  1. "it is rare to see children being delivered to local primaries by car." Cars (often large) can be seen a-plenty around Goodrich, St Anthony's and Heber primaries when classes start and end. If parents don't want children to be educated in polluted zones they ought not to help cause the pollution in the first place.
  2. I think it will work but wouldn't be too surprised if the original plans (re size/scope) have to change somewhat. Even if that were the case I think it would be a great addition and I'd support it in spirit and in cash. As for the Coal Line, it managed to get its crowdsourcing funds and is, ahead, now full steam ahead: https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/regeneration/funding-opportunities/crowdfunding-pilot-programme/peckham-coal-line-urban

    Diet

Alcohol is calorific, so cutting out your daily tipple could save you at least 1,000 calories a week.
  4. The Langham (Portland Place)
  5. Boris Johnson/Nigel Farage?
  6. I think it is good practice at the very least, but agree that it is in his interest to keep a potential source of smell and even vermin as clean as possible. I mentioned it because it was good to see and wanted to know of other episodes, if any.
  7. A man from the chippy on East Dulwich Road was rinsing down the rubbish bin right outside the shop earlier, presumably because it is used as a doggy urinal and/or gets dirty from the trash missing the slots. Good on him. Any other examples of civic mindedness witnessed around here?
  8. Potager - the one mentioned in the above post - looks like it should be completely finished soon and is a welcome addition. It is a pity that the cafe near to it doesn't do anything to clean up its vandalised front. I think Renata Hamvas has told the owners about the council's free graffiti removal service, so it is strange that it should be left like that. Wonder what the boarded up ex-dentist's between the two will be?
  9. Not sure Mr Khan has the experience, the personality or the savvy to do a good job. Ken and Boris were personalities with lots and lots of on-the-job background. Khan strikes me as dull, a plodder, uninspired and uninspiring. And, to tell the truth, the mayor's job is really just a glorified transport commissioner so all the histrionics about the mayoralty in general and the rather patronising "working class immigrant's son - who is also a Muslim - becomes mayor" is so much froth. Add to that the fact he has to deal with a Conservative government which will be looking to trip him up at any possibility, I don't see his four years really amounting to much.
  10. Goldfinches on Goodrich Road, near to Friern Road. Perhaps this is not so amazing, but I haven't seen them around this area before.
  11. I third what AK said. Anything that fosters resilience and adaptability will stand her in good stead. Take a couple of years out and go to Latin America or Japan or somewhere different, pick up a *good* knowledge of the language and come back much better equipped for work and life.
  12. I think it is a good addition to the hyper local stable and would like to see some harder stories. What do others think?
  13. Given that Gatwick is a new route for BA, it may be cheaper to attract custom. Flights to NYC in July are looking very dear on the BA site. Good luck
  14. BA has a new Gatwick--NYC route so that could be cheaper, as could flying via Dublin on AerLingus.
  15. Remember that the big airlines often do very good deals, even on long-haul routes. A return trip, including all taxes, on BA to NYC can be as low as ?400 sometimes, and you get full-frills on a very established and reputable airline.
  16. Siduhe , Why not - at the very least - speak to the drivers and see what they say? If no joy, take a picture and email it to the bus company. It may move things more quickly than relying on a councillor to intervene, welcome thought that may be.
  17. Maybe it will become - gasp - a chain restaurant, such as Pizza Express, Nando's or Cafe Rouge. Would prefer that to a coffee shop but I think a convenience shop is still more, er, convenient and useful!

  19. Ring Southwark council and ask for the tree department and you may be lucky. (020) 7525 2000 (5000 is the switchboard). Also, ask Cllr James Barber who has a thread on here. If you fall in his ward he will be able to advise.
  20. Pidgeon seems a good choice, mainly because she has been in active opposition for a long time and her knowledge and commitment has been acknowledged by both the main candidates.
  21. The empty tree pit at the Crystal Palace Road bus stop on LL (just before the Sainsbury's) has been replanted. Another, outside Sainsbury's, has also been replanted (I think). It's good news, especially since we had been told that tree pits had to be 1m x 1m for any new planting. (I had written to the tree person at Southwark who said that that rule was very likely to stand even for the replacement of trees in the smaller, standard-sized pits.) Anyone else seen any empty pits newly replanted?
  22. The arm of my glasses has bent. They're still wearable but they fold back badly - the nicely cushioned spring seems to have gone. Where is a good place in SE22/15 to get them repaired? Thanks
  23. This would confirm my sighting (see above) of her at the EDPH one rainy winter's night, complete with black brolly. Remember the cover of "Gentlemen Take Polaroids"? It was an SE22 version of that (in my mind, at least).
  24. You too can marvel at how many items of trash can possibly be jammed onto the green telecoms cabin on your opposite corner, and witness first-hand the never-gone-for-long rubbish heap just a few cautious steps away!
