Too late for me........ I have been following this thread from the beginning but having been at the pregnant but not telling anyone stage couldn't post until recently. It has certainly been an eyeopener! Amusing, informative and down right scary! Like EmmaG the expressing machine caused much nervous laughter as did the funny pants!! Latest tip I have picked up from this is that I must diarise getting my hair cut and coloured a few weeks before the due date whilst I still care about such trivialities ;-)

OMG are you sure this thread should not be renamed "Top tips for those considering having a baby"

Camberwell Grove is lovely, that said, having lived in both Camberwell (not CG ) and ED I wouldn't hesitate to say ED every time!

At the same time, I don't think it's > right to judge people that advocate it. > > *puts on tin hat* Thank you, exactly the point I was making! If I got in trouble at school the threat of my parents being told meant I knew I would be in a whole lot more trouble when I got home, getting in trouble with the police was unthinkable!! I remember a school friend of mine took up shop lifting aged about 8, I wouldnt go near a shop with her when I realised!! Keef..... I too rememeber the bathroom being the place to leg it too! I am not saying parents should or should not smack, I am saying that it used to be the norm and didnt do any harm (not talking about child beatings here)! I don't agree that it should become un PC! I don't have children myself and have no idea how (when i do) how I will choose to discipline them - I guess it all depends on the individual child and what works with them!

The country has gone crazy! My parents smacked me as a child as was the norm in the 70's / 80's. It was certainly not violence but dicipline and quite honestly it worked! The worst threat of all was "wait til your dad gets home!" My parents are decent non violent people whi genuinely wanted the best (not in a material way) for their daughters and made sacrifices to ensure we had the childhood we did. I remember the headmaster at junior school had a cane too, I never knew him to use it but quite honestly the knowledge it was there was enough. Funny how since it became non PC for parents to smack and for schools to have cane's the discipline of the kids today seems to have gone to pot! I honestly do not believe in violence against anyone children included but if a parent chooses to discipline via smacking, provided it's not in anger then I don't see the problem. Didn't do me any harm and I certainly had respect for my parents / teachers / policeman etc something that is rather lacking these days!

My bank card has been "compromised"....a warning
ClareC replied to FatherJack's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had my card cloned about a year ago, took around a month to get my money back!! Nowdays my card is entirely unreliable! More often than not when I use it it's declined!!!!! Really irritating! -
I don't think there are any "bad" roads. In terms of safety, i think its a case of looking at each house and considering what it would be like getting home late at night - ie how close to the main roads, well lit etc. As you mentioned, crime is low in ED but it is still prudent to be careful and use the same amount of common sense you would anywhere. I am on Goodrich which works well for me (and I have never felt unsafe), I have the Barry Road buses a couple of minutes in one direction, the LL buses a minute in the other direction, I can get to both Dulwich park and the busy part of LL in less than 10 minutes and it takes me 15 minutes to walk to the station! In a perfect world the station would be 5 minutes closer (and go direct to town with no stops as the crow fly's - oh and not have packed commuted time trains) but then unless it was the station that moved the park would get further...... so actually on balance it's pretty darn good! Oh and we have a very friendly corner shop that sells pretty much everything within a minutes walk!
