    Petty Annoyances

elfy, I was joshing, I found it funny in my twisted way to call someone a pedant on a thread about petty annoyances. No apologies though for crapness of this posts content, typed on my phone, in bed, with cats arse in face again. How do you all feel about semi colons by the way?

Asset Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > incorrect use of apostrophes > hahahahahahahahahahahahaha, sorry. I'm with you, Asset. It drives me up the wall. Its - possessive use. No apostrophe. The dog eats its bone. It's - shortened version of it is. It's raining today. How f*cking hard is it? Oh I did it on mine, apologies. still very easily done when you are typing and elsewhere in your head. pedant :)

    Petty Annoyances

why my cat thinks it's ok to stand in front of my computer monitor watching the cursor with it's arse in my face why it always chucks it down on the school run why do I always want to eat cake when I know it makes me fat why do I always find a cold, wet, heavy sponge thing in the kitchen sink and have to squeeze it dry euugh why is the bloody shoe shop in the village always rammed when I go in there why are there slugs oh i have so many that I have become one
  4. and I didn't catch one of mine with two wotsits up the nostrils earlier! I missed that thread moos, maybe we should start another one but I do have raging pmt so maybe in a few days when I am less likely to rant. Coincidentally a close friend of mine has a child that repeatedly kicks and punches her when he doesn't get his own way. Apart from having tv watching rationed and being told 'don't do that', nothing else happens, no real punishment etc. I dread to think what will happen when he's older and bigger. I just hope he grows out of it for her sake otherwise she is going to have a really hard time. I actually tell him off more than they do which I know is wrong but I can't bear to watch him get out of control and lash out at her. and just to finish off, my au-pair is fantastic and a brilliant companion for my kids in every way. night
  5. Asset it does seem to me that nearly all threads end up with some sort of conflict. Apologies though if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick. Yes there are lots of legitimate reasons for kids to seemingly misbehave but I think we are all a bit too soft with our children these days and many could do with a bit more discipline (spoken like a true old fart) Mine included Am shutting gob now
  6. well the original poster said she THOUGHT she was an au-pair and generally everyone replied with their thoughts about an au-pair position and what it should be. As usual this has turned into a squabble which I for one am finding tiresome and is one of the main reasons I usually post here just to offer freebies etc. ho hum
  7. and of course shoe shopping is an absolute essential (unless of course they didn't have any shoes that fit AND I know this is incredibly hypocritical of me who needs shoes on a regular basis but still) Au-pairs are to help out, to be part of your family and learn something from their time here and are paid accordingly. Nannies however are experienced in childcare and are paid somewhat more and would probably be well equipped to deal with a tantrum in a shoe shop. Don't blame the au-pair, blame the parents for allowing their children to treat their au-pair badly.
  8. We have an au-pair and have had for the past few years. Our kids are 3 and 6 and not angels either. BUT the children are my responsibility ulitmately and I would not expect the au-pair to deal with bad behaviour to the extent that they feel out of control. Taking the kids for new shoes is a potentially explosive situation anyway and not something an au-pair should have to do. Why would the parents not take them themselves? Treat your au-pair well and they in turn will genuinely care for your kids, who hopefully will behave nicely for the au-pair!
  9. it does happen all the time, the only way to stop it is to make sure you take donations when the shops are open. I've seen many people picking through the charity shop bags and some have genuinely looked in need of the stuff but others not. chuff
  10. wurlingham or whorlingham has always been a confusing one for me friern has always been freeurn to me and was pronounced freeurn when the girls school was open too
  11. Shu.Kurimu.Sensei it seems an odd thing to say to someone and yes I can see how it could be upsetting. I reckon he took one look, thought she was attractive and out of his league and that was the first thing that fell out of his mouth. Seen it myself plenty of times. Used to get very upset when younger and had to endure men 'woofing' at me from the other side of the street. Took me years to work out that they weren't calling me a 'dog'. i'm old and shrivelled now though chuff
  12. Hi Jen Yes she's home, she was sulking as we have a new kitten. I'm hoping she decides that our house with a kitten is a better place than outside without a kitten! thanks for the offer
  13. Our cat Fifi is missing, she is a brown spot bengal, just over a year old and quite shy. We live in between Alleyn's playing fields and Dulwich Library. If anyone has seen her please let me know, we are all missing her like mad. thanks chuff
  14. oh dear, that is a worry Can you put a notice on your front gate and leaflet the neighbours? I'm sure people would be happy to have a look around their gardens for him. good luck with the hunt and I hope you find him soon
  15. don't the houses look 'grander' with the railings in the pic (or are the people just weeny)
  16. keef said My memory may be playing tricks on me. Where was the big department store, I was sure it was down that end of the high street. Even the indoor market used to be good. Oh that was jones and higgens, I was thinking about the shops on peckham hill street. There were 2 indoor markets weren't there? the one by the station (long arcade type) and the newer one further up on the opposite side.
  17. Keef, what was opposite the library then? I seem to remember a knitting shop! I worked in Rye Lane from 82-89 whilst at school/college at the weekends.
  18. jones and higgens I remember it well
  19. oi snorky, you laughing at me? :)
  20. The drug dealing thing is a hard one, I've seen loads of it, but not just in Peckham, it happens all over (I must be looking for it). I have always felt that the Ondine Road side of SE15 was never like Peckham at all, always East Dulwich and I have been here for 40 years. I do think Peckham has two faces and the bellenden road area seems to be the dividing line. Personally I wouldn't live in Peckham now, but if I was younger I would happily consider the bellenden/ondine side.
  21. Chantelle, I think you can get to Blackfriars from West Dulwich or Herne Hill stations too in rush hour. Although it has been a few years since i've travelled from those stations so it might have changed. Both those areas are imho nicer than Peckham. And it is just my opinion so no shouting please! chuff
  22. I used to go there with my friends between 1985-1987 ish, it's all a bit hazy though tbh, was inexperienced drinker and had many a wobbly night in there. chuff
  23. strangely no big steaming piles of dog poo though
