  1. Just another shout out for Dan at Top Signal. Responded quickly, diagnosed the issue and gave good advice and all for a fair price. Recommended.
  2. I posted the Missing Cat thread yesterday but he turned up this morning so its been removed. I'm not an expert but seems highly unlikely that foxes would be to blame - I've seen our older cat face-off multiple foxes in the garden and road in recent years. Now speeding cars is another matter......
  3. Hi everyone, Our missing cat turned up at 7am this morning - thanks to all for kind messages and looking around. He's fine so I'm guessing some kind of 'teenage' rites of passage!
  4. Thanks HP. He (Halloumi) is chipped and scheduled for the snip next month! Never shown any inclination to wander beyond the back garden so very strange - hoping he's stuck in a shed etc. Southwark Council also contacted just in case.
  5. Hi all, Our 4 month old cat has gone missing overnight around Crystal Palace Road/Great Exhibition area so please keep an eye out. Tabby with unusually big ears! Any info very much appreciated - 07811 241 377. Many thanks Mark
  6. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > XTC were deeply unfashionable? Really? Er yes - amongst my peer group at least but completely accept that "deeply unfashionable" is only an opinion and not an exact science. I'd question the earlier references to the Cure / Sisters of Mercy etc and I'm sure you could probably find a demographic that still worship the Wurzels. In evidence however I submit - We're Only Making Plans For Nigel....
  7. Gary Numan - nerdy pilot rock god! XTC - definitely improves with age. Del Amitri / Aztec Camera / Big Country at a push? & another for the prog rock sub-group - Spirit
  8. Hi Lynne, The tip has now moved to Devon Street just off Old Kent Road (by the gasworks). Details here....... http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/10070/recycling/1364/recycling_and_reuse_centre
  9. I say good luck to them - anybody that takes on a down at heel, back-street pub in these challenging times deserves some support. I've been a regular for years and am amazed it's kept going when you can usually count the number of customers on one hand (two when it's busy). As long as you don't look too closely at the electrics, carpets, ceiling, decoration or bogs it's a great local pub and I look forward to seeing what they do with it.......shall stand a pint for all the cynics as well.....
  10. Close call on who is more bonkers - Greengod for believing the Daily Mail or Penguin68 for thinking that dumping bags of used nappies and food scraps into the Channel as a sea defence will rebalance the ice age thaw! Most of Southwark's plastics actually get sent to a recycling plant in (not very) far-away Dagenham (www.closedlooprecycling.co.uk). Metals (and glass) don't degrade when recycled - they retain the same properties as if produced from virgin materials (but require far less energy to process). The fibre strength of paper does reduce each time it is recycled (eg from office paper to newspaper to tissue paper or the inner layer of cardboard boxes) but still takes massively less energy than creating paper from a tree.
  11. About ?35K per year to maintain good relationships with the unions and wider workforce in such a large and complex organisation as a council sounds like good value to me. Daily Mail reader alert?

Fabian Capello rings Wayne Bridge at home. "Hi Wayne. John Terry's lost the England captain's armband. Can you have a look under your bed he thinks it might be there?" Sorry! Still in shock JT got discussed on Newsnight. Sad times.
  13. Hi Sam, They've got a lot of stuff on YouTube if you want to sample more.
  14. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilions defo my fave album of the moment (can seem a bit 'chanty' on first listen but will take you places if you stick with it (PM me for sampler). If you like Beta Band / Polyphonic Spree la la la where's this going? vibe this is for you. Otherwise mostly old and 'selective taste' dodgy Krautrock and Prog stuff but love Holy F*ck (youtube lovely allen), BlackMoth Super Rainbow and Wooden Shjips. Who else? - finding new music gets harder as you get older! Enough - [hangs head in shame from realisation of dad-rock tastes]
  15. Hi foxy 69 and welcome to the mostly puzzling but occasionally entertaining world of the ED Forum. Takes a bit of time to work out the "are they serious or just taking the piss?" postings but sure you'll get your bullshit detector up quickly. My dear departed granny had some simple words of wisdom (as does everyone's granny) which I recommend you follow - 'every pub deserves a pint' - so just try them all and see which fit your mood whenever you're out. Lordy Lane crawl always entertaining - just do them all in one night - not that many? CPT is my fave "local for locals" pub but not a 'dancing with hot women' kinda place (but sure Dulwich Dave will disagree and recount some dodgy birthday-ropey stripper type occasion). The Vale is good for late on-the-way-home-from-town-bit-pissed-but-just-want-one-more-pint(s) occasions and weekend footy matches (with or without the short trip to the mighty but disappointingly mid-table Hamlet inbetween - has a good cheap-ish bar with panoramic view of the pitch). Even the (often dissed on here) Castle is good if you're ever at a loose end midweek and fancy a random night where you could talk bish-bosh-bash geezer stuff or deep philosophy depending on who's in - in my experience always v. friendly but defo helps if you're good at pool and/or talking bollocks (v. blokey - not one to take a new girlfriend to). "Never get into a round with a Yorkshireman" was another good bit of granny philosophy (and in my experience true) but happy to have my clearly ridiculous regionalist-prejudiced views challenged by any Yorkshire-born round-buying Forumites? Anyway - I'm rambling so off now - ED is a good place (and a bit more joined-up than Forest Hill for nights out)- enjoy.....
  16. Heston is a true artist - I bet Fat Duck re-opens with "vomit and hot flushes porridge". NB Funny how after Heston said he'd be inviting the poisoned customers back for a free meal that complaints went from 40 to 400 almost overnight.
  17. Have had the CPT as my local for many years now but fear it's lost its way in the past few (post Nathan and the aussie invasion!). Definitely needs some management tlc or at least some kind of credible game plan before the inevitable happens. A wholesale rip-off of the Gowlett's vibe, food and booze would be no bad thing. (NB every pub should have at least two grumpy old men regulars - adds character)
  18. The Mums with 3 wheelers and dads with papooses dominate Lordy Lane in a loose kind of fashion Mon to Fri lunchtime. Friday late afternoon the Twenties gather at EDT and slowly force a push further up the drag; The Bishop falls easily. "But how far will they push? How far are they coming?" ask the mums and dads?. The oldies withdraw but emerge, frustrated but unbeaten, early Saturday morning and tut' at an empty beer glass on a wall as they push towards an organic food place (or 'greasy spoon' every now and then but too often). Oldies regain the front pushing towards the butchers and fishmongers. There they gather and discuss tactics "It's the cocktail bar - their Trojan Horse!!". Sat evening the Twenties come back smiling, in force and bring more of their mates from nearby tribes. "The many shall always defeat the few." said Sun Tzu (probably?). Erm - other than that it's fab and most people seem happy.......
  19. Thanks Honaloochie. "Contribution to campaign expenses" in the post to you. Of course the Olympics will slip to 2013. "Who put this velodrome in for you? bloody cowboy whoever it was. We'll have to bish, bosh and bash this bit to make it safe. It'll cost you mind, and I have got other work on so.......2013". Re: dealing with the oldies. Anyone remember Soylent Green? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green
  20. 11. & a small velodrome on the Palm roundabout so that ED is well represented at London 2013.
  21. Peckhamgatecrasher wrote: Reinstate Jah and I'll vote you in as Chancellor of the Bedchamber or wearer of the Garter or somesuch. (Are you sure you want lots of Wibbly Wobbly Wednesdays?) The workers can't be bought off with mere baubles from the King's table - your name has also been added to the "Enemy of the People" list alongside King Jah Lush. Nude day is more spiritual than simply wibbling and wobbling - you're confusing it with naked day (Tuesdays).
  22. Overthrow the monarchy (sorry Jah Lush - don't take the job); Declare ED a nuclear free zone (for old times sake); Introduce a temporary dictatorship of the proletariat for the long term benefit of all ED'ers; Ban all modern dog food to herald the return of white dog poo; Do up the back bit of the CPT; & introduce compulsory nude day every Wednesday come rain or shine.

  24. or bead curtains, mud buttons. Apologies - will stop now.
