Do the reading, do the work - what exactly does this mean? Is there an arbiter of how much work should be done and to what level? What do we read? Is there a lending library for this reading? Will there be penalties for not reading the reading? (Subtext - preachy and cliche-ey doesn't win people over - especially those who are harder to reach and convince - to what is very much a necessary cause and one which deserves highlighting and addressing. Trendy, empty, Twitter-friendly slogans don't help; proper signposting to where this knowledge can be gleaned does.)

Annoying words that have cropped up in our language

Lived experience (as opposed to unlived?) - another one of those quasi-academic/pyscho-medical terms that get trotted out by people who think it makes their point of view more valid. -
Are they putting a limit on the amount purchased?

Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms

MarleyLover - best to write to your councillors and MP( https://www.writetothem.com/ )and include name, address, phone number, email, with your concerns. It won't take long and it could make a difference. -

Anyone remember the much-mouthed mantra of "integrated transport system" from Labour (especially Prescott) some 20+ years ago? Maybe the current councillors of all political colours should remember this, not least because it makes sense! -
Great, unless you (not YOU, Rahx3) leave them prone on teh pavement, ready for anyone to trip over and break leg/neck, etc.

Still nothing from DMC, which is usually in touch by early September.

What happens to the cans and bottles that are put in with general waste, as is the case with litter bins? Do they get sorted at the recycling centre or just buried or burnt?

There is a of course a place for street vendors, for pound shops and bargain emporiums, but it doesn't mean that the locale should be allowed to decay in appearance. I hope the buses will mean more attention will be paid to the Lane and that ageing hipsters who profess they love the Lane for its edginess and realness, etc. zzzzz, will recognise it is a space for all people, and that general tidiness and attractiveness doesn't mean sounding the death knell for the trendies. -

Great that it is busy, not great taht it is neglected by business owners and the council and ends up mucky and uninviting. Buses may make it feel less like that, but work is still needed by councillors, officials and local businesses. -

So, to live in a city you have to have semi-deserted main roads that don't allow access to public transport, shop owners who deposit refuse (animal, vegetable) outside their properties and never bother to clean their frontages? It is poorer and more ethnically diverse than much of neighbouring East Dulwich so the authorities just allow it to stagnate, all the while thinking its "edginess" and "authenticity" will attract the trendies. Maybe the trendies came about ten years ago, but they've moved on and Southwark ought to make it a place to attract all kinds of people, by bus as well as e-scooter and fixie bike! -

Sterilised by no means equates to the what should be the essential shifting of the shit that accumulates daily or scrubbing the walls and shutters of scrawl. It needs more care and attention but the powers that be don't believe those who live there or use it are worthy of such common courtesies. -

The DMC system changed and is more cumbersome, I agree. Some of the workers there are lovely, though, once you get through. Only thing you can do is write to them and CC the local MP. -

Even if there are buses, the lane is a dump and nobody - either those in authority or the people who own or manage businesses - wants to grasp the nettle. It is so condescending to let it just stagnate, even decline. I go very early in the day and only when I absolutely need to. It deserves more attention and care, and that does not mean making it trendy for younger people - who, like all of us, don't remain young and who as a demographic are more likely now to live in Deptford or even Catford now that Peckham is no longer deemed with-it. -
Looks a bit tacky but if it gets the right person in the job, fair enough.

I do not excuse the councillors for ignoring the majority view, but the fact that so few of us (yes, that could include YOU), really CBA with local elections. It is widely acknowledged and shown by statistics that a minority vote in most local elections. If we all were to take more of an interest those we vote in will know that they have a wider and more invested electorate and may shape up a bit!

AylwardS - it was extensively reported that only 1 percent of garages had reported shortages (last Friday) so please do not say this was not the case. I agree that stupid, selfish people are to blame but when news actually states in online, radio and TV pieces - quoting official sources - that a tiny percentage of petrol stations were short of fuel and that the big suppliers had plenty of fuel please do not say it is not true.

I don't use them myself but am frequently a passenger and find that the after-care is less good than it used to be. Some cars are dirty, others without charge and others don't close and open as they ought. It lets down a really good service but I agree that on the whole, Zipcar (electric) cars are worth signing up for.

Sephiroth - how do you know for a fact this was a random attack? It?s a possibility mooted by the police but it?s not yet confirmed. (The heinousness of the crime and the grief of those left behind is still intact whichever man - stranger or otherwise - is responsible.)

I think that buses belong on such an important thoroughfare, especially because it has a busy rail station and many shops on it. There?s room for cyclists and pedestrians. I agree that much of the street is unattractive and uncared for and am dismayed that any elected representative would allow such decay to arise, even without a prompt. To leave it without bus access but with litter and vandalism speaks volumes about the councillors and MP, as well as the business owners who likely shut up shop and go home of an evening, leaving the trash and ugly frontages behind them. -
It comes around automatically, a few days before the six-month "anniversary" of your second jab. You get an email and text and can book online or on the phone.

Bag and phone snatchers targeting Dulwich areas

Should is doing a lot of work here. Humans will never eradicate baddies from our midst. To think otherwise is fabulist revery. Right now in this world there are hazards and it is necessary to acknowledge this and adopt ways of avoiding them. This is rational thinking and applies to all and it can exist alongside obvious and necessary sympathy with any victim. -
Wh6 is the crossing still cordoned off with barriers? Has someone forgotten to sign off on this? It took bloody ages in the first place!

Done and dusted at H Hill pharmacy, where a fair few people turned up after I had got there (when tehre were already a handful). Swift and easy, but not impressed by lack of chair at point 2, where they ask you to stand for a few minutes just before they are ready to jab you inside. (I asked the clinician to consider putting a chair there for the people who need to sit, even for a few minutes.) Also, the card they give you is smaller and does not include a name, whcih is likely because it is now all done digitally.
