  1. But you'd make Melbourne Grove and Zenoria much more dangerous. The result has to be greater overall safety. Not just shifting danger around.
  2. ...and of the 30 complaints only 2 were upheld and of those 1 was for talking about information already in the public domain. The other I believe one was about me freaking out and escalating a concern to the wrong person after having my fears ignored.
  3. Hi PGC, But then many many car etc would drive down Zenoria/Oxonian making that the new problem junction and those two streets are even less suitable for high levels of traffic.
  4. Hi breadcrum45, Residents should have had proper notification. The logic is the road is going to be dug up for several weeks for essential utility works. They took this approach on the southern end of Melbourne Grove. When the works are completed they'll burn of the lines. Hi first mate, Shouldnt be a problem. The new ED Harris Primary schools isn't near the northern end of CPR. They've only just submitted planning application which wont be decided until after these CPR road works are completed.
  5. Hi KidKruger, The lines will be removed post the works. Exactly this process was followed at the southern end of Melbourne Grove. Shocking that no letters etc were posted to lcoal residents and signs put up generally. Regards james.
  6. Hi sillywoman, That was in the early 1980's. But yes, selling any school site looks very rash now.
  7. Yes, the current headteacher Ms Sharron Marland will leave at the end of this academic year. She has done a brilliant job turning the school around working with parents, pupils, staff, governors and Southwark Council. But she will leave the school in July in really great shape.
  8. Hi ZT, You could always point this out to him and the councils monitoring officer Doreen Forrester-Brown asking them to confirm the decision making process considering such fettered comments. Hi Jennys, Write a letter to a local newspaper asking them - you'll get a response then!
  9. Hi worldwiser, A three way signalled junction has been considered and modelled a number of times. It sounds so easy. But such a junction would need to remove all parking on Lordship Lane for 100m north and south to effectively create 2 lanes both ways. Effectively it would feel like a dual carriageay junction with commensurate higher speeds when green. The advice we received was that for any improved safety from controls from the lights would be countered by great speeds of traffic when green. NB. We also done a great deal to make this junction safer. But clearly we need to do more. Hi edhistory, When does that picture date from? Is it from before or after the entry treatment? Hi SE22cat, Many thanks for pointingo ut this other dangerous junction.
  10. The planning application has been submitted for the two form entry permanenet primary school - http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9557974
  11. If you ever hit another such road block to common sense then do try your local councillors direct. In this type of case we've met Thames Water managers and given contact details so we as councillors can escalate problems. To find your local councillor - http://local.direct.gov.uk/LDGRedirect/index.jsp?LGSL=358&LGIL=8 or just for Southwark Council area - http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx?
  12. The victim of this hit&run caled me earlier today - after 11 days in hospital she has been released but has a long period of recovery. I explained I've asked officers for a site meeting to discuss what can be done. Many, since this appalling crash, have highlighted this location as causing them fear. I also suspect that the renewal of the entry treatment has reduced it clarity. Even so we need to intervene more IMO at this junction to make it much safer. Please do email me any idea you may have to make things better.
  13. Hi Charles Notice, Local councillors are typically asked about the counsultation area for such schemes after an initial suggestion from council officials. Hi hopskip, Yes, we need lots of feedback about the Cycling Strategy.
  14. Council officers have told me about planned road resurfacing works. Hopefully all residents have been told - if you haven't please let me know: Fellbrigg Road, between North Cross Road and Whateley Road 8-9 January Trossachs Road, between Thorncombe Road and Glengarry Road 15 January
  15. Lets hope no serious injuries. We've done lots on that junction. Added a signalled crossing there across Lordship Lane, had a full entry treatment added. Had East Dulwich Grove and Lordship Lane (Goose Green to Whateley Road) made 20mph. Collectively that is much more than ?200,000. We take pedestrian safety seriously. Hence why we organised a Living Streets (Pedestrian Association) report to be commissioning about Lordship Lane.
  16. Hi as9, I will raise the matter. Hopefully it won't take long to fix as it is a legal agreement between saiansbrys and Southwark Council.
  17. Hi ZT, Yes that would be normal. A cabinet members decision can also be called in to Overview and Scurtiny Committee. But it would need a reason such as contrary to other policies, etc. Yes the report will be available at least a week in advance of the Dulwich Community Council. And I've just had confirmation that the DCC meeting will be held at Herne Hill Baptists Church, Half Moon Lane, SE24 9HU http://www.hernehillbaptistchurch.org/ Corner of Half Moon Lane with Winterbrook Road
  18. Nothing to stop people putting up signs or posters to encourage others. In East Dulwich you can get free property marking kits which do deter theft. I've just helped order 500 such kits and with a light work has been renegotiated to 610 new kits. Clubbing together for an additional non Yale style lock that isn't mortice but closes automatically. You could ask our local Police to udnertake a crime prevemtion visit and try and organise others to also be in at the same time to help drive the message home. Hopefully these ideas of some use.
  19. Hi ZT, The final decision for this will be taken by the Cabinet member/councillor with responsibility for Transport. I asked and it has been agreed the scheme will be presented at the 28 January Dulwich Community Council which can make recommendations which hopefully the cabinet councillor will follow. Why? Because this is the constitution for Southwark Council that the Labour party have passed. As an opposition councillor the constitution we have isn't the one I would wish for. But that debate is for another day.
  20. More information provide at the following URL: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/4031/townley_road-_frequently_asked_questions Chris Mascord has confirmed that he is accepting email responses to the consultatino as long as they are clear they're formally responding to the consultation and state whether they are for or against. My guess is that without that clarity responses by email couldn't be incldued in the stats he'll be expected to produce for councillors.
  21. Latest news is the begining of March. At least we wont have to wait as long as West Norwood whose Picturehouse will open 2017.
  22. Hi ed_Pete, The delay in NHS buildings going up is truly bizarre. We've tried pushing, we've organisation surveys. But NHS Property has to be one of the most backward public bodies going. It has been 22 years now of procastination. I fear they may be stalling into the 2015 elections and then start a new cycle of thinking, consultations, etc. I agree most of the hospital building would not be fit for purpose - and as single brick walls expensive to made fit for modern purposes. BUT the centra Chataeu has a large hall on the first floor and two wings. It would make a great focus for a new school and give it instant gravitas from day one. But we're a long way from detailed designs.
  23. Hi jaywalker, The government grant is one aspect of the council budget but the council also raise council tax and charges fees. So the actual spending power won't reduce by that amount. Equally the council is unlikely to increase council tax and instead receives extra grant to encourage no council tax rise. With each new development the council also receives money from developers. So much that one local park friends group was asked if they wanted ?1M to spend. Each year the council has been adding ?5M into unallocated reserves. So not doing that would resolve most of this. Additionally the population of Southwark is rising and many services are a fixed cost but with more homes and council tax and central government spending with more people you can cover those costs more easily. For example the library service. Add a few percent of population every year and in real terms the cost per resident quickly goes down. a number of such services. Surprisingly with council budget cuts satisfaction with councils has been rising across the country. So although not something I'd want it isn't quite the bad news story it first appears. The bigger issue is that's as with 2010 it's clear in 2015 that whoever people vote for further cuts will come and over a number of years. When the economy was booming the prudent act would have been to reduce national debt but instead the then government went on a completely unsustainable spending spree. So we all have to help sort out that pickle and no one enjoys the hard choices that have been taking place for a number of years. Hope this answer helps allay your concerns.
  24. Sure, Henry_17. Slipped doors are yale type locks where either no deadlock present or not used. It is relatively easy to slip a door open when only a yale lock involved. Quite a few properties where a common front door to hallways but then seperate flats only have yale locks or residents don't bother using the deadlocks.
