  1. Good. Cllr Rosie Shimell and I had called-in this planning decision so if officers had been minded to grant permission it would have gone to a planning committee. Fingers crossed we wont have another 10+ year saga.
  2. Hi simonthebeaver, I commented more here - http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/ I hope it proves to be fabulous news. In about 6 months time Southwark Council will announce it latest pupil projections. I'm still very very nervous about Sotuhwark Council having forecasted a gap of 215-235 primary school places based on a birth rate and with no change to the birth rate or other factors is now forecasting a much lower gap allowing for news schools. I don't get where children have vanished between the two forecasts with no change in any factors. I have asked to meet the forecasters to really understand the detail that has caused this - I can then agree it's fabulous news. Hi Otta, I agree. They said they would. They have. Especially so after putting a lot of unfunded effort into this that they can now never recoup. The good news is we can focus on sorting out the Harris East Dulwich Primary School planning permission - stalled for a great many months with Southwark planning.
  3. Hi Sue, I think uncleglen was alluding to Tessa introducing new betting laws allowing addictive gaming machines, betting shops being allowed to open unless people proved they would cause harm - previously applicants had to prove they wouldn't cause harm. Huge expansion in betting shps resulted and still rising. Labour campaigning for the coalition to stop the betting shop bonanza having allowed Tessa to cause it. Same with drinking culture. Tessa changed the laws reversing the burden of proof from alcohol licnese applicants proving they wouldn't cause harm to objectors having to prove they would. Huge expansion in late and all night drinking estlablishments. 500% increase in alcohol ambulance calls and A&E admissions from alcohol - part of why A&E's across the country have a much higher workload than ever before. I'm sure Tessa and her team have done much casework well. But I would hope that's table stakes for any MP. The dramatic expansion in problems betting and drinking and addiction and all the harm this causes from laws she introduced means that England & Wales would have been a better place if she had not been an MP. Debate! Regards james.
  4. Very sad that a man died - http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/male-pedestrian-dies-after-being-hit-by-bus-outside-station-in-south-london-10142391.html Apprently hit by a car and then a bus. It will be some time before we hear all the facts.
  5. Hi Sue, That sounds very odd. We share the same udnerstanding. Let me ask and come back to you.
  6. The key will now be to turn this into the new secondary school actually having 19,550m2 of land to build on. Currently NHS Property have only release 17,000m2 via my Right to Contest which ...I'm now contesting!
  7. Sorry ITATM, I was answering your questions during lunch and should have read your request more thoroughly: How did this policy come into being with no one seemingly aware of it ? My reading is that there should be consultation which at a very early stage involves Community Councils . Did this happen ? I am not aware of the design manual being consulted upon at any community council. I came across it when an approved Cleaner, Greener, Safer bid for new cycle parking was refused by officers after approval by local councillors as the design manual didn't allow them - this would have been circa 2 years ago. It might have come through as an email to all councillors when an IDM is made. But we get 5-20 of these a day each linking to web pages with multi page documents - so we don't always spot the item. It might also have been in the forward plan. Given that DCC have already tried to have applications with this rule modified approved and failed ,what are the chances of it being reviewed ? And the time scale ? And how can we influence this process ? I think their is a good chance itwill be reviewied. We have lots of mechanisms to beaver away at changing it and I know of several Labour councillors who also agree the manual isn't fit for purpose. Hi Landberger, True but you'd expect that also of Village ward and College ward families and the stats don't bar this out. You've listed a number of schools but all the popular one's have admissions radii of around 1km. Harris Boys isn't that popular yet. I'm sure it will become really popular as in its first year it acheived stunning GCSE results. So big hole between all the schools you listed in SE22. Hi Lowlander, I'm not aware of this. I've just checked the rail timetable online and 3-5 trains per hour depending on when you measure. Not great. Really should be more.
  8. Hi ITATM, 2.5 years ago Southwark council issued the Southwark Street Design Manual. At DCC we agreed to ask the Director to attend the next DCC and explain why 2.0m was so critical. It is clearly an arbitary value being stuck to before the borough was made 20mph. Hopefully they'll have the sense to say it can be drastically reduced for 20mph streets. When my lot lead Southwark Council again we will scrap such sillyiness. Hi MarkT, Yes, it is a very silly design manual in a number of ways.
  9. Not surprising with all parties promoting residents and employees and patients to respond to the consultation and more people likely to benefit i.e. live/work/visit the Camberwell area.
  10. Hi chassle, I believe the hoardings are on the boundary for the developers land and ultimately will be returned back. The delays are with Southwark Planning vacillating between agreeing and disgreeing to some fine tuning of the approved scheme. I have suggested to the developer - as I did with the 265 Lordship Lane developer - that the hoardings be decorated with pictures from the nearest local school. For 265 Lordship Lane that was Heber School. For this site it would be Goose Green school - this assumes the school would be interested in taking part.
  11. Hi Savage, I have the data for SE22... 245 places appleid for. 115 obtained 1st preference 46.9% 39 2nd preference 15.9% 26 3rd pref 10.6% 22 4th pref 9.0% 10 5th pref 4.1% 7 6th pref 2.9% 10.6% were offered place the family had expressed no preference for. 26.5% not offered one of their 3 main preferences The Sothwark wide averages for these respecitvely 6.0% and 12.6% so SE22 families really suffering from not having enough secodnary school choices. really explempl;ifies why our campaign for a new East Dulwich secondary free school so important. It wont open until Sept 2016 but should transform loca choice and people getting admissinos to schools they want. Hope this is the data you wanted?
  12. Hi lpool, This is weird. Let me chase again. TfL provide the traffic lights to Sotuhwark for free. Which appears to mean they do what they want.
  13. Hi wpl, The Dulwich Society look at larger schemes and do include East Dulwich in their work. So I would suggest you do join the Dulwich Soceity and seek to join their Planning and Architecture sub committee - http://www.dulwichsociety.com/planning-and-architecture I'm sure they'd welcome more volunteers to increase the breadth of work they undertake. A neighbourhood plan would be great for the area as any future planning gain via Section 106 funds would have a much higher proportion spent in the area - 25% rather than 10% from memory. I have suggested to the Dulwich Scoeity that a neighbourhood Plan led by them would be a great start.
  14. Hi landsberger, Well we got something right - we initiated the secondary school campaign, fought successfully to change Southwark Councils utter opposition, attracted two great free school applicants and the school is proceeding on land we secured via the Right to Contest we submitted. Numbers. The birth rate is stable at all time high. Southwark forecast on that basis a big shortage which they had been accurate on. using the same numbers with no change in assumptions they're now saying we'll be over provided. I#m seeking to meet the person coming up with these forecasts because something smells fishy. I get where some children go but do you sense a mass exodus from the area or massive doubling in private school uptake? I don't.
  15. Hi ITATM, It goes from silly to ridiculous. WE had approved new dropped kerbs in Jan uary IF officers only implemented them with 1/2m double yellow lines each side. They've refused. They've tried to bounce us again last night into Southwark Council absurd positino of 2m double yellow lines and we've said no with one exception where the ward councillor doesn't think it will make a difference. The same street guide is against active speed signs, cycle hoop cycle parking, etc. Weird to see Labour councillors campaigning against this design guide when they introduced it two years ago. What a waste of public money all round.
  16. Hi DB&B, We'd need to be much more precise for someone to be sent out and sit in wait. OR do you know where they live? Please don't answer here but email me. 17. Hi jules, Apologies for delay. I have called you and started fighting for your Peckham aunt. Fingers crossed we can get some common sense on this. I've a number of similar items of casework for the same issue of council street properties with rotten windwos that they refuse to replace despite them not meeting any realm of decent home standard. 18. If someone is aggressive to you please do call the Police non emergency number (if it isn't an emergency) on 101.
  19. Hi FHRoad, It may require planning permission or more likely advertisement consent. You should look on the Southwark Council planning portal for this address and see if they've applied or not and if they did were they granted. If you get stuck let me know.
  20. Hi DawnSE22, I know little about the topic, no correction nothing, of birds attacking and if we have a local problem. Someone has suggested it is a problem someone else has suggested it isn't. I've never heard of an urban bird cull. Eitherway both have agreed to collect their facts and air them here. Saying no, knowing nothing about the subject isn't my style. So many thanks for pointing me to peer reviewed research that indicates they're not a problem. I've even learnt a new word corvid
  21. Both bids were clearly extremely strong. The EFA must have a reason to select Charter so it must have been the stronger bid. Eitherway, we will have an outstanding new school serving our community opening 2016. hopefully they'll be able to keep the central Chateau building with it's marvellous first floor hall.
  22. The Southwark letter is interesting. It lists schools in the Camberwell planning area as providing sufficient capacity for Dulwich and Nunhead area. It states Southwark administration is against nodal points for admissions. I hadn't appreciated they were now against this. This was a key aspect of the unsuccessful Haberdashers bid. It does seems strange that they're reporting falling number with stable birth rate and I don't get any sense of famalies leaving the area. The Sotuhwark predicted population rise is 61,000 2011-2020.
  23. Harris said this at the Overview & Scrutiny Committee many weeks ago.
  24. My understanding is current Charter1 admissions radius is 1->1.3km spread of a full circle. A new Charter East Dulwich will see East Dulwich children going to the new ED Charter which will extend the Charter 1 admissions radius mostly benefiting those to the NW, W, SW of Charter1. Charter ED probably wont have many applications to the NW where residents would be closer to Charter 1 so Charter ED is likely to have a more extended admissinos radius mostly benefiting those to the NE, E, SE. Effectively both schools together are likely to have admissions footprint combined in the shape of an oblong. I will be seeking that if it is straight crow fly distance that it's measured from the front entrance on East Dulwich Grove. That would place it closest to East Dulwich. Like it or not nodal points wasn't in the Charter bid so I wouldnt anticipate them consulting about nodal points. But thar dosn't stop people responding about them. Admissions consultating is a requisite of the free school process. It isn't optional. Several other consutlaiton will have to take place as well on the site. If it will have sufficient demand, etc. So still quie a journey for everyone.
  25. Sure Bumpkin. Harris Boys ED site is roughly 4,500m2. Sign the change.org petition would be a very good start and promote it to friends and family.
