Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
Nigello replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sterilised by no means equates to the what should be the essential shifting of the shit that accumulates daily or scrubbing the walls and shutters of scrawl. It needs more care and attention but the powers that be don't believe those who live there or use it are worthy of such common courtesies. -

The DMC system changed and is more cumbersome, I agree. Some of the workers there are lovely, though, once you get through. Only thing you can do is write to them and CC the local MP. -
Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
Nigello replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Even if there are buses, the lane is a dump and nobody - either those in authority or the people who own or manage businesses - wants to grasp the nettle. It is so condescending to let it just stagnate, even decline. I go very early in the day and only when I absolutely need to. It deserves more attention and care, and that does not mean making it trendy for younger people - who, like all of us, don't remain young and who as a demographic are more likely now to live in Deptford or even Catford now that Peckham is no longer deemed with-it. -
Looks a bit tacky but if it gets the right person in the job, fair enough.

I do not excuse the councillors for ignoring the majority view, but the fact that so few of us (yes, that could include YOU), really CBA with local elections. It is widely acknowledged and shown by statistics that a minority vote in most local elections. If we all were to take more of an interest those we vote in will know that they have a wider and more invested electorate and may shape up a bit!

AylwardS - it was extensively reported that only 1 percent of garages had reported shortages (last Friday) so please do not say this was not the case. I agree that stupid, selfish people are to blame but when news actually states in online, radio and TV pieces - quoting official sources - that a tiny percentage of petrol stations were short of fuel and that the big suppliers had plenty of fuel please do not say it is not true.

I don't use them myself but am frequently a passenger and find that the after-care is less good than it used to be. Some cars are dirty, others without charge and others don't close and open as they ought. It lets down a really good service but I agree that on the whole, Zipcar (electric) cars are worth signing up for.

Sephiroth - how do you know for a fact this was a random attack? It?s a possibility mooted by the police but it?s not yet confirmed. (The heinousness of the crime and the grief of those left behind is still intact whichever man - stranger or otherwise - is responsible.)

Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms

I think that buses belong on such an important thoroughfare, especially because it has a busy rail station and many shops on it. There?s room for cyclists and pedestrians. I agree that much of the street is unattractive and uncared for and am dismayed that any elected representative would allow such decay to arise, even without a prompt. To leave it without bus access but with litter and vandalism speaks volumes about the councillors and MP, as well as the business owners who likely shut up shop and go home of an evening, leaving the trash and ugly frontages behind them. -
It comes around automatically, a few days before the six-month "anniversary" of your second jab. You get an email and text and can book online or on the phone.

Bag and phone snatchers targeting Dulwich areas
Nigello replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Should is doing a lot of work here. Humans will never eradicate baddies from our midst. To think otherwise is fabulist revery. Right now in this world there are hazards and it is necessary to acknowledge this and adopt ways of avoiding them. This is rational thinking and applies to all and it can exist alongside obvious and necessary sympathy with any victim. -
Wh6 is the crossing still cordoned off with barriers? Has someone forgotten to sign off on this? It took bloody ages in the first place!

Done and dusted at H Hill pharmacy, where a fair few people turned up after I had got there (when tehre were already a handful). Swift and easy, but not impressed by lack of chair at point 2, where they ask you to stand for a few minutes just before they are ready to jab you inside. (I asked the clinician to consider putting a chair there for the people who need to sit, even for a few minutes.) Also, the card they give you is smaller and does not include a name, whcih is likely because it is now all done digitally.

Accessing GP appointments - Link for feedback
Nigello replied to Cora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can go online to book an appointment with minimum effort and little time spent. You fill in all the usual details and then are prompted to write your ailment, etc. You then get a message back saying you have an appointment later that day or the following day. It may not work for all patients all the time but in this case, and in others, I have found it easy and worthwhile (so saying it is ridiculous for one patient doesn't paint the whole picture, however irksome that is for the person for whom it failed). -
I got an email and booked in but not at the same site as the other two jabs (which was the T J Centre).

Electricity and gas prices going up - what will you do?
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in The Lounge
https://green-energy-efficient-homes.com/waste-electricity.html Even with the PC itself turned off, the combined power draw of a cable or DSL modem, a wireless router, and a computer printer sitting idle and waiting for work to do, can exceed 50 watts (about the same draw as one moderately bright incandescent bulb or 4 compact fluorescent bulbs). That might not sound like much but that 50 watts when running continuously through the year works out to 50 x 24 x 365 watt hours, or 438,000 watt hours (438 kilowatt hours). That costs roughly $44 a year ? to keep your computer equipment running 168 hours a week, when you probably only need it running for 10 or 20 hours a week at most. -

You'd think that, but perhaps some don't know the best way to reduce energy use. It may sound silly, but how many know, for example, how much energy a charging phone/laptop or TV set on standby uses, or how much could be saved by turning the radiators down from 5 to 4, etc.? Fuel price increases may push people to find out and economise. -

Back on topic, without the B word, what will YOU do as regards your heating and lighting needs this winter given the current circumstances? (Burning pro- and anti-Brexit documents, perhaps....?) -

SpringTime - I agree with the 23C+ preferences for some people - so wasteful and damaging. Perhaps this episode will kickstart a wave of common sense, if not frugality, which would benefit the planet and people's pockets?
