the moving thing isn't really due to the incident yesterday. We had been speaking about it because we need more space now and thought we might find something larger and cheaper so we have less of a mortgage back towards the roads that we know and love. This was just one of those little things that makes you think about it more seriously, especially if you can't ever see yourselves fitting in properly or more to the point your children finding friends in the area. we are going to carry on parking where we can and have decided just to smile and shrug and say, yes parking is terrible around her isn't it and then walking off.

I honestly did try to be nice yesterday when the conversation started. Originally as I got out of the car she came and asked me to move my car because she was expecting a delivery. I said 'yes of course, when is the delivery arriving?' 'all the time' was the reply! Ok I said, I am out again in 1 hour so will be moving then, please knock on my door if it arrives beforehand and I will move. I don't know where you live she said, just there (pointing) said I. I don't have time for this says she, you are inconsiderate to people with babies and the old people. Me - shocked - What? Excuse me but this is a public road etc etc. Her then telling me that the neighbours all agree that I should park somewhere else and leave the spaces free. finishing with me saying I don't like your attitude and don't understand your point, her, I don't have an attitude I am a peaceful person and I don't have time for you - goodbye. it's all very strange, I really don't want to make enemies but I don't think these people are interested in being friendly with their neighbours only their own little circle. We are thinking of selling up and moving back towards ED, Forest Hill etc.

I have thought about that actually and do worry about possible repercussions. I am confident however that this particular neighbour is unlikely to shoot me but she does have teenagers around sometimes so they could potentially be trouble. My own boys are far too small to pose any problems for them. It's the end of the street with the lowest odd numbers, but not the first house as the old lady there is quite sweet....

yes they do have some cheaper shoes, I take that comment back. For some reason though I don't actually like a lot of the more reasonably priced stock, only the very expensive varieties out of my reach. Ideas above my station - I know! I would just like to have something a bit funky and affordable. No slur or stella b or barnets. maybe I am just a shoesave sort of girl at heart -
shall look out for your gigantic audi, leave space for my crappy silver odd car though. Actually we did try to buy a house on one of the Alleyn roads before buying here but lost out, should have found some more money from somewhere at least then we might have had interesting neighbours. I need exercise, have eaten a hefty amount of chocolate today due to feeling bullied by the locals.

can anyone come? I have quite enjoyed the nice response to my post on the other board that I would like to see what you're all about.

sounds good to me, I may even venture to the cpt myself on friday night if I can find a babysitter that will put up with my two little monkeys.

I know the road you are referring to as it is the most direct to dulwich park but alas no, this one is a bit further down and has considerably less sylabubs. I like that other road though, the houses are very pointy and happy looking.

I'd quite like another shoe shop, something in between the practical clarks stuff at barnets and expensive impracticals at stella b. girly, pretty shoes that are affordable to working mum's like me. a trashy nail bar a proper cake shop/pattiserie type shop creche type thing with indoor bouncy stuff for rainy days and somewhere to buy bedding, towels etc -
I don't know if you are allowed to say the name on here but you could maybe tell me how many syllables it has and the middle letter, that should solve it. There are two roads connected to it and we live on the less beautiful road but beautiful enough for us though. Pity the neighbours are not so beautiful inside.......

I am considering the sand as the easiest option, it is making us laugh too at just the thought of it which has to be brilliant therapy too. The road I am referring to is either just in SE22 or just in SE21 and runs towards Dulwich Park. There are a few famous residents at one end (who seem to be quite neighbourly by the way and are the only people who have said hello in the past). The houses are all very neat and tidy and very unspoilt by porches, cladding, crazy paving and the like. there is always dog poo at one end (which coincidentially isn't my house but the way the neighbours have been acting might as well be). can anyone guess which road? posh mum - friendly neighbours would be lovely

I would of course omit any posts that would be considered threatening! I am seriously considering printing these out at least to keep on hand if there are any further developments. Have just been outside with my small boys and noticed a few figures huddled together having a little chat. May be a bit paranoid but felt that they might be talking about me! Mr Chuff did point though to ascertain the aformentioned complainant which sent them scurrying away so maybe that's the end of that. beware the Mr Chuff and his finger pointing!!!!

there is a huge motorhome on marmora road that would be of great use, would really upset them. sand is great idea and if I pay by cash and wear a disguise - wonderfully anonymous too!

spadetownboy - Great minds think alike, was just looking at skip prices! am not really that vindictive but it makes me feel better to think about all the annoying things we could muster up.

I am not too far from you SeanMacGabban, just on the other side of LL by the library thingy. thanks everyone you have cheered me up and feel less like the 'naughty girl at school' now

I would so love to tell you all the street to park in but I think I may be 'censored' if I did. Needless to say though all your comments have been helpful and it is good to know that we all feel that public roads are just that and we have the freedom to park where we can. We are applying to have off street parking but due to the position of our house on the corner of a busy-ish road, it's doubtful that we will be permitted to go ahead. As for DM's suggestion of underground parking well that would be lovely but our pockets are decidedly shallow these days after having to spend so much just to buy this house in the first place. It's also starting to grate that I have borrowed a substantial amount of money to buy a house in an area that I thought would be wonderful for our family only to find out that we have moved amongst a very unfriendly bunch of people. Should have stayed on the other side of ED! I may just take up diddley's suggestion and buy a banger to leave outside permanently.
-
Yes that's exactly how I feel about it that if they could be bothered to take the time to say hello and be nice in the first place then maybe I would avoid 'their' spaces when possible.
-
I think I said 'her' in my first message but yes I would probably assume that the complainer was female too but then the accused 'me' is also female and quite fond of of a good old moan!
-
by the way, I live on the side of East Dulwich that borders the village and this is the first communication we have had with any of the neighbours since we moved here last September. It seems small petty mindedness (is that a word?) is the way to be here and I'm finding it hard to adjust to coming from the slightly less affluent side of ED originally.
-
Just as I thought really but just worried that either way I can't win. If I do carry on parking there when the spaces are available then I am being inconsiderate to the old people, pregnant ladies and families with small children that live in the road. I also have a 1 year old and a 5 year old and am a little grey around the gills myself so probably fit the 'old person' label too. And if I give in, well then I am a great big old chicken and letting grumpy neighbours tell me how to live my life. Also not to mention the damage the old bat might do to my car!

How do the rest of you cope with the parking in East Dulwich and surrounding areas? We are having a difficult time at the moment and seem to have upset one of our neighbours as we parked outside their house today as it was the nearest available space to us. We live on the corner of a busy road and have to park to the side of our house in the adjacent road. The neighbour is asking us not to park outside any of the houses in the road and has commented that the other houses in the street are behind her on this. I have politely explained that the road is owned by southwark council and that anyone can park anywhere in the street but feel a little slighted that this has become an issue for her and supposedly the other houses in the street. Has anyone else had this sort of experience? If so did you find another street to park in or stand your ground? any advice welcome chuff
