Hi Wulfhound, The E&C cycle bypass keeps being messed around with. Curerently the Chruchyard Row section has what in my view is an illegal diversion through a park. The New Kent Road toucan crossing was donw graded by Ken Livingstone to a pelican crossing and under Boris moved 200m out of alignment. Southwark Council have also closed Elephant Road cycle contraflow. So frankly the council and TfL are doing as much as they can to remove the cycle bypass by stealth - that's why so many use the main roads. They don't have the time be messed around. @Woodwarde, Whether you think a diagonal crossing is a good or bad idea - that is how the majority of chilren are already using the crossing. Either you cater for it or the junction remains dangerous. The officer advice is that this junction is dangerous and should be changed before we have serious injuries. I can think of other locatinos where a diagonal crossing would be particualrly useful e.g. East Dulwich Raod with Crystal Palace Raod and Adys Road.

Hi jimbo1964, Yes, I believe they do. As with just about all GP practices they are and have always been private businesses. So the NHS will have termination clauses in the contract. The contract presumably is prettyy standard and agreed with the BMA - http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/gms-contract-04-14.pdf I've only briefly scanned clause 26. Anyone game to read al 126 pages and share their views?

Railway Rise Demolition - Consultation now open
James Barber replied to chazzle's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It was mentioned earlier about Thames Water and drains. I've never seen a planning application rejected due to drains or utility connection concerns. The site could be linked into drains directly on Melbourne Grove and would imagine Thames Water would insist upon this. If Southwark rejects this planning application without what is legally considered a valid planning concern - it breachs Southwark policies and strategies - then the applicant can appeal the decision and a Planning Inspector will re consider the application. I've appeared at planning appeals to defend East Dulwich but the applicant often wins. The applicant can then be awarded costs from the council so the council will be certain they can refuse if that is what is proposed. Cllr Rosie Shimell and I are planning to call the decision in - but with 5 clear objections that may not be necessary. -
Hi first mate, On the first consultation I thoguht I was crystal clear in objecting and telling people how they could object or support the first proposals. I haven't yet had a chance to look at the new proposals but will this weekend. It is true I think a bigger proportion of us need to walk and cycle more - three reasons. With plans to grow London by 1.5 million people (which I personally don't like or agree with but can;t see how to avoid them) but no plans for urban motorways, etc the only way the current roads will cope is more people walking and cycling. Any new public transport will just be maintaining the current proportions using public transport. Then their is the huge health time bomb of obesity, heart disease and mental health which more active life styles assist coping with them. Without this the NHS will sink. And as important as the others is the need to reduce CO2 emissions. We could see a drastic reduction by using better technology but more walking and cycling is the moe efficient way of doing this.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Bicknell, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but plan to over the weekend. Will comment then on specifics. Factors that would play into these proposals. More lanes mean more green time for people to cross the road. But keeping the Townley right hant turn needs more green time for that phase than they'd planned. So I suspect these factors are resulting in the suggested lane reduction - but as I said I've not studied the details and hope to do so over the weekend. -
What is replacing the Old Garden Centre??
James Barber replied to guernseyman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Morrisons are apparently still planning to open there when completed. 6+ months delay due to a planning condition bweing stuck with Sotuhwark planning officers. -
Thne i would add, if true, that you have no faith in the practice complaints procedures and state whatever the reason you've lost faith is. If I were a patient there then probably from years of appalling service and with respect to immunisations that they're failing my child's health. Hope that helps. Don't let the...

Please, complain to NHS England BEFORE adding to this thread. This thread is clearly informative but it is NHS England who will make this practice change. I fear most people are not actually complaining to the relevant body. [email protected] If enough people complain something will be done about it. After I formally complained as a local councillor an investigation has been launched and suddenly the DMC are on the forum and employing extra doctors and pharmacists. So we must all keep the pressure up to get things permanently fixed.

James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jennys, I will. It will take me a week or two to dig out my last email exchange with them and the relevant email address. If you PM me your email address I could copy you on the email I send if you're interested. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi first mate, I have objected to these changes. And if the final report recommends the original proposals without change then I will raise my objections with the cabinet councillor before they make their decision and encourage others to do so. I would expect to also formally object to the Traffic Management Order - this would result in the decision having to be reconsidered. I would also encourage others to do the same. But the council is Labour led and if they seriously/legitimately consider all objections and then proceed then as an opposition councillor I will have done my job. It's how we run our democracy. I won't be laying down in the road over these parking proposals. But I will campaign for more Lib Dem councillors so we can achieve a majority and choose to reverse such policies as and decisions as orignally proposed that we disagree with. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi first mate, I'm not on the councils Overview & Scrutiny Committee so I wouldn't get to call-in. But without seeing the report and being abel to show how either the proposed recommendation hasn't followed the councils procedures or doesn't align with strategies their will be little I or my Lib Dem colleagues can do. But first, let's see what the final recommendations are and then talk about any next steps. Hi BNG, Any proposed changes will be run past TfL first. No point consulting on something they might reject and they maintain and operate all Sotuhwark traffic lights as well as being stakeholders through running all buses, etc. So the lack of reconsultatino si around not having an internally agreed scheme within Southwark yet. It might also be stalled awaiting to get the elections out of the way... Hi tiddles, I'd expect to hear at the next Dulwich Community Council in March. -
Hi Monica, We were told that Lordship Lane could have no parking from Goose Green to outside the Coop store. Which compared to the victims injuries seems a small price to pay. But then we were told creating 2 lanes each way would increase traffic speeds and increase the severity of any crash. Saying that Cllr Rosie Shimell and I asked to meet council officers on site to take a long hard look at this junction and what can be done. We've been blanked so far and we need to escalate our request from before Christmas. One thing that has recently changed. The entry treatment to East Dulwich Grove used to be much more severe and a different colour. it really stood out for both counts. Since it was replaced we've had these two crashes.

Many thanks for this information provide so far. Good to see you're recruiting to provide more capacity to see people. One thought - if someone wanted to call in and cancel an appointment it could take a VERY long time to get through to someone. So some of those no show appoijntments could perhaps have been released for re use IF the DMC was easier to communicate with. So what else are you planning to make the start of the day reliable and the phones answered within a few moments/minutes?

One hour free parking in the area...
James Barber replied to easytiger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No, first mate I haven't. I've been involved in an exchange with officers who are celarly happy everything is in order. But further opportunities to formnally object ot Traffic Management Orders which will initiate another cycle and opportunity to object/improve the proposals. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi first mate, No, Officers are now collating all the responses and will present a report to the cabinet councillor for him to decide. The decision will have a publicly accessible report and a period where councillors can call the decision into Overview & Scrutiny Committee. Then individual traffic management orders will be issued and if any objections received the decision to over rule or adjust the scheme based on those formal objections will take place. -
I believe the Dulwich Society now has more members than the reported East Dulwich Society numbers. The former is active the latter is dormant. I hope the two can merge and be a stronger voice for the whole Dulwich area.

369 Lordship Lane Post Office Moving
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Burbage, Not sure it's a wheeze. But for 99.99% of the current services provided will be available but for 111 hours each week rather than 46.5. I've visited another example of this on Southwark Bridge Road and it is clearly more involved and provides much more than you're suggesting. Either way I;d encourage people to respond to the consultation. -

Side Return - ground floor layout advice
James Barber replied to lucy_n's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi lucy_n, You might want to look at the plans for such extensions that have been granted on the Southwark Council planning portal: http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/advancedSearchResults.do?action=firstPage If you selected ward - East Dulwich and DEvelopment type - minor dwellings It will take some sifting as the brand Portal is much less easy to use than the old one but you will see schemes and hopefully they'll help inspire you. -
I suspect having the odd dozen people leaving the practice wont even register with them. They'd need many hundreds to feel any impact and frankly the lcoal choice of quality meidcal practices is very limited. But the complaints authority is likel to notice one practice getting many more complaints that others. For private businesses - and all GP Practices have always been private businesses - they sure give mediocre customer service at best. The rapidly expanding London population is made what was a bad situation much worse.
