  1. We put a huge amount of our effort into helping Simon Hughes. I think P68 analysis is spot on. Lib dem strategy played to the Tory strategy of fear about Labour and SNP. Labour out campaigned us locally with things like hours to save the NHS, coalition will close King's College hospital, etc. Either way its over. Unlikely they'll ever be another Dulwich & West Norwood general election campaign assuming the tories now press ahead with significant boundary changes.
  2. Perhaps worth reading the Wiki version of those events in 1983 rather than incomplete rumours: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermondsey_by-election,_1983
  3. Hi holloway, I'm not part of any exodus. Since the er...dramatic... results 650 new members have signed up to the Lib Dems. Our bird symbol is a bit Phoenix like. So down but not out. And we still have lots to do in East Dulwich.
  4. From this thread I've had 4 such instances emailed to me and all are progressing with council officers. Some had been repeatedly raised with Southwark Council by residents without success so effectively I've been used to escalate each one and I'm assured they're being investigated. Three have lapsed tax disks and appear un road worthy.
  5. email me its number plate and I will get it removed assuming as stated it isn't road worthy.
  6. If anyone in East Dulwich ward (bounded by Grove Vale-East Dulwich Rd-Crystal Palace Rd-Upland Road-FRiern Rd- Underhill Rd-Dunstans Rd-Lordship Lane-Melbourne Grove) wants a ground anchor to lock their motorbike or bicycle - email me and we'll get them installed for you. It one of the many crime prevention initiatives Cllr Rosie Shimell and I have been working on.
  7. Clearly as a Lib Dem I defend the right to free speach. But the implied assumption The Charter School can't have made the right candidate choice isn't fair. They had all the facts and we don't. When people google search TCSED in the future this will all pop up which will make the job harder convincing paretns to put our new secondary school as their first choice.
  8. They mean the JAGS tennis court area accessed via Red Post Hill. Have you asked if they could host any of these activities in other parts of JAGS or their sport centre?
  9. I'm delighted that the TCED has moved so quickly. I congratulate them on this. Working with the EFA and NHS Property will be a very demanding role and the mix of school leadership, project management skills and experience sounds a wise balance for this role. As someone who has had several careers each benefiting from earlier ones I can see no problem in our new head having experience in the financial sector. I trust TCS teams judgement in making this appointment. They clearly put together the best application for our new secondary school and I have no doubt they've chosen the best candidate for this new headship role. I wonder whether the second coming would have made people happy with this appointment!
  10. The offer is their if you get stuck.
  11. This sounds awful. Can you PM me which school and I'd be happy to raise with the head. It's bad enough policy/process but some families just could'nt afford to replace any items lost in this system.
  12. Thanks JohnL, You might be interested in a book I have called "Normal Accidents". The idea is perfectly nortmal asctivities that when brought together go horribly wrong. Happy to lend it to you if interested. PM me. I used to help design new systems and systems upgrades and then Kaizan/Lean Production. Lots of crossover of thinking.
  13. East Dulwich Road will be closed Thursday 28th and Friday 29th May between Goose Green roundabout and Ady's Road for resurfacing. I've asked whether it really is a total road closure - with buses and vehciles diverted - or just severe disruption with traffic lights. The attached implies the former. Throughout I've been assured the pavements will remain open.
  14. Good objection MarkT. Hopefully others will also rasie these reasons to object and others.
  15. Thanks Blah Blah for constructive comment! Sweden has a strategy of going for zero crashes called Vision Zero. Part of achieving that is investigating crashes in a similar style to air crashes - what were the root causes and then they seek to eliminate them. They have seen huge reduction in crashes and the severity of crashes. Another strand is proper Police enforcement of drink driving, etc. The naming of crashes accidents has meant decades and decades of just accepting that they happen with little changing. It implies fate. It implies acceptance of people being injured and killed when relatively simple changes to our roads and behaviour could avoid them.
  16. My first visit on Saturday to see Far From The Madding Crowd. Great film. Comfy sofa. Ticketing felt a bit hapzhazard and cinema hadn't been cleared of rubbish from previous screening. It was sheer joy to be in a cinema in East Dulwich. I'm just sorry it took 5 years to make happen. And to think I originally thought we'd only be able to attract the likes of Bermondsey Shortwave sized cinema!
  17. Hi Fitzgeraldo, It would be resolved quicker if people reported such problem quicker. Your post implies you didn't. Really easy to do call 020 7525 2000 or 5777.
  18. I';m suggesting that the flats will be purported to be live/work offices. They don't need 8 bathrooms for two small floors of offices space. The plans are quite clear lots of bathrooms. eitherway this can all be resolved at the planning committee that will now decide this application due to the councillor call-in Rosie and I have requested.
  19. But the severity of crashes should be reduced as they're proportional to speed. No such thing as an accident.
  20. If thedeveloper were to add two flats to the granted permission for 8 that would = 10 flats. The threhold for providing 35% social housing is over 9 flats. So they're now descrining the flats as offices - the plans clearly show 8 bathrooms, etc. Classic salami tactic of developers. KEep applying for slightly more. The individual incremental changes being hard ot resist but the total would never have gained permission. Clearly the developers have deep pockets to be so patient. So, we've called-in this planning permission so a planning committee of my councillor peers will decide the scheme.
  21. It's a moral argument. Should a charity who beneficeries are almost totally local private schools screw a state funded school and remove its playing field. Edward Alleyn would turn in his grave that his legacy is reduced to this sordid behaviour. What the Dulwich Eatate should be doing is seeking to broaden its charitable aims to local Dulwich schools of all types.

  23. The Southwark Council parking fine system has been down for 2-3 days. It is now fully operational again. You will not be penalised if you've missed payment deadlines due to this. This is exceptionally rare - first time I've been aware in 9 years of being a councillor. Any problems please let me know.
  24. TfL are trialling some buses that will only be able to travel up to the speed limit and not over. No clarity over which bus routes being trialled on. It shouldn't be long to see if 20mph on borough roads has made a material difference crash rates and severity of injuries.
