  1. Luxury of the internet 24/7 is what I'm talking about. Plumbers, electricians, teachers, nurses, doctors, drivers etc would all have a hard time during the day wouldn't they so they're unable to join in with a continuous 'conversation', hence their opinions/comments will be less frequent than others. Sean - If you're anti-chain, does that also make you anti-Capitalist!? Just wondering, what with your job and all. ;)
  2. Jeremy - shocking! Mine was in Berlin. They may know how to party out there but make cocktails, they can't (well where I went anyway). Hollyoaks... now I'm going to have to wash my mouth out! I went to a charity ball a few months ago and had the displeasure of sitting next to a table with a couple of male 'actors' from there. What a bunch of prats (I'll save on the expletives)! One guy won the auction for a Brian Lara signed cricket bat for around ?600 and just didn't stop going on about it - calling all his friends to let them know how he couldn't believe how much he'd spent etc. Completely did my head in.
  3. Government cuts taxes. Government must then print more money. Resultant issue - inflation. That doesn't work.

    Polls

I'm not suggesting we use it for democratic decision making for the area. Rather more light-hearted topics, such as "How long have you been living in ED?", just off the top of my head. 've seen some good forum software that can handle polls in a clean way - usually just adding the poll at the top of the thread by the topic creator, leaving it optional as to whether one wants to fill it in or not.
  5. The mini-bar was sadly lacking wife-beater by the six-pack, so I opted for the Jacuzzi with a good amount of mood-lighting instead!
  6. TheePope - SPOT ON! This forum or ANY forum is never going to represent a balanced demographic of the area. Most of the views expressed on here are from people no doubt sitting at their desks at work with 24/7 internet access. Not everyone has that luxury. [Edited this many times, as I am a Muppet]
  7. The last Mojito I suffered was made with mint cordial! Nothing will ever come close to that...
  8. suzilucy - pretty boys and girls? Do I detect bitter envy there!? Blimey, it's nice to see people making an effort to look good when they go out. Bring it on I say! Let's hope it can attract even more pretty ladeeeeeeeees! ;)
  9. Budget airlines is another example. You can be on the same flight as a hundred others, but the chap next you may have paid 1p, whilst you've paid ?100. Companies are getting much smarter at extracting every last penny they can out of their customers - quite literally. In most cases, the same product can be found much cheaper. The same is true of the 79p(?) burger at MacDonalds. I booked a hotel a couple of weeks ago at the very last minute (10pm the night before). I was told that I'd taken the last room. When I turned up, I was given the presidential suite! The rate I paid? The same as everyone else - the standard double room rate. Why? Well it's better to get money off a paying customer than nothing at all and an empty room - so as long as they are not going to make a loss, then it makes every sense to.
  10. Same product (beer) aimed at two separate markets. Companies will do all they can to milk the most they possibly can - a similar reason you can pay to add silly flavours to your coffee at Starbucks. There are those that will always look for the cheapest (cans), but also those that are happy and able to pay more (ie, those going to nice bars or even buying the more fashionable bottles). This lower end of the range is competing in a more competitive market though in which supermarkets have been continuously pushing prices down. There are also many more imported beers these days. Remember, the brewery companies still own most of the bars and pubs, so it's more of a monopoly on the draft lagers etc, hence prices have moved up. It's interesting stuff though and I'm sure there are many more factors at play and other examples such as this.
  11. Do they do six packs of unleaded!?
  12. I witnessed the sign today for the first time (I've had my blinkers on for the past few weeks). Boy, it's gotta be competing with the day-glow lights of foxton! Outch! I'm still looking forward to giving the cocktails a chance though. Was going to head there tonight, but Newsnight got the better of me. Damn, turning 30 really is starting to bite!

Is there any chance that this feature can be added to the forum? I think it would have a lot of support from fellow forum partakers.
  14. Stay safe, stay lazy, shop Ocado.
  15. Might grab some cans of beater myself!

But we'll also need alternatives for plastic etc. Oil has so many applications other than just 'energy'.
  17. ct - nice tip, thanks. Where is Oddbins around here?
  18. I sell cakes for ?10 a slice. They ARE the best. Macroban - would you like to try one?

Fast efficient electrolysis is the answer. Hydroden and oxygen in gas form extracted fast enough from water is the way to go. No one has so far been able to do it fast enough for this to be of practical for use in engines though. Actually, some think that the oil companies bought all the patents/papers for this many years ago. Can't think why!? ;)
  20. I stayed in Best Western hotel (much against my will!) in Berlin not long ago, so I'll probably become the next victim of all this!
  21. My latest crate was bought direct from the vine yards in Croatia. I'm a big SA wine fan (of which you'll find a few in G&B, given the owner is South African!), but this stuff isn't bad actually. Isn't Freshers next door to Tivoli amusements? Perhaps they are knocking through for the new proposed bar? Or many my LL geography has gone to pot...
  22. I use Virgin Wines online and for the odd beer etc, I'll use my local off-licence on East Dulwich Road. Nicolas (sp?) looks pretty good though, although I've not been in there for a while. Also Green and Blue have a great selection of wines.
  23. The poll would simply be... "In the past year of living in East Dulwich, have you had your card details knowingly stolen?" 1) Yes / 2) No I'd bet less than 5% will answer yes, but it would be interesting to see. I'm not suggesting we try to pin point times and locations.
  24. Woohoo! Last time I used that place was last Christmas. They had an offer advertised outside the shop for Champagne. I went in to buy about 4 bottles and they would not honour the offer, even for one bottle. Seemed like a bunch of Chavs managing the place and don't think they could tell a Cava from a Laga in any case, so I personally won't be sad to see it go.
  25. I'm pretty sure non of this is an SE22 specific issue! You put a few thousand people on any forum and I'm sure ~1% (10's of people) will all have had their details stolen. The common thing we all have is our location though, so it's not an outlier IMO. Admin - is there any way we can run polls on this forum? Would be great to see % of people that have been impacted.
