  1. I say again - Southwark Council/Labour have zero strategic contact with the Harris Federation. I've spoken to Harris and they'd welcome such meetings. They only started met Haberdasher's after I organsied a meeting as an opposition councillor about a possible new school. So landsberger I disagree. Southwark Council is responsible for education but after the last two governments has to excercise this over academies using soft skills. But if you don't meet, and Renata please don't confuse you popping nito the harris Girls school as strstegic meeting, to talk about strategic issues you don't get to use any soft skills to influence people. And the new policy of this school isn't good for our area in my opinion. Has anyone reviwed it against the government code - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/389388/School_Admissions_Code_2014_-_19_Dec.pdf If it breaches this code we can appeal to the Schools Adjudicator by 30 June.
  2. These look fun - been looking for one myself - http://pod-space.co.uk/our-pods/ I've not checked prices though.
  3. Thanks katgod. Just ordered a spray. fingers crossed it works.
  4. Southwark has experience via its contractor Quadron. I've asked the question lets hear back what officers understand. Steam is energy intesive but not directly carcinogenic - yes long-term it depends on how the energy is generated.
  5. Hi henryb, That was a really ijntersting letter. Theb est bit for me: " So here is our proposed alternative: a technique called weed steaming, based on an old method of killing weeds with simple hot water. A London-based company called Weedingtech offers a weed steaming product called Foamstream, which uses no harmful chemicals and is already being used by water companies and councils. In London, the boroughs of Southwark and Kensington & Chelsea are using Foamstream in parks using the contractor Quadron Services. " I will ask the Director of the department about this and ask Cllr Rosie Shimell the Lib Dem opposition spoeksperson on Environment to explore this.
  6. hi edhistory, 1. No. While the plate with parking restrictions isn't present they're parking LEGALLY. 2. Correct. it is covered in grasffiti and appears abandoned. We know from the broken windows theory that this will be increasing the risk of anti social and cirminal behaviour. 3. No. local politican arranges for the missing sign - that someone has illegally removed - to be replaced. 4. No. I'm hoping the owner will move their van so it will be parking legally which is I why I've advertised the fact. Officers have said that although it may not be road worthy it isn't a danger to others. We have a local problem of graffiti on vans. It has nearly put two small local businesses that Im directly aware of out of business. Boy, John, have you got out of bed the wrong sidfe today ;o)
  7. hi edhistory, it would never be cheap for professional contractors to come and do a little job on a residential garden. So I would always counsel people don't let their gardens get to that state. Also a hugely cut back hedge can look really unsightly with no leave left facing he street. Southwark have to cover their costs of organising this, recovering payment, etc.
  8. So if we think this stuff isn't ideal - what is the alternative that we're proposing?
  9. Painful. The van is MoT'd and taxed until next year. It isn't considered a danger to others. The parking bay it is parked in the parking restriction sign has been removed. So it can;t be ticketed. A new parking restrictions sign/plate will shortly be installed and it will start collecting tickets. Despite the van being covered in graffiti little the council can do apart from give it tickets and eventually remove. Clearly someone has removed the parking restrictions sign delaying this taking place. Fortunately the soon expected parking tickets will quickly more than cover the cost to council tax payers. Phew!
  10. More road closures for community parties: Sunday 7 June Winterbrook road (Play Street) 3-6pm. Fab any other streets interested in doing this get in touch. Saturday 13 June Carver Road 9am-9pm Copleston Road 11am-6pm Sunday 14 June Derwent Grove 1-6pm FABULOUS. Hope weather is great for all these street parties + 1 Play Street.
  11. The owners representative seems much less clear on that now. Lets get it tidied up and see where we are.
  12. Hi Bodsier, Councillors are elected to the whoel council but elected by people in a ward. We clearly focus on our respective wards but we are councillors for the whole borough. So I get casework for areas other than East Dulwich ward and I'm sure vice versa.
  13. Hi wonderroman, If you email [email protected] with precise details. Officers will then inspect, if a problem they'll write to the property owner giving them two weeks to fix, if they don't the council organises the works to be done and charge the residents. The council contractors are not cheap! I've had a partially sited person at one of my surgeries who collided with such overhanging bushes, he was taken to hospital and lost some of the little remaining sight he had in one of his eyes. So rare type of incident and the home owner were fortunate he didn't connect with one of those no win no fee lawyers. hi first Mate, I should be able to give an update later this week.
  14. HI Robbin, I didn't, I needed to tweak my post slightly and was short of time. I've contacted, and they've agreed in principle, the person who owns this sites representative for volunteers to tidy up the front. But have yet to agree the details. One idea is to see it perhaps we could get the street artists project to help with this which could be amazing.
  15. Hi robbin, Indeed this is an arid debate. When the motion at full council was made that brought this restriction in the Dulwich councillors were very clear that this risked social picnic etc style drinking could be interpreted to fall fowl of it. So Dulwich is exempt. And Community Wardens employed by Southwark as well as Police officers get to make this judgement.
  16. Hi first mate, Sadly those 1 hour bays taken from unrestricted parking are still proceeding.
  17. The problem is interpretation. Clearly many on this thrtead think the current drinking is a nuisance. From what's been decsribed I don't. To avoid this we stopped this offence applying to any part of East Dulwich, Village or College wards.
  18. Hi BNG, The changes have been a big improvement for me walking through the junction. No longer are we getting right turing cars jumping the red lights coming out of Townley road. But I suspect that illegal manuevre being removed has reduced the junction capacity a little. This morning two people were undertaking a traffic count. Hi howdood, Let me get a copy of the signal timings, share them and someone can double check from this thread. Hi Beaky, I'm pretty sure some of tyhe kids walking to school on their own are younger than 0/11 yo.
  19. This weekend lots of local streets are joining in and celebrating the Big Lunch with neighbours. it means these streets will be closed to through traffic. So please be patient and leave a little more time if your driving or cycling around this coming weekend. Saturday 6 June: Melbourne Grove (East Dulwich Grove-Jarvis Road) 3-6pm Sunday 7 June: Arnott Road 10am-7pm, Archduke Road 12-7pm, Ardbeg Road 10am-5pm, Bellenden Road 12-6pm, Colby Road 9am-9pm, Desenfans Road 11am-9pm, Elsie Road 12-9pm, Friern Road 10am-6pm, Goodrich Road 1-5pm, Gowlett Road 11.30am-7pm, Jasper Road 12-8pm, Keston Road 12-9pm, Nutbrook Street 11am-5pm, Stuart Road 11am-8pm, Tarbert Road 10am-7pm. If any of the organisers have any problems they need help with please let me know. Cllr Rosie Shimell and I have helped sort lots of problems with closing streets for community events over the years. My favourite when I led the closure of The Cut on a Friday and even managed to get Ken Livingstone on a cycle - admittedly one built for 7 people. I'm hoping one day some neighbours will agree to have something like the Park Street in Bristol waters slidehttp://www.lukejerram.com/projects/urban_slide but perhaps I;m getting a little ahead my self. Have fun everybody.
  20. Hi howdood, I posted what I'd found out a few weeks ago http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,336529,page=142 18 May 11:11 response I posted.
  21. Only 14 so far spider69. Most living on roads that would be affected and positive which surprises me. And yes SE22 goes to all local houses to North Cross Road and for some distance around. But Cllr Rosie Shimell and I will also be door knocking and leaving a letter asking for views. IF most people are interested or against we'll explain that to officers who THEN would go through a formal consultation. This would be reported to the Dulwich Community Council for a local decision. Then if recommended it would have formal consultation on the traffic order. spider69 it is likely you'll be sick of the subject before anything happens.
  22. All of Southwark is an Alcohol Control Area with the exception of East Dulwich, Village and college wards - Dulwich Community Council. The boundary for this is East Dulwich Road so the playground is IN the area of control. In that area the Police or Community Wardens can confiscate any alcohol if they think the drinkers are causing a nuisance. If people refuse to hand over sad alcohol they can be arrested / fined ?500. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200030/community_safety_and_enforcement/405/drugs_and_alcohol/3 But are these people causing a nuisance. I haven't seen anyone suggest they area. At least their children have proper play equipment there rather than a pub garden.
  23. Knocking on doors is a classic way to establish if someojne is in or not. People are most likely to be burgled in the first 6 months of moving in UNLESS they accelerate getting to know neighbours - ask them round for a drink, get involved with a Big Lunch event if it's happening on your street. And if you see something odd I would suggest the first port of call is the Police 101 no emergecny number. It operates 24/7 whereas the neighbourhood Police don't operate 24/7.
  24. The playgroud is in the majority of Southwark where 'street drinking' is illegal under a Southwark bye law. But is it causing a problem? If you think it is then report it to the Police via 101 the no emergency phone number. I would counsel that it is unlikely to be a problem worth the police time.
