  1. Less confident? Less confident at what and than whom? The challenge of getting upstairs? Top deck on the 176 is hardly the summit of K2. Sheesh and double sheesh! The gist of your post backs up what I said: people can be selfish and stupid at the same time.
  2. TBF, there is a general reluctance of passengers to "move down inside the bus" or ignore the fact there are "seats available upstairs", so I am glad of the strict voice asking they do so. Next time you hear it, just look and see that there are the usual sub-morons congregating around the doorway/stairs (are they claustrophobic and/or scared of heights?) who refuse to make room for others. Overcrowding is not good, but neither is people being ignorant and selfish.
  3. (You) guys/ Bad boys / Pimp my X/ A cheeky Y and other ukulele-accompanied adspeak cliches (cf Jamie Oliver/Local radio DJs
  4. Neilie - Did you say anything to her or her boss? I expect not. Not much good telling anyone here.
  5. ED station is not great but a walk or bus (or walk and bus combo) to Denmark Hill may be a better option.
  6. Ask the police to get you some smart water, which you dab onto all your valuables and which - if recovered - will show up under a police scan, allowing you to be reunited with your property. If not the police, maybe a quick search of smart water and/or a message to your councillor would work. (Your bottle of smart water contains micro digits which are unique to your and your address.)
  7. Eynella x 4 - still
  8. Lots of pavements in SE22 are uneven and cracked in places, meaning that when it rains only even somewhat heavily, ponding occurs. Just look at the state of the footpaths on the stretch of LL opposite ESPH and you get the picture. (Likewise FHR, Goodrich Road, CPR etc. etc.). Goodness knows who laid them and who signed off on them. Oh well, it's only public money.
  9. Four trees on the left-hand side of Eynalla (as you walk into the park) and plenty dotted in and around SE22. Is it because the drivers of the caged vans are not spotting them, or do they leave them if they are too large? If that is the case, could not the council advise people about the restrictions on recycling trees over a certain size before trees are bought?
  10. Had a PSO call just now offering "smart water". I had seen her knocking on neighbours' doors earlier. If she or another drops by with the offer I'd advise taking it up. (You dab your most valuable items with the water, which contains microscopic digits linked to your personal details - which are not divulged to anyone, she said - and which will appear if the police retrieve your items. She said all retrieved items are scanned for smart water, so it looks like a system is in place.)
  11. Absolutely no point complaining to the Post office Management. I disagree completely. It is much better than banging on about it on an impersonal, virtual community made up of thousands and thousands of posts and comments.
  12. Even the "good" dog owners - the one that scoop the poop - aren't always totally good. Some leave the bags of canine cack on top of the special bins, too lazy to lift the lid. This is exactly what happens on Ryedale, Dunstan's Road end.
  13. Lynne - Why not ask to speak to the office manager, vent your frustration and then ask how you can put your points to someone in control. I understand that letting off steam here and finding out whether "it's not just you" is useful, but it is only useful to you. Letting your comments be known to the powers that be, maybe evening copying it in to our MP, would be much, much more useful.
  14. Thumbs up to Woodstock and thumbs down to all his/her decriers. Letting your dog cack and leaving it for others to walk in is loathsome. People who say "sad" to such interventions say much more about themselves than the people they criticise and mock. Maybe if they slipped and fell on a big pile of oggy-doggy, perhaps even getting some on their wrist and hand as they tried to deflect the worst of the tumble, they'd think differently.
  15. Two had not been collected near me, so when I saw a van with some trees in the back parked up nearby I let the driver know the address. When I came back home about 45' later they'd been taken (but other trees remain in and around SE22).
  16. I think that some of the pavement belongs to each individual business, hence the non-uniform nature. I just think a little bit of joined-up thinking or cooperation between the proprietors could work wonders, but it would need a person to drive it forward from the council. I call upon Renata Hamvas to explore (but if she is not the right councillor, I will stand corrected).
  17. People who say two-thousand-and-xxx. A former R4 announcer would always say twenty-hundred or twenty-o-six as she said it was logical and easier on the ear.
  18. One - the old bookies' - looks almost ready to open. A worker told me (kind of - he didn't really understand me) that it was going to be a restaurant. One of the buildings getting revamped may be a residential property. I am glad FHR is getting better but lament the crappy, poorly-maintained (but large and full of potential) pavements.
  19. It is a nice spot to view them and not at all busy - perhaps a few dozen/score or so, at least that was the case in the past few years.
  20. Forest Hill (and maybe Honor Oak Park, if I remember correctly) -- E Croydon -- Gatwick is easy and cheap, and you can use your Oyster/bank or credit card for about ?8 each way. Alternatively you can go D Hill -- Clapham Junction -- Gatwick Airport for a similar price and avoiding Victoria.
  21. Gesture politics with no thought for its consequences. Agreed: a good idea that's not been thought through/joined up. Welcome to the early 21st C: one's social media profile matters equally as much as what you are really doing or thinking.
  22. i suggest approaching the head librarian or head of department at the council. It's highly unlikely talking about it here will have an effect, unlike your commends actions in the past.
  23. More fool you, Lynne. If you see a problem you can have a go at solving with minimum fuss you really ought to go ahead and do it. That kind of attitude of yours speaks volumes about what is wrong with society. Ask the loud people to be quiet then tell the staff you've just had to do so as they weren't doing anything. You ease your frustration, possibly getting a result and you express your dissatisfaction with the service. If you CBA to do either you'll then carry on feeling aggrieved!
  24. There was also a set of temporary lights earlier this week, so that may have made it worse. I agree that the deliveries seem to flout the yellow lines and I get the impression that they are given leeway by the council. Good luck with getting a response from a councillor.....
  25. US supermarkets used to have baggers but not many of them do now, at least in big cities. I can see that it would help things move along more quickly (resulting in happier staff and customers and perhaps higher turnover) so the idea of having your goods bagged would be welcome to me, especially in the age of "remove item from baggage area".
