  1. Hi bluecanary, It certainly feels it. Hi ITATM, But other parts of Southwark do. Even getting people to conform to 30mh would be a good start. But without some other measures we'll see little difference.
  2. Hi first mate, Email that it will affect how you vote on 7 May. If enough do that then they will climb down. If you're normally a labour voter or labour party member then make that clear in your email. They've cleary radically changed policy before when enough voters make things clear. They were totally asgainst a new secodnary school for years in our area. I met with them and over 500 signed up families and they U-turned like crazy. We're fortunate this scheme has come forward just before an election they expect to win.
  3. Southwark Council are introducing borough wide 20mph. It's one of the things people voted Labour for in May 2014. My lot also believe in borough wide 20mph BUT not quite so zealously implemented. Through roads with no homes or shops or schools is hard to justify.
  4. How very bizarre. Cllr Andy Simmons and Cllr Helen Hayes are Labour councillors for College ward. If the meeting was meant to be an offshoot of the Dulwich Community Council then as a local councillor I would be surprised to not be invited. So it appears this meeting was a Southwark Council meeting where Helen and Andy were representing the Labour led council who are proposing this scheme. Not exactly impartial then. it sounds like they hoped to lance this boil. Helen and Andy are always saying officers could have done this or that or terrible officers for whatever road scheme is proposed. This whole scheme has gone through many council officers and Labour politicians hands before it was made public or consulted on. I fear this will push through the NRT. If they withdraw it now they say how much they've been listening. My hunch is they'll suggest further studies blah blah blah after the general election. They can then come back and not be concerned about people voting with this in mind on the 7 May. Residents need to email Helen Hayes [email protected] ideally copying me as another one of parliamentary candidates saying I will not vote for you IF you push this issue to be decided beyond 7 May or if the scheme includes a NRT from Townley Road. A couple of hundred people saying that and she'll for once be clear about something and the Labour council will drop that aspect.
  5. Southwark Council is rolling out a 20mph speed speed limit to all the roads it controls - 95%+ of all roads in Southwark. Hence why some signs are still covered up. Without average speed cameras being deployed which they're not it's unlikely to make a large difference. Even active speed signs that tell when you're over the speed limit Southwark Labour banned due to view of them causing street clutter in 2012. Previously 20mph had been limited to purely residential non main roads with the odd exception such as the shopping area of Lordship Lane and Walworth Road. These changes are not part of any Cycling Strategy but about general road safety. I agree with the principle but not the overly zealous implimentation. Without enforcement I fear 20mph in residential streets and around schools will become totally ignored.
  6. Certainly will UVARchitests.
  7. Hi kford, mikeb, Clearly some CPZ's work and some don't. It depends on the ratio of owned cars by people entitled to apply for parking permits vs. the space available to park. I think a better argument locally against is local residents/councillors have twice rejected such parking. Some families have told me they've moved out of the area as a result near East Dulwich station which isn't good. I get a couple of emails every week from people who are desperate to park near their homes. Near the Dulwich Leisure Centre is the latest painful area to live and own a car. In the Herne Hill area of Southwark the CPZ does appear to work. Perhaps the house frontages are wider resulting in a lower ratio of resident owned cars to space available. The shops seem to thrive but it isn't a destination shopping high street as Lordship Lane and the CPZ only operates Mon-Fri noon-2pm. Weirdly many business owners park outside their shops all day. So some real mixed messages.
  8. More road works: Frier Road (between Lordship Lane and Etherow Street) 4-5th February not clear why and the diversionary route proposed Upland Road, Goodrich Road and Barry Road clearly won't work for buses. I will try and find out what on earth is going on. Whateley Road (between Crystal Palace Road and 52 Whateley Road) 6-11 February. Alternative route proposed being North cRoss Road, Ulvfrscroft Road, Landells Road, Silvester Road, Cyrena Road - this really doesn't make sense for the P13 bus route. So again I will try and find out what on earth is going on Hi BNG, Still no reopens and haven't had chance to visit - presume works now completed?
  9. Hi Renata, The school is Ofsted Outstanding in all catefories not Good as you've stated. Really important point. http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/132711/(type)/8192/(typename)/Secondary%20education It would be really useful if Southwark Council engaged with the Harris Federation at a senior level. Harris feel neglected and my take is these proposals are one sad result from that. I've attended planning committees where Labour councillors have given Harris people an exceptionally rough and rude ride BUT delays and issues were caused by Southwark Council Planning Officers. If we want to successfully influence the Harris Federation then proper thoughtful polite engagement by southwark Council would be a great start.
  10. Hi first mate, NHS Prioperry is just a reincarnation of the previous body hidden within the NHS. The 22 year farce doesn't reflect well on anyone. I'm hopeful this time round things will actually happen.
  11. But 20 mins and 30mins isn't long to run an errand. Easy to over run if a queue in the post office. So intuitively we support this having proposed it in our manifesto. I asked officers if they could share evidence of how much it would help local businesses. They said their is no such evidence. That this was a purely political decision. Their is evidence that charging for parking and using any cash raised to improve the immediate area has had a huge positive impact on businesses. This feels very counter intuitive though and is spun by some as beign a war on motorists. I'm not keen on creating new restricted pasrking where it wasn't restricted before. Espeically outside people's homes. Biggest problem we have is the odd bullying local business removing the signs for existing restricted parking so they can park outside their business all day. I know this is dumb but it happens. We also have two locations where parking wardens don't dare place tickets on their own. The officer advice is to make them double yellow lines. We've resisted this for the impact on residents and so to speak innocent businesses.
  12. Hi pixie23, Isn't the vicar of that church a member of the school staff? The land would be Dulwich estate so I could imagine them transferring some when the church was rebuilt when the lease was probably renewed. I doubt the Dulwich Estate wouldn't countenance squatting! if you're really interested you could pay ?3 on the HM Land Registry online system and get a plan of the church with a red line of the land they have as part of their lease. If this has annoyed you much then best to nail it one way or the other.
  13. Hi first mate, I did share your concern. We've been told at Dulwich Community Council that the proposed new health building will have 4-5 times more floor space than that currently used at the hospital for the current services. So anticipate that we've been future proofed. NHS spend a small fortune every year maintaining the Dulwich Hospital for the small amount of space actually used. I have the impression these costs are paid centrally and clearly whoever in the NHS is paying for this has no strong desire to resolve things - I think we're in the 22nd year waiting for things to properly resolved.
  14. Hi Lollipop, Drop me an email - I can help you sort this out.
  15. It would make a great site for a new primary school. Southwark Labour refused to propose this site for one. I asked in writing twice.
  16. Clearly bicycles are the answer to many of our ills - obesity, air pollution, poverty, etc. But any new facility has to be designed really well to ensure it works properly. And that requires better engagement with residents lining the proposed routes than Southwark Council offering an online map that they've not told residents about and that doesn't explain what it would look or feel like.
  17. Hi buggie, It is great that Dulwich Woods Primary (aka Langnourne) is expanding from one form entry per year to two. All the advice I've had from Southwark School Improvement Managers and other experts in the field is that they believe two form entry primary schools are the optimum in terms of schools results, performance and experience for pupils. This school is lagging behind other local primary schools in its SAT results and this will make some families reticent to use it. It also isn't a very easy school to reach from SE22. It's either a very long circuitous walk, several buses or driving. So practically it is much essier for families from this admissions black hole to access other schools or Dulwich Hospital by public transport. But with all the population forecasts for London - rising from current 8million residents to 10million. It is hard to imagine us having a surplus of school places even with the new schools in flgiht. If anything I fear further capacity problems.
  18. Hi Tessmo, The schools you've listed have such tiny admissions area that it seems unlikely pupils would need to travel via this junction. I'd imagine that's why they've not been included. The private schools don't have distance based admissions and their pupils can come from much further afield. With such high congestion in the area I hope future planning permissions will be conditional on improving this.
  19. Hi BNG, I've not heard anything back. I'll chase some more.
  20. The previous Dulwich Society magazine had an article about Mr.Kleinwort (of Kleinwort Benson). Apparently he walked every day to work in the City of London and then back again - whatever the weather. He insisted his children also did this when they joined the firm. I've just cycle to Holborn. One bus in the 30minute journey - 139 from Waterloo.
  21. Hi ali2007, I thought SE London sits on clay not shale? What evidence do you have of our part of London sitting on a "seam of gas"?
  22. Wrong Bluerevolution. Southwark Council are accountable for ensuring Sainsbury's stick to the letter of the S106 under which Sainsbury's deliver the park and runs it. I will seek officers to enforce the Section 106 legal agreedment with Sainsbury's.
  23. Hi Charles Notice, As ZT will know I can not have a pre determined attitude to taking a decision as a councillor. My statement was me making this clear. If I did have a pre determined attitude to this decision and was not willing to change my mind if new evidence from any source came forward in a timely manner then I would have to withdraw from the decision/committee. I take such decision making very seriously. I've only had one sleepless night as a local politican and that was about whistle blowing which got me in no end of hot water but I did the right thing.
  24. Hi Jeremy, Network Rail decided to change the balance between through and terminating platforms. To achieve this change is immensely disruptive. They could have restored the originally closed 2 terminating platforms and then added through platforms. This would have been much less disruptive and not involved the loss of grade II listed structures. But I'd guess it would not have resulted in as much retail under the station. It feels like travel is now considered less important to Network Rail than shopping. So station design involves ensuring passengers pass as many shops as possible - hence St.Pancras being placed so very far after the rebuild from its tube station.
  25. Hi Jennys, Cllr Jane Lyons being a relatively new councillor she may be nervous about expressing a view before we made a formal recommendation about this scheme at the Dulwich Community Council. You would be amazed about how confused councillors, even extremely experiecned ones, about what they have to declare before making decisions and what they can and can;t say. As long as a councillor approaches the decision with an open mind theyre fine. I've said I think banning the right turn is daft but IF new evidence was explained then I would be perfectly happy to change my opinion.
