I work in west london Portobello rd since 2005, Use to be eclectic and vibrant full of original shops and new ideas. I remember before (less than 10 yrs ago not some 50 yrs ago) stall owners at the local market use to work hard and were very busy. The best of them, the ones with the best ideas, use to work hard for a few yrs hoping to get a chance to open a shop on portobello rd (see for instance punky fish which i don t like for design etc but is a perfect example). Now often in my short lunch break i talk to them as few yrs ago. Before they were telling me about their hopes to get this shop or the other shop and make a step forward in business but also in life; now they tell me (at the best) they are applying to work at the till of some well known supermarket chain or they dream to get a job as security person on some mobile phone company shop.. I remember the rd as it was 5 to 7 yrs ago and it was an unique place all over the world, attracting visitors, locals and tourists in here. I remember I use to have the hot dog guy phone number as it was taking me ages to walk one single block to get some lunch as the street was crowded and business had people queing all the times. At present road is empty on any due day...i don t need to call the guy anymore for my hot dog as it takes me 20sec to walk to him now in a road that looks like any airport in any city...from vodafone to starbucks, burgers chains, coffe chains ..you name it..it looks like walking in heathrow airport but....with nearly no people at all The hot dog man and his son are doing best they can for the son to get a job in tesco or sainsbury in a street and in a world that doesn t pay back if you have ideas but pays back only if you have money and can pay the 150K per year for a 40 sq mt shop in compare to the 30K it was costing 5 yrs ago.. I don t see the choice there anymore.... but still if i had a son i would be happy to listen to his business ideas and support him best I can rather than having a son that sadly hopes to get into some chain supermarket as....it is the only choice... The choice we have is now as for instance in portobello rd once a supermarket decided to pay 100k per year on a 30 sq meter (that use to cost 20K 5 yrs ago) there is not way back. rightly so all the commercial landlords now expect that rent and chains keeps coming in, in a road that was the centre of europe over the week ends and now is sad and empty.. As you can imagine I don t care much about portobello rd but i care my son will have a choice in life... Nothing personal against Mrs Sweaty Betty in person...a part from the very ugly name..:))

  5. ..I am worried but to be honest with You I couldn t come up with any ideas..also i have been away 10 days and have been told weather wasn t that cold to justify the crack.. 6. I live in a loft with 2 roof windows in living room and bedroom Went away for holidays and coming back i found on of the 2 double glaze cracked in both windows... In my bedroom is the internal glass and in the living room is the external one. Called my insurance but they don t cover broken glass apparently (which i find unbelievable as have be paying for insurance and than when you need them....How can they insurance a window without the glass?? a window is mainly glass..but that s another matter..) I d like to have them repaired and don t know where to go: Any recommendations??? I need 2 glasses replaced..:(
  7. It s not that I don t want sweaty Betty (just the name it s a put off for m:)) and i want nike shop instead.. 8. I live in a building with 5 flats in underhill road east dulwich, i bought me flat a few years ago already before we use to run the building ourselves but it has been nearly one year we have a professional management company(name available on request as no recommendable at all) They do pretty much nothing for us...no cleaning communal areas no taking care of garden nothing nothing nothing..all year! Since Before we passed the management to them i have had leak into my small bedroom of course after spending crazy money on renovating the flat. I spent more than i should have in renovations as my idea was to rent the small bedroom to help me out with bills. Previous self made management asked me to wait to fix the leak as they were about to pass all papers to the new management company. The company has been made aware of my problem on the first day they took over and since than very second week for the past 11 months. When they took over we had to pay an expensive bill straight away with nothing else than 15 days notice, no instalments and I still struggle to rent the room as although redone to very high standards, you can see, smell and feel the humidity coming from that leak in my ceiling. I have had a few lodgers and all complained and some left the room earlier than agreed as for this problem. After one year in which the management company did nothing no even cleaning communal stairs etc and after more than 20 requests by email and more than 20 by phone they finally sent me an email today dated 25th-03 but sent today 01-04. I hoped it was about my problem with the leak but it was about new annual service charge to pay for ?1300...once again no instalments and 15 days notice (minus of course the 5 day it took them to sent the email)and...i still cannot rent that room... My questions are: -CAN I REFUSE TO PAY TILL I DON T SEE AT LEAST A SCHEDULED DATE FOR THEM TO FIX THE ROOF??WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO THAT?? CAN THEY TAKE ME TO COURT ETC?? - What could they do if i don t pay? - How can i get rid off them? Who do i need to contact if i want to get rid off them in favour of any other company?? Thanx for reading and sorry if i was bit long and boring but it is getting very frustrating. a part from having to pay big money to them for nothing, I keep losing money and struggling these days with mortgage as i cannot count on renting that room.. Wish all a nice week end vito

  18. I think Se20 area somewhere in that triangle in between Anerley, Elmers end and Norwood junction.. There are some nice residential areas off the main roads and Sth. Norwood C. Park is there round the corner. good transport link at birkbeck station and anerly with possibly the bakerloo line extension coming to elmers end.. Norwood junction with good connection is also there.. Also people are generally cool and nice; it feels like ...it used to feel!!..not only at heart but also for your wallet. You can rent a period conversion 2 bed possibly with garden at ?1150/1250 or buy it at 270/280k Anyone agrees or disagrees?')
