I bought some on Amazon, think they were described as food bags! We decorated with Fireman Sam stickers and tied a luggage label with child's name to the handle.

When we moved into our house there was an ADT alarm system that was out of contract. I contacted them to go on contract and quite honestly the sales person disgusted me with the amount of money they wanted to simply put the existing (working) system onto contract - it was comparable to having an entire new system. I felt I was being taken advantage of as I didn't know the code, they basically would offer no help whatsoever unless I committed to a huge re commission fee in addition to the contract price. Needless to say such 'sales' practice doesn't wash with me. They didn't get the business and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. We are with a small local firm now, although will need to upgrade whole system soon following renovations.

Trunki's - good idea or waste of money?
ClareC replied to KattyKit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My two love theirs, play with them all the time. That said we take them for weekends/ nights away but have back packs for flights - think they would be a bulky pain on a flight. -
They were in the wrong leaving the children alone undoubtedly. I wouldn't say the obvious consequence was abduction though; it was a locked apartment (worse in terms if fire risk)but you don't expect a random stranger to have a key to your apartment. Arguably they could have been asleep in the other room and she could have still been taken. More risk to the abductor but still possible.

Wanted: House to rent for 6mnths in Whitstable, July
ClareC replied to Steph's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Maybe extend your search to Tankerton, it's a stone's throw away and nicer IMO as not as well known. -

Ludoscotts recommended Bernina to me. They are so solid they are near impossible to break. I managed to get on second hand on ebay, it's very easy to use and seems bomb proof. They hold their value well so you may need to shop around. Ludoscotts, there is a chap here that services Bernina's, come and visit :)

Irritant Dermatitis & Breastfeeding
ClareC replied to Knomester's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sounds awful :( I haven't experienced this but do suffer with sensitive skin so can sympathise. I haven't seen the other threads so apologies if this already suggested, have you considered expressing and bottle feeding? -
London attractions - heads up to parents
ClareC replied to Crokes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Did anything ever cone if this? Were the group of adults found? Really frightening. -
I had a ZX Spectrum 48k too. Remember the tape recorder loading and squeaky sounds - and the dismay having waited ages for it to load only for it to crash and need to be repeated. I remember a game where you were a barman serving drinks - if you were not quick enough the punters got violent! I also remember Trapdoor which was great but never got very far, plus a game I think was called Booty which involved exploring a pirate ship and collecting things. All time favourite at my cousins house was chuckie egg! My neighbours had a commodore with cartridges - far more high tech! I moved onto a sega mega drive and played LOADS of Sonic the Hedgehog!

Ours has a button near the floor of the drivers door where the seatbelt mount is ie seatbelt edge of drivers door rather than pedal edge.

Kitchen extension ? To utility room, or not??
ClareC replied to mooncake's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you have the space I would say definitely, if to add one is a bad use of space elsewhere I would say no. Very useful to have but not at the expense of living space if it's one or other. Love the picture of the laundry cupboard above. :) we had one in our old kitchen with tumble dryer above washing machine, was great :) Only downside was noise, and once where the tumble dryer needed the reset button pressed - button was at back which was very hard to get too!!! -
Continuing the awesome kitchen / which work top theme, I wondered what the thoughts are on flooring? Our extension is at floor level so far, currently the underfloor heating is all in place with concrete on top. I "think" I want a natural stone floor, large irregular sized slabs that are creamy in colour - not uniform colour (no idea what material this is so need to research). My current thinking is to have solid floor all the way through with the exception of the living room which is currently carpeted. We have 3 dogs and two children so thought this would be the easiest way to keep it all clean. Do you think this would be too much? Any recommendations on type of stone (or other material) and good suppliers? Going to need to buy quite a large quantity if doing most of downstairs the same. Also, any thoughts on cream? Does it show the dirt? I've had a black slate floor before which although lovely showed all the dirt immediately, quarry tiles were good for keeping clean but I def want something flagstone sized..... Any ideas, suggestions, experience greatly received :) Thank you Clare

We had to have fire doors as in they are much thicker, they didn't have to be self closing though. The rule about fire doors excludes kitchen and bathrooms too - or at least it did, Southwark, @2008

I went for granite first time round, black with a bit of sparkle. Nowhere near as hard wearing as your led to believe and shows up marks so you spend your whole time wiping it. Second time around I went with oak, looked lovely, but high maintenance! Third time lucky (I hope) and I am erring towards quartz..... Great thread, watching with interest...... :)

Not > cheap though...maybe on ebay? I second these, my kids still have them now. Worth mentioning croc sizing is small, you need one size larger than their normal size as recommended in the Croc shop.

I second the more info on the insinkerator...... Where does it all go? Why is it better than the food scraps box?

Getting pregnant while breastfeeding?
ClareC replied to Iggy13's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Happened unintentionally for me; fell pregnant the first week baby one started solids ie 6 mths. Given she was exclusively BF up until that point and it's not like they eat much in the way of solids in week one it's definitely possible. My periods hadn't returned at that point either. 15mth Age gap was tough for a couple of years but lovely now; they are 4 and 3 now. Good luck x Edited to add I continued bf number one until over 12 months - weaned her off as didn't like the idea of feeding 2, -
Ooh will look into the insinkerator :) What is the benefit of the wine fridge? Believe me I like wine (a lot) but I would struggle to get through enough to warrant a dedicated fridge on your acreage night :) We will have a day room off the kitchen (almost same room as large gap between the two which could be closed if required) which will have sofa's / TV etc. My plan is for the island or be large and seat 6 comfortably so we eat in the kitchen easily but then are more inclined to eat in the dining room for meals we all sit together / when friends are round etc. It's exciting all this planning but deciding on where to put doorways when you haven't even planned your kitchen is hard!

Resurrecting this thread Sarahew to find out what you went with in the end? I'm going through the same now and having to work out what I want before the kitchen is even built! Had a kitchen man round yesterday, he recommended quartz over granite as it's tougher. Builder doesn't recommend granite as children can damage with their heavy handed putting cups down etc. Anyone have quartz? Thoughts? What gadgets are good? I fancy a boiling hot tap and water softener but can't think of anything else..... Wine fridge nice but probably not really necessary as when would you drink that much in one go other than a party? I'm erring towards an island which you can sit at rather than a table (no stuff dumped on it and no need to clean under the table) Also considering an induction hob - thread on here seems to recommend

OMG that is just mad! And there was me wondering whether a third May be one too many! How does anyone afford 17 kids? The food shop must be ?500 pw alone!
