  1. A fish tank, such as those taller ones by Bio-Orb (sp?) would be good, or a larger terrarium (with our without Amazonian tree frogs).
  2. Celt - Do let us know what happens to the culprit, if you find out.
  3. Cmapaiging is good but the very best thing that anyone can do is to drive less.
  4. Indicating seems to be going out of fashion.....
  5. Cycling is good, safe cycling is better, but spending money on accommodations for bikes that are more expensive than the cycles themselves is not good. Money spent on upgrades to roads, pavements, crossings, education that benefits as many people as possible - pedestrians, cyclists, passengers and drivers - is much better.
  6. Will it continue to exist after the development there?
  7. If the council sticks to its timetable, then the cycles are due to be removed 4/4 - Tuesday. Hope they leave a No or email address and, in the longer term, provide proper facilities.
  8. Orchestra
  9. Was on a 40, got on at Camberwell (so it had very likely come all the way from Aldgate) and there were six people, including me and the driver, on board, at around 1030. More/larger/reduced-stop buses at peak times and fewer (10-15% fewer) during the day, or not, as an idea to make the service better for most people?
  10. I saw a ladybird (NOT bug!) but not sure whether it was one of the invasive species ones - it was mainly dark with red spots rather than the other way around. Small butterflies (moths?) at ground level on Wimbledon Common yesterday - anyone know which kind they could have been?
  11. Is the rubbish you put in a Southwark public litter bin always recycled, or does it go to landfill?
  12. Saw a kingfisher at the pond/lake in PR Park about seven or eight years ago, on the island in the centre. Let's hope there'll be more.
  13. Not sure what constitutes kindness today. General civility (holding open doors, picking up someone's dropped gloves, greeting the bus driver, etc) doesn't need trumpeting, so what is a good example of what the organisers of NKD think is kindess?
  14. It says on the letter that they could present a hazard, which is rairly reasonable as there is a lot of footfall there - from some very small feet, given the school(s) nearby. The barrier on the school side is on a narrow stretch of footpath (and, to be fair, the hoop is too) and buggies, kids, doggies and sometimes rushing parents could come a cropper if a cycle falls over into their way. I would prefer bikes to be safe and for the council to help cyclists keep their property safe but as long as the bikes are not chained to the school gates/railings, I am happy.
  15. I already asked him whether the site could be a good one for those shelters that some streets have so maybe it will happen. There is one bike loop on one side of the road and that is used often. I don't think the bikes have been abandoned so this post may alert the owners (who may then decided to push for better parking options).
  16. Several bikes have letters from the council attached saying that they will be removed from the railings seven days from 28/03. Cllr Barber is aware. Plenty of cyclists leave their bikes there so I think a proper facility ought to be offered.
  17. Please PM for more details if you think it is yours.
  18. I saw a peacock at Sydenham Hill a few years ago, bold as brass, just strutting down the road.
  19. Hopefully, as cities here become more crowded, there will be a tipping point, caused by day-in-day-out angst that will mean most people will act as thoughtfully as possible in a bid to show best practice eg. not using phones on speaker, not eating smelly food, moving upstairs/down the bus or carriage, just because the alternative would be so hellish. When you see the bored teenager telling another to wrap up their chicken (pre) dinner and turn down their iPod volume on the 171 will be that day.
  20. Homemade used to be the caff (definitely not caf-fay!) next to Barry's on Barry Road, and I miss it. If this new place is the same people behind it, I would recommend it. If not, then I'll give it a go and hope it does well.
  21. Nail polish (and really strong scent) on a bus or train is no good - it stinks and can get on people's chests. Handcream is a bit pungent but not a danger, I would have thought.
  22. The very best we can hope for for the next ten years is a reopening of the Camberwell rail station, which has been mentioned in an official Mayoral document. I very much doubt we will get a tram or even a guided bus (which may not be suitable for the route down from C'well anyway) so, gird your loins and grit your teeth and just walk!
  23. I don't cycle (too scared) but I walk a lot and do not have a car. I pass the E and C area daily and think it is much better than before. As a pedestrian it is easier to cross but cyclists *sometimes* disregard the reds and also - bizarrely - choose to ride on pavements and avoid the lane that wends its way past the church and towards W'minster Bridge. Bad design or just tossers?
