Try the Dulwich Hill councillors as a first step. Cllr Browning is responsive.
-
It will be years before they reach that height and can be pruned to avoid such problems, I suppose. Also, they may be species that don't reach such height to be an inconvenience. I think a good portion of them are not likely to grow past sapling stage, as that is what happens to a certain proportion of all tube-encased young trees. I still do not know which people are behind the planting of them - council, local green organisation?
-
I would let the Drs. know about this thread. I understand and accept that some inconveniences such as standing outside and talking about one's health just have to be accepted right now but bad training, or lack of it, is nothing to do with C-19 provisions. Receptionists everywhere have a hard job but the best ones take it seriously and make you feel they are on your side, not an inconvenience who also happens to be ill!

And the police don't do anything, despite teh fact there have been accidents, including a death, involving electric microscooter riders...

Thanks for the input re the tiles and longevity of cells, etc. Loads of us could reduce our power usage but don't...

Gail's - no masks on staff - how come?
Nigello replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My point is that discomfort is felt by all, some more than most, but very few people really *cannot* wear a mask, and that includes those with "phobias" etc. Accommodating someone's discomfort is less important than stopping an easily transmissible virus from getting around, and all that entails. It's tough, but not as tough as being on an ICU or in a coffin. (Gail's is not my cup of tea, so I have no idea what they do in there.) -
Good point re context - nobody can ever know that for certain as it is all recalled memory, some of which conflicted with Harry's recollection. Oprah wanted box-office and got it. It wasn't journalism, it was spectacle and reflects badly on the participants. It - the interview - has become like Brexit, ie. a coat hanger for any number of virtues and prejudices, so in that respect it was a success because everyone went away happy, content that what they saw and heard validated their existing beliefs.

Gail's - no masks on staff - how come?
Nigello replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the "I can't wear a mask because I am X, Y or Z" is overplayed. I think it is the fear of what may happen than the reality, which is fair enough as we have never been in such a situation in our lifetimes before. Asthma sufferers have been wearing them, as have those with other lung conditions and have been tweeting about how they are managing easily with a mask, so I would expect an employer to think about the collective responsibility of all of us and push back a little against those who say they must not ever wear a thin, surgical mask. I am sceptical that all the people I have seen not wearing them or saying they are exempt have actually tried to work or take a bus with one on just to see how it works out. (Cue lots of people saying they are all not in those categories...) -
Big St Christopher's open for donations only

Does it take electricals? -
Alex_b, where are you (approxmimately, of course)?
-
Yes, that is a valid point. The thing with this scheme is that it costs significantly less as tehre is the pooling aspect. Installation could be 2.5k rather than 4.5k. It tells you it will take X amount of years to pay back, even if you pay into the grid (and you can send it a provider that is not the same as the one you use, so can shop around for the best payer). It's worth a look, especially if you are working from home more and are planning to stay that way.
-
It carries Mayor of London motifs and has been adopted by lots of other councils, as well as being no-money-up-front. Maybe you know better, so if you do, please tell us all why we should avoid and we may be grateful. Thanks

I offered an electrical item to the Leuko.. place but got an email saying it was not wanted right now.

I think they are narrower in parts, but the upside is more stock and they doors actually close. It used to annoy me when they'd leave the sliding doors open to let the cold out, especially as the CoOp declares itself as more environmentally friendly than other big firms. Go early, avoid the crowds if you are concerned about trolley-clashing but the place has never been that busy.

I think it is nice to see the kids back, but not the parents who fling their arms around each other as if they were not in a pandemic! (Agree with the pavement cyclists, especially those ones who think that guiding their children on their bikes gives them the right to barrel along a narrow footpath!)
-
Yes, and the homes on both sides of Dulwich Village are set at least the width of both lanes, more on the "posher" side, so sound of engines (if they weren't electric/hybrid) wouldn't be much of a problem.
-
...doors Now you are here, has anyone had experience of stripping and then varnishing internal doors (the mock-Edwardian kind, with indented panels). How much is a good price for one; how long would it take a professional; any recommendations?

Micro buses? An every-fifteen-minutes service linking E, N and W Dulwich stations could help, no? I think such small-scale buses would appeal to that very same sense of "community" that is so fashionable nowadays (but is also fetishised and badly mimicked).
-
Yes, especially if it were a hail-and-ride service along Court Lane. If it were only buses and local traffic it wouldn't cause snarl ups and would be more attractive to users.

Perhaps people with ongoing conditions and/or had treatment at a hospital are contacted by that specialist department? It's highlighted again the lack of a central database for all NHS patients. Imagine if there were a way of punching in your NHS No. and finding all your treatments, diagnoses, etc. (even dental). Hell of a task but I think it would save time and money in the long run.

Some firms have special rates for Zipcar, which would make it cheaper. (I don't drive but am sometimes a passenger in them and think they're a good addition, especially the ones you don't have to bring back to the place from which you hired it.)

You could try the RM accounts on social media. Companies tend to be reasonably quick to reply on these platforms. Re deliveries, there was for at least the second week running a delivery today. The postie said illness and the knock-on effects of having to isolate were the problem at the sorting office and that Sunday deliveries are being put on to get rid of any backlog as overtime. At least the RM is doing something as it cannot stop people getting ill and others having to stay at home, as per the rules.

Some useful info related to Southwark, traffic, LTNs etc
Nigello replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have not had any motor vehicle (or even bicycle) for more than twenty years yet I think that putting a CPZ in places far from a rail station, which are used as day-time car parks by some who commute on trains, is real money-grabbing. 41 spaces, for example, in Dulwich Hill looks mercifully small, but sends the message that "we will get you even if you are in a place traditionally exempt from CPZs". It will cause more households to pave over their front gardens, and we all know how bad that is for the look of a street and its ecology. -
I like the new CoOp. A staff member asked how I was finding it and I replied that I liked it a lot. The fridge doors open outwards so there?s much less wastage of cold air compared to the sliding ones of old.
