  1. Shop at 99 Crystal Palace Road - formerly a bookies SE side of junction Crystal Palace Road with Upland Road - has a planning application to turn the unit back into a home. Planning application 14/AP/4368. Are you for or against this? It looked odd on its own as a shop unit but with the right shop could help bridge the gap between the main East Dulwich shopping area and the little parade along Upland road.
  2. Tell me the address and I will request council officials immediately visit.
  3. A new alcohol licence has been applied for 151 Lordship Lane to seel alcohol Mon-Sat 9am-11pm, Sun 10am-10.30pm. Please see attached. The hours appear OTT. Any objections or support should be emailed to [email protected] before 24 December 2014.
  4. Of course Vision Zero is mammoth long term plan. http://www.economist.com/blogs/economist-explains/2014/02/economist-explains-16 But they've reduced road deaths by 4/5th and halved since 2000. 2012 they had one child death on the roads. We've also halved the Police recorded road deaths since 2000 across the UK. But hospitals didn't see such a decline. This problem hasn't been reported for Swedish stats. Some research suggests UK roads are sufficiently scary to current parents such that children are much less indepedently mobile. UK is worse than the European average for children involved in crashes. Eitherway, I think this junction needs improving. I hope others also complete the consultation so their views will be recorded and influence the final decision.
  5. hi bawdy-nan, How awful. No wonder you think are worse. Hi peckhambog, I helped organise a number of improvements for the junction of Underhill Road with Barry Road. Both Underhill Road sides had full entry treatments added (humps across the junction sides). Stop signs which required government approval - fortunately the rules were devolved by this government allowing local decision. The remaining issue appears to be speed related along Barry Road. Officers have suggested no parking along Barry Road in both directions from this junction for about 100m. This would cause significant incovenience but improve sight lines. Improved sight lines often result in extra speeding so it appears self defeating. Officers advised on one of the site visits that it would be really hard to meet the criteria for full traffic lights. The lead officer has since retired but I doubt a change of view on this from remaining officers. The junction is partly signalised to some degree with the Pelican crossing. Lets try and get average speed cameras in place - and the policy is that Barry Road is 20mph.
  6. Every year we aim to knock on every East Dulwich ward door - circa 5,200. So we speak to a lot of residents every year. I often get people telling me they view the forum but from their feedback only about 1 in 10 say they ever post anything on the forum. Generally the feedback is they don't want the negativity or even aggression they fear aimed at them. It's a real shame this aura exists. The forum could be even more successful without this fear.
  7. Hi BNG, Yes you can target having zero crashes deaths - hence the Swedish Vision Zero http://www.visionzeroinitiative.com/ To make that happen you have to dramatically reduce all crashes.
  8. I was the East Dulwich {olice station from victorian times until the 1970's when the 'new' East Dulwich Police station was built - which has recently closed. It has housed a number of Police units over the years. The 'new' ED police station used to be where they kept all the emergency firearms for Southwark Police officers. Nice quiet area with little risk of police station being over run.
  9. Hi Mustard, I would check what CGS bids have been made this year and see if any funds could be used in this way to buy speed 'guns' for your local Police Safer Neighbourhood Team. Worth getting in touch with them and perhaps attending a ward panel to discuss this. If no suitable CGS bids then the next round is 12 months way I'm afraid. Hi peckhambog, Installing full traffic lights is really expensive and quite a queue to do this across London. As it isn't any longer a crash blackspot it is unlikely to justify borough money to add traffic lights to this junction. I've applied for average speed cameras that should have a similar impact of reducing speeds. Fingers crossed it is one of the projects that goes forward.
  10. Hi Gloves1980, Unsually we don't have traffic count data for Hindmans Road. of the 65 roads in East Duwlich ward we have data on 53 of them. Please see the Southwark Maps system for all the others locally: http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/southwark.jsp?mapcfg=defaultmap&mylayer1=S_TrafficFlowSurveySouthwark&x=534253&y=174759&z=9 The speed cushions present on Hindmans Road will have some impact on speeding but not very much. Full road width sinusoidal speed humps would have much more traffic calming effect. Let me ask council officials if they can undertake a traffic count which measures volumes of vehicles but also their speeds. This is a pre requisite for any additional traffic calming measures. Any upgrade of speed cushions to humps would be unlikely to gain mainstream council funding as so many other roads have known high volumes of known speeding traffic. So I would anticipate having to use Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding. it would cost circa ?1,800 per hump and 6 would be required = ?10,800 + ?5,000 council overheads of planning, consulting, advertising, legal notices. But lets get a traffic count first.
  11. Hi MarkT, Glad ot be of assistance. I'll ask where we can find Section DS 900. Hopefully it will then appear. Although the wording makes it appear non compulsory council officials treat it as compulsory and really avoid asking for exceptions. So in practice it is compulsory.
  12. Hi Mustard, Only East Dulwich ward and more recently Village ward have provided speed 'guns' for their Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams which obviously are key requisites for this. We've provided a mobile one on wheels and a handheld one in East Dulwich. I think they've jsut provided a handheld in Village ward. The latter was one of the last acts from memory while Robin Crookshank hilton was still a councillor.
  13. Hi Mustard, Any speeding vehicles, note the number plate, Police send a warning letter. After several letters I believe they prosecute. To take part you need an hours training to use the kit. Hi Henry_17, Agreed. I would hope that convicted speeders are given the option of points on their licence or attending a speed awareness course. So yes, this is in place reactively.
  14. Hi ITATM, If white lines were allowed again then their would be no need for the double yellow lines. So yes I believe I am dealing with the double yellow lines by asking for white lines to be allowed again. You do seem to be making this much more complicated than it needs to be. I apologise if I hadn't explained this clearly. But you make a good point about the 2m. This is clearly excessive so I will add that into my request. Thank you.
  15. The East Dulwioch Safer neighbourhood Team operate a community Speed Watch scheme using speed 'guns' meassuring devices Cllr Rosie Shimell and I organised some time ago. If anyone would like to join this scheme please email me for more details. http://www.speed-watch.org/
  16. Hi ITATM, We are talking about Sotuhwark Council. No I wouldn't expect Southwark Council to stick the absolute minimum possible timescales. Do you? Please see SSDM here: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200465/ssdm_background You then click on the left to go through the bits that interest you. I've asked for the white lines policy effecitvely to be reversed - old and new. I haven't had any response so far. Will keep you posted. Happy to forward email to you if you wish or cut and paste into PM if you'd prefer. Please let me know.
  17. Hi ITATM, I think that's partly what the consultation includes. A green phase headstart for cyclists ahead of the green phase for other vehicles. Suspect it isn't 5-10 seconds. But even a few seconds gets most cyclists across the area that would conflict with right turning vehicels from Townley Road. Bizarre to have both proposed - banning right turn and cyclists head start. Hi ed_pete, Could you do a short survey during morning rush 'hour' from 7.30-9.30am and tell us. I suspect many more cars than cycles. Bit chicken and egg. Some would suggest remove the right turn and more people would cycle.
  18. Near misses shouldnt be ignored. Classic H&S pyramid. Lots of near misses, a number of slight injuries, a few serious injuries and the thankfully occassional death. If you can reduce the near misses then you reduce the occurences of more serioues events.
  19. If you email me I can ask the council graffiti removing people to visit. They have kit and chemicals that may do the job.
  20. Hi Andrew1011, The land being referenced was part of the Kings College Botany centre. The main building has been leased after fierce negotiationsa with the Educational Finance Agency for the JKPS. The remainder of the site - open space - the DE kept back for housing. So far the Labour cabinet member has refused to denote this land for educational purposes under the new Southwark Plan.
  21. Take a photo and wash it away.
  22. I'm happy to guide to or from Covent Garden. Mon or Fri best for me - no school run.
  23. Hi MarkT, not really. Several is more that 2. The full SSDM is published on the council website. Paindfully fragmented but it is there. But I would very much welcome the design manual coming forward and with the painful experiences we've had with the current one we could really do a much better more professional job.
  24. Hi MarkT, No, local councillors wont directly be making the decision on this junction. But it would be very surprising if the cabinet councillor for transport went againt a community council making recommendations. So de facto we as local councillors are most likely to be taking the decision. great example of this was the proposed controlled parking around East dulwich station. The decision wasn;t for the Dulwich Community Council to take but I requested we were fully consulted at the DCC. The DCC recommended it not proceed. And despite the cabinet councillor having put forward the scheme they rejected it based on the two community councuils recommendations.
