Train journey times from ED to LB
James Barber replied to missyelliott's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've just received the following email/statement about all this. it makes one wonder whether moving from 6 through and 9 terminating platforms to 9 through and 6 terminating platforms will result in long-term train service reductions for SE london train stations. I suspect we'll need to campaign for osme of thel ocal services to go through LB to Charing Cross to ensure they survive all the changes. Anyway, the statement: " Network Rail & Southern statement on London Bridge train station Network Rail and Southern apologise for the unacceptable disruption and delays to passengers at London Bridge this week resulting in severe overcrowding on the concourse. This is not the level of service that customers deserve, expect or that we want to deliver. Over the festive break we undertook 16 days of work rebuilding two new platforms, removing and replacing 3km of track and installing new signalling into London Bridge. This work was completed on time. However, the new timetable has proved challenging to manage. We have reviewed this and made some immediate changes to a small number of evening peak services which will reduce the pressure on the infrastructure and allow us to deliver a more punctual service that passengers deserve. We will monitor the service this week and assess if any longer term changes are required. We have reviewed the operation of the station concourse, placed more staff at London Bridge, and implemented additional crowd control measures to separate passengers entering and exiting trains. By the end of the week, we will have additional passenger information screens, so the concourse is used more evenly. Passengers are asked to check with their train operator before they travel. Notes: To improve services for the majority of passengers using trains from London Bridge, the five services from London Bridge to West Croydon have been removed from the evening peak. They were stopping trains that departed at 16.36, 17.06, 17.36, 18.06 and 18.36 and called at New Cross Gate, Brockley, Honor Oak Park, Forest Hill, Sydenham, Penge West, Anerly and Norwood Junction. Landells Road junction with Lordship Lane CLOSED
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes steveo. Chasp was hit on the neck by a falling brick. Very lucky it wasn;t worse / unlucky such incompetence from the builders that it happened at all. -
This junction is closed due to an unsafe building and dangerous scaffolding at 373 Lordship Lane. A roof collapsed causing the shop owner to be injured. The london Fire Brigade were called and Southwark Building control called out. They have highlighted the scaffolding is overloaded and dangerous as well. The shop is on a long lease and the freeholder clearly hasn't managed the building works properly. Southwark Building Control are organising an engineer to advise how to make the scaffolding safe, then ensure the works take place and then reopen the junction. Any problems or concerns please get in touch with me.

Hi edanna, Agree, the lack of planning of utility planned works with Southwark highway renewal works is a stunning own goal. I will ask why they're not considered collectively or if they are why these works are consdiered totally independently. -
If anyone thinks the dulwich Scoeity Transport sub committee isn't doing a great job representing their views then join that sub committee. They're always keen to have new members and extra help. Over the years they've really helped all of Southwark by pushing for things that then get adopted across the whole of Southwark. The Dulwich SRTS were also intrumental in keeping local School Crossing Patrols. So both groups have done great work but if you don't agree with aspects of this scheme come along to the 28 January meeting rather than criticise two very worthy and successful groups OR volunteer to get involved helping set their plans.

What's happening to old ED police station?
James Barber replied to dwatkins's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Otta, My understanding is the EFA bought the former ED Police station to house a Harris ED Primary School. Clearly as the ultimate user the Harris people are heavily involved BUT the EFA are accountable for delivering the physical school. -

Hi first mate, You've not been on conference calls with NHS Property! But their predecessory body kept the Dulwioch Hospital site in its current state for close to 20 years as well. One ray of hope is my Right to Contest application approaching its first anniversary appears to be forcing them to explain to the Cabinet Office why things are so ridiculously delayed. -
Accident on Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Grove

I have asked the head of council service for highways when I can meet officers on site to explore what and when we can improve this junction. I'm awaiting his response. Hi spider69, London has suffered under both Mayors of London from a dramatica reduction in traffic police. Our new ED Police Safer Neighbourhood Team sgt is an ex. traffic police officer. Surprising in one respect but hopefully a useful new skill we can pick to make our local roads ever safer. Problem with zebra crossings of Lordship Lane - and we had this battle when we were campaigning for the two recently added sginalled crossings - is TfL would not agree to zebras as they'd be constantly in use with people crossing and causing traffic chaos. I was horrofied and thought this barmy. But for the last 8 motnhs I've been cycling to and from work via Covent Garden and a zebra that does cause this problem and cars get impatient and don't follow zebra crossing rules. Hi Jeremy, It is one of the options Lib Dem cllrs asked about. You'd proably have it one a different phase. At the time we wer told it was too close to a turning. But I will certainly be asking about this again. Hi MarkE, Any changes would need all stakeholders to be supportive. I don't see local residents on quiet residential narrow streets welcoming becoming major through routes. But more importantly I think it would result in great danger overall. Replaxcing one junction causing understand alarm with several new ones that previous didn't cause such alarm. Hi Maxxi, The advice we've had from council officers and traffic consults who have studied this junction is that by removing the parking would give the ambience of a faster road and people would drive faster. The danger people are reporting is cars turning too fast right from LL into EDG. How would increasing traffic speeds reduce that danger? It would also create higher speeds along LL. -

Hi first mate, Harris don't get to decide where the school they've signed up to provide would go. The Education Finance Agency (EFA)decide. If it had been left to Harris I suspect both would have been built by now. The EFA also decide which free school applicatinos are approved and will hopefully after approving a new secondary school for ED decide to build it at the Hospital site. But they are extremely cost focused as huge increase in pupil numbers. Last time the Education Minister visited ED he explained ?12bn being spent on basic need new pupil place provision. So the EFA will be very focused no how much thel and and buildings cost. But as I siad whether a secondary alone or secondary and primary are build on the hospital site the site has thep potential for secondary school the same of bigger in land allocated for the school than the current Charter School or Haberdasher's. The limiting factor will be the land price and NHS Property knowing all the spare land is needed for educational purposes 'soft' marketted the site to large house builder so they're clerly going to try getting housing land values. -

Hi first mate, Yes, for the 1st Harris Primary school. 2nd Harrsi primary school. When asking whether people supporter a local Harris primary school so many with children of the correct age who could use such a school that sufficient support for more than two primary schoolsd was received. A proportion of them from Peckham Rye ward - many would call east East Dulwich/Nunhead. Equally a number came from south East Dulwich as well as the obvious core area of East Dulwich. Ideally a location would have been found in eastern ED but no site has been found. So a clear need in terms of families supporting these new schools was found. And the EFA agreed in principle to fund two Harris primary schools. WRT the hospital site. It is a debateable point whether sufficient space for both the secondary school I initiated with Rosie could be built on the hospital site as well as a primary school. Ideally they would be on two different sites. Second best they share facilities on the hopsital site. Even both being built completely seperately the new secondary school could have more land that the Charter School or Haberdasher's Aske's Hatcham College each currently have. So the key is whether a further second Harris primary school is needed. Which means do we accept the pupil forecasts Southwark Council right or wrong. Until March Southwark Council was adamant we did not need a new secondary school in Dulwich. With 550 families wanting one they changed their reports to agree a new secondary was needed. What's the worst that would happen if we have this primary school built - fewer Southwark children attending non Southwark primary schools, the secondary school being less expansive than Charter or Habs current secondary school. -

Hi Otta, Yes, that's what's happening. This isn't Harris Federation but the Education Funding Agency causing these timescales. But as with the Harris temporary primary school site planning application this planning application is likely to be delayed by the planning process in Southwark. -

But you'd make Melbourne Grove and Zenoria much more dangerous. The result has to be greater overall safety. Not just shifting danger around. -

Hi PGC, But then many many car etc would drive down Zenoria/Oxonian making that the new problem junction and those two streets are even less suitable for high levels of traffic. -

James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi breadcrum45, Residents should have had proper notification. The logic is the road is going to be dug up for several weeks for essential utility works. They took this approach on the southern end of Melbourne Grove. When the works are completed they'll burn of the lines. Hi first mate, Shouldnt be a problem. The new ED Harris Primary schools isn't near the northern end of CPR. They've only just submitted planning application which wont be decided until after these CPR road works are completed. -
Crystal palace road - line marking tomorrow??
James Barber replied to Jake L's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi KidKruger, The lines will be removed post the works. Exactly this process was followed at the southern end of Melbourne Grove. Shocking that no letters etc were posted to lcoal residents and signs put up generally. Regards james. -

Hi sillywoman, That was in the early 1980's. But yes, selling any school site looks very rash now. -
Yes, the current headteacher Ms Sharron Marland will leave at the end of this academic year. She has done a brilliant job turning the school around working with parents, pupils, staff, governors and Southwark Council. But she will leave the school in July in really great shape.
