PET/IUGR anyone screened positive in pregnancy? AdvicePlease.
ClareC replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There was a surprise internal scan added to the usual 22 week external scan :-S It was from that it was picked up. From what I understood the measurememt is something to do with blood flow / pressure in the placenta. It wasn't explained in laymans terms! There is barely anything on this online, what there is seems to be research papers etc from Kings and a hospital in Athens. I know they are researching pre eclampsia as I gave consent for them to take extra bloods etc to help with the research. I am beginning to think this must be something new and part of the research given the lack of information / knowledge there seems to be on it - and that I am not demonstrating any of the usual pre eclampsia signs. It seems this is a measurement being used to ring fence certain people, a small percentage of whom are expected to suffer with Pre eclampsia. The Sonographer assistant had to go off and check what the cut off measurement was, it wasnt something they knew off hand. Fortunately ( I think) I was dead on the cut off measurement of 1.6 (whatever that is!), 1.3 being what most would score. Midwide didn't seem at all phased or concerned by it and the Sonographer did tell me not to worry (easier said than done!!). -
PET/IUGR anyone screened positive in pregnancy? AdvicePlease.

Spoken with my midwife who didn't seem concerned at all. She was amazed that having received this result KIng's did not even take my blood pressure - which today was normal as has so far been the case. It would be great to know if anyone else has experienced this but I think at this stage I will just be thankful for the extra care I receive as a result! -
Has anyone been screened positive for this? How does the scoring system work and what is a "normal" score? I know 1.6 is the cut off score for being deemed high risk but what did this mean and what is the statistical risk of it being an issue? Is there anything can be done to avoid this, reduce the risk? I have looked this up on the internet and all seems rather scary :-( PET (Pre eclampsia) is bad enough but seems manageable ie it should be picked up if you get it, IUGR seems far more concerning - my 22 week scan was all fine as far as the baby is concerned by I scored 1.6 in this test so Kings have put me down as high risk (midwife apt every two weeks, another scan at 28 weeks). Other than being told I am borderline and that not everyone high risk will go on to develop these and those that do only a few will have them seriously I wasnt given any information / reassurance etc :-( I have a midwife appointment this morning so will chat with her, concerning though :-(

OMG I am due in Jan and already worried! Why exactly are elective ceasarians frowned upon so much? Sound a sensible solution having read some of the stories on here :-( Congratulations Heidi on the birth of your gorgeous son, I hope you are feeling a lot better really soon :-)

Do you have the link?

FOI request re reception admissions (Heber)
ClareC replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you :-) If as the Crow flies Heber definitely closer!! I am between the Castle and Landcroft too and Heber is probably less than 100m as the Crow flies! Are Heber and Goodrich both good schools? We hope to be out of London before we have to worry about schools but it's good to know the situation as you never know what is round the corner! -

Are things really that bad? I live on Goodrich Road and am pregnant with my first, I kind of thought Goodrich School would be a foregone conclusion...... although I am the LL end of Goodrich so maybe Heber closer. How do they measure the distance? -
Where is the nearest clean pleasant swimming pool - am finishing work next week to go on maternity leave and would like to try swimming a few times a week. Is there anywhere nice locally? Ive heard the pool on Goose Green isn't clean. :-(

ClareC replied to Bishberro's topic in The Family Room Discussion

That's great thanks, ironically the North Lakes more convenient as we will be driving back from Scotland! Thanks all :-) -
Thoughts on pre-natal exercise classes needed pls
ClareC replied to nylonmeals's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would definitely be interested in any pregnancy excercise classes - is it just the Jags one's or are there others on offer? -
That's quite a bargain, I will have a look on there, thanks :))

hmmmm the lack of pain relief is of concern! Do you automatically get shown around the maternity unit / offered a tour or do you have to just call and ask? SO far ive not really been told anything..... :-(
-
Thanks Pickle :-) I looked on the Kings website and there doesnt seem to be any information at all, it sounds as though its unlikely to not be available - although still the luck of the draw! I know in some area's there is a "booking" system, which seems odd as who knows when they will go into labour!!! I have a while yet but the idea of birth still terrifies me :-( Water birth seems (I may be mistaken here) to be the least painful.....

Does anyone know if Kings has this facility and whether its over subscribed or not? Would you recommend it? Thanks Clare

Thats great thanks Leanne, it would be good to see one - which model do you have? See you at the fitting :-)

Sounds like baby monitors are far more interesting than first anticipated.... I particularly like the wine use and the messaging;-)
-
Which sensor pad do you have Vickster? It's funny isn't it how baby monitors are the norm these days yet we certainly never had them as kids (and survived). I want one for my only sanity really, to stop me keep checking all is OK and being paranoid :-$
-
Thank you, there seem to be so many to choose from :-S

Which is the best to get? I am liking the idea of the sensor pad one's but are these acually the best one's to go for and if so which one? Thanks Clare

Wasteland by colourful flats just before Elephant & Castle
ClareC replied to ClareC's topic in The Lounge
They were definitely there this morning on my way to work! Always gone by the time I am on my way home ..... part timers ;-) -
This morning as I went down Walworth Road on the bus towards E&C, the wasteland by flats was a hive of activity, busses, trailers etc. Looked like something may be being filmed there. This seems to happen fairly regularly, is this just a popular filming location or is there a particular show regularly filmed there.... or am I entirely wrong and its something different altogether?

Term assurance a much cheaper option than life given that life will definitely pay out (hence the high cost) whereas term may or may not. Depending on your circumstances and reasons for wanting the insurance term may be the better (certainly cheaper) option.
