stats-and-data/met/crime-data-dashboard/ also see attached. In summary 144 reported crimes per thousand population. Goose Green ward has the 4th lowest reported crime rate in Southwark out of 23 wards for the period August 2019 to July 2019.
  9. It's entirely in the gift of local councillors to make a fuss and get enforcement officers to enforce, or not.
  10. From memory Marks & Spencer had to get a Delivery Management Plan agreed with Southwark Council; - which was intended to stop deliveries routed via Melbourne Grove and Chesterfield Grove. I've tried searching for this but the councils planning portal seems to have made inaccessible older planning applications.
  11. East Dulwich Health Centre for me. Clear what is and where it is.
  12. I would really recommend people join HACAN if aircraft noise bothers them - https://hacan.org.uk/
  13. Good luck finding more witnesses. Really shouldn't need to do this yourselves but hats off to you guys. Best wishes.
  14. The main 'chateau' entrance building is remaining and will be an integral part of the school. The wings will be demolished. Talking to the one of the past NHS architects who drew up plans 10 years ago. The original hospital was constructed under the Poor Law and built to a low standard such as one brick thick. The cost to renovate those wings would be astronomic. Several previous attempts have been made previously to have it listed 'Save the onion domes' being one of them. Listing was refused - https://www.dulwichsociety.com/journal-archive/91-summer-2012/723-dulwich-hospital
  15. Hi Marmora, You can always escalate and make a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman - https://www.lgo.org.uk/ Ordered our brown wheelie bin many weeks ago and still nothing - but I have sticker! If true and relatively few taking up the new Garden Tax then many bins will be removed and presumably destroyed or sold on to possibly other councils. Government review is likely to say garden waste should be collected for free. So in roughly 2-4 years time we'll all be ordering new free brown wheelie bins from Southwark Council to replace the ones surrendered and disposed of. This will cost a large fortune. The council will complain about the government - rather than admitting how short sighted they've been.
  16. Obvious would be "East Dulwich Health Centre" but as they've decided to limit the number of letters and spaces to 25 this won't be allowed. Dulwich Health Centre would be too similar to Dulwich Medical Centre and cause confusion.
  17. Hi SUT, Noise from over flying aircraft has increased significantly. Far more flights into and out of Heathrow and City Airport than 30 years ago. Night flight regime should be stopped. GPS controlled flight paths mean precise routes making those underneath suffer from far more noise intrusion. The Heathrow Action Campaign Against Noise has lots of sensible suggestions to reduce this noise and have studied the impact of noise from Heathrow. It costs our society far more in detrimental noise impacts than Heathrow generates for example. Third runway at Heathrow will compound things further.
  18. London Mayor Sadiq Khan promised a fares freeze during the 2016 London elections. So to reduce costs to pay for this election promise bus frequencies were cut last summer. Now bus routes are being cut, merged and re routed. Effectively the majority in London unwittingly voted for these cuts.
  19. That's really good to know. Thank you Help-Me-Boab.
  20. How awful. Worth hardening your home now as burglars sometimes revisit once items are estimated to have been replaced. Also greater propensity for them ostrich at neighbours as they know the layout of typical home and burglars consider neighbouring properties to have similar items. So please do tell neighbours to alert them. The police used ot do this but they're not reliable at this. also worth people going through this home security survey put together by retired crime prevention police officer. Takes five minutes but gives really good advice about home security -https://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/home-security-assessment/468/home-security-survey--diy/
  21. Hi 1921, The last time I was involved as an East Dulwich Councillor DMC agreed an action plan with NHS England and it was tracked through to successful completion. If it casques you continuing problems please complaint to NHS England.
  22. The proposals could clearly be more discrete and achieve the same ends. Less iron work would also save the operator some money. You can object for reasons of aesthetics and our of proportion to the property. I would always counsel where possible to make a suggestion of practical compromise.
  23. If you have complaint about your GP surgery make a complaint to them. If for whatever reason you don't feel able ot complaint directly with your GP surgery then email complaints or indeed compliments to - [email protected] or call them on 0300 311 22 33 during normal office hours.
