I think overall the scheme would be good, IF the proposed banned right turn from Townley Road were dropped. It is cited as being required to avoid conflicts with cyclists but the opposite direction stated cyclists would have a head start avoiding such cited conflicts. I can;t see that both measures are required. My hunch the banned right turn isn't about what's been stated but to make a single lane work from a capacity of vehicles perspective. So a more honest consultation would be welcome. A diagonal crossing is something we've long asked for - currently this is how the crossing is used but designing this into the crossing should make it safer. So please everyone response to the scheme. I've stated I oppose it because of the banned Townley Road banned right turn but overall would like to support it. Hope that makes sense. Adding a post hear WILL NOT AFFECT THE CONSULTATION OUTCOME so please complete the public consultation ASAP. It also isn't clear if the Dulwich Community Council will be invited to formally comment. I'll ask that it is which means a public meeting will take place to discuss the proposed changes.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Villager/Gertrude, Conways were awarded the contract for such works required by Southwark Council. So if the highway is a Southwark highways (which 95%+ are then Conways will do the work. The remainder are TfL and tiny amount of Dulwich Estates highways. The office is a typical arrangement when you have a key supplier to maximise the constructive working together. My day job we have many supplier staff working on site to ensure close working. What bugs me is how often Conways have screwed up the notifying residents of planned works. Hi Tom/tomdhu, I've only just heard of some of the proposed Townley Road/East Dulwich Grove junction changes. I've received incomplete reports but so far they don't sound good. Let me get the exact details before commenting further. Hi kiera, Thanks for that. hi tiddles, I agree. Making the area car parking free isn't the answer for me either which is why we asked council officials to go back to the drawing board. -

Southwark Council proposals for LL/NthX Rd junction
James Barber replied to maxxi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
hi Alice, ?50,000 which seemed very steep. I'm hopeful officers can achieve the works for far less. Hi Bemused, Southwark Council can't really consult on all side roads being changed along Lordship Lane if it didn't have the money or plans to make such changes. Consultations have to be timed around real proposed works to be legally valid. Hi first mate, Why now? Because the entrance to North Cross Road looks a mess. Next year we hope to improve LL pavements. Potentially the junction of Whateley Road with LL. Only slowing down proposed is of cars entering or leaving NCR. LL is already 20mph. Hi worldwiser, EDG/LL. we've organised a full entry treatment, LL signalled crossing to break the traffic flow up and ensure gaps for people crossing EDG, EDG and LL are now both 20mph. If you have specific thoughts how to make this junction better I'm all ears. Hi teddy, please respond to the consultation stating that. The number of cycle stand on the north side look odd as they will block sight lines. I suspect council officials are trying to deter people crossing at these points. I did point thiso ut on a site visit but useful if others point out the issue. Hi first mate, it has nothing to do with M&S and flats above. I can state this as I applied for the project to take place over a year ago. It has just taken an inordinate amount of time to flow through the council system. I mentioned it in January: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,336529,1260331#msg-1260331 -
Back in ED and the Aircraft Noise is worst than EVER !
James Barber replied to fazer71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
But it will get a whole lot worse. EU rules to modernise flightpath technology are being lazilly implemented or proposed to be implemented. London City Airport are proposing to use new technology that means aircraft will much more accurately follow pre planned standard flight paths. So it means much more intrusive noise for people close the centrelines - some have dubbed it 'noise ghettos' will be created. This is compunded b Lnodon City Airport having agreement from Tower Hamlets Council to icnrease flgihts from 80,000 to 120,000 per annum. 27% of the time the flights paths for London City Airport fly over Easy Dulwuch, Dulwich, Herne Hill, Brixton Battersea. The fly between 3,000-2,000 ft during their descent. So a real problem, that will be magnified and dramatically increased. If you oppose this then do respond to the public consultation - I've put the various links: http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/2014/11/12/2769/#page-content -

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Heber/Lordship Lane/Townley Road was next on my list for seeing how we can reduce crashes. But I think it will take a lot of money to fix so would need to be funded by TfL. Officers have proposed Goodrich/Lordship Lane beign made safer by double yellow lining the junction for some distance in all directions. What we said was build out the kerb on Lordship Lane so the people exiting Goodrich Road would be further out and have better sight lines. Do you think this would solve that junction problem? -

Hi Gubodge, The Heber/LL junction has more crashes and is on my list for seeking core Southwark funding to fix along with thE Townley Road junction. Hi Robin, Thanks for the update. -

James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi ITATM, kiera, I've a long email chain and phone calls chasing council officials all through this year to remove the guard railing from the pelican crossing close to the Whatelely Road/LL junction. When the railings go the bins will get moved. It will happen but it has proven much more painful than expected. Hi Nigello, I agree but the foot fall of the NXR/LL junction is much higher than the GR/LL junction so naturely it seems prudent it have a higher priority. Hi Lynne, Yes, and they promised to investigate. -
Trees-trees-trees in East Dulwich
James Barber replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Lee, everyone, My request in SE22 was for people to tell me where in East Dulwich they'd like to see new trees. I've been assured by council officers that empty tree pits will be replanted. We're looking for extra new sites. We've been doing this since 2007. Last count 220 trees. Imagine East Dulwich without those 220 trees. Anyway you can put your thought onthis thread or email me and I'll do my best ot make it happen. Hi ITATM, Am trying to get that daft 1.0m x 1.0m requirement for new tree pits changed. So in a feeling of optimism please don't limit ideas to wide pavements. -
Hi P68, I don't think this applies. Chatting with the new owners they had specific unequivocal surveoyr advice to remove it to stop the cracks in their front wall getting longer and wider. Without chopoing it down no house insurance and then no mortgage. They would have liked to have kept it and do plan on keeping lots of interesting bushes and tress in the rear garden. Hi victoriaplum, If it had been listed it would, in this instance, in my opinion have added cost for the same outcome. The good thing is a number of nearby residents have been inspired to grow their own Monkey Puzzle trees.

Southwark Council proposals for LL/NthX Rd junction
James Barber replied to maxxi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Nigello, firest mate, Sadly we have other junctions with more crashes than GR/LL. The NXR/LL has a number of pedestrian movements but primarily these works are to make this junction more pleasant and a better experience. Hard to be precise about number of collisions as crashes often go unreported even when people injured. But the crashmap website shows a number of reported crashes at this junction and the Pelican. -
Southwark Council proposals for LL/NthX Rd junction
James Barber replied to maxxi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The idea is to make the entrance to the market more appealing while reducing crashes. It's another element to the Living Streets study produced around 2007/8 hat involved a number of residents. Please do resond to the consultation. -

Review of local polling stations, including Heber School
James Barber replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi redjam, 2006 & 2010 I witnessed queues towards 10pm at EDCC. Hi Pugwash, St.John's and St. Clements is already a polling station. Hi david_carnell, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 election days. So it nearly every year. It affects 420 children for that single polling station and disrupts the whole weak. For the children at Heber it represents the loss of a weeks schooling compared to children attending other schools. So cleasrly it isn't a disaster but clearly we can do better for these children. -
ED Picturehouse - When will it open?
James Barber replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The granted planning permission 14/AP/1101 included a number of conditions. None are recorded yet as being consulted upon e.g. Cinema Management Plan as per Southwark Council website and all are required to be completed before any opening. In fact some are required before building work completes. So a December opening does look under threat unless we see a sudden flurry of work. -
Review of local polling stations, including Heber School
James Barber replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi redjam, Snap. I raised tihs in the latest issue of SE22. wards such as East Duwlich are divided into Polling Districts. The East Dulwich Community Centre on darrell Road has had long queues outside before. So council officials wont merge it with another Polling District. But I'm sure we can find a nearby venue as an alternative to Heber School. I was hoping we could use the church on Goodrich Road/Lordship Lane but that hasn't worked out due to access. If anyone has a suggestion please tell me. -
what's the new shop on east dulwich road
James Barber replied to Labib1.83's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cycling has really increased and hopefully on a trajectory to quadruple in the next 5-10 years. With the Mayor of London planning to increase London's population from 8 to 10 million people, more people cycling one of the least painful ways to squeeze more people into London's transport system. So hopefully room for a new Evans as well as the existing bicycle shops. -

Petition re Dulwich Hospital site
James Barber replied to samstopit's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The delay to 2016 of opening the Harris Nunhead Primary school (yes the name is daft) means it is much more likely to be on the Dulwich Hospital site. The only reason for delay is not finding an alternative site. The timings for new schools on the Dulwich Hospital site is 2016. It does make is clearer that any secondary school on the site 2016 will work. For those that don't want this primary school on this site the delay is bad news - and I would much prefer a site for the primary school near one of the two primary admissions black holes. -
I received a number of calls first thing this morning. Being around 40 foot tall moving it I would anticipate beyond a normal households budget. The tree surgeons have collected lots of seeds and have offered them to neighbours so they can choose to grow their own Monkey puzzle trees. WE could have a Crystal Palace Road Monkey Puzzle glade. And yes, the new owners have been told it is a problem for their house - and I expect it's a requirement of their insurers and mortgage company to fix ASAP.

James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Nigrloo, Have reported but without constant parking warden attendance during those hours it will happen. Hi ZT have reported and asked for supprot for Beauval Road. tricky. With less street cleaning and litter pickering - it's now the least it been - others see an example of dog poo and it appears the 'broken window effect' applies - they're more likelyto not clear up and it accelerates. Eitherway will try and get bins and stencils on pavements to minimise. Hi Lynne, Have reported to trading standards for them to investigate.
