  1. Just had a text from my Dr asking me to make an appointment to have one as they now have them. I am in the priority list as I am pregnant and asthmatic. My gut feeling is not to. This is based upon the lack of testing, actual risk and that the vaccination is based upon the normal flu jab which although I have had in the past every year up until now, is not given to pregnant women. Wondered what everyone else's views are. C
  2. Hiya, I have ridiculously sensitive skin so know what a pain this can be!! Any idea what the cause is? Avoiding the irritants really is the way forward, unfortunately its a prevention rather than cure condition although it is something that tends to get better with age and can be grown out of. I saw a dermatologist and was prescribed diprobase cream - its basically a rich moisturiser cream with no added scents etc. It is great at preventing breakouts. For some reason it took me seeing the specialist before I got it on repeat prescription but subject to it being suitable for babies ask the Dr for some - should help prevent this happening again. Oilatum is also good for baths and can be bought at the chemist - careful though it will make her really slippery!! Again check its suitable for babies. Other than that you need to stop her scratching at it - mits will be the only way (ive even resorted to this myself in the past!!) Good luck
  3. I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant too, due a week after your partner. Up until a few days ago didn't have much of a bump at all! Suddenly I have turned into a heffalump! Basically the baby was laying upright (standing position) beforehand back to back with me - very painful on my ribs but complimentary on the figure ;-) the bump is now lower and huge - I think she must have turned hence me looking far larger!! Ive not read anywhere that size of bump effects due date, too many other factors. If the baby is bigger than the norm the due date can change BUT this happens early on in the pregnancy not at this stage. The midwife checks the size of the baby itself at the midwife appts. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Are you under Kings? If so, they check if your likely to deliver early at the 22 week scan! Not sure if this is something they always do but I had the extra scan and I suspect your partner would have too given our due dates are so close. Good luck :-) Clare
  4. I think this is the first thread I have read where the opinion is unanimous! Didn't even know this path existed, certainly sounds like it needs some lighting and patrol!!
  5. Hiya, at your stage in pregnancy risk is to you not the baby. Your immunity is lower than usual so you are more susceptable to food poisoning, hence the advice not to eat things that are a higher risk of food poisoning. In the first three months, the risk is that food poisoning can cause miscarriage ie a serious risk early on but far less so as the pregnancy progresses. I am 7 months too and although still careful nowhere near as much so as I was earlier on!
  6. And if you apply to the closest and don't get in do you really get sent to the othe side of Peckham? That would make it impossible to work!!! 3 miles in London is 1 hour plus travel!! Thanks Iamyamyam for your tip, will take a look at that.
  7. My 12 week scan appointment was 3 1/2 hours late, the 22 week 3 hours late.......... no emergencies there! I had another scan last week and was in and out withing half hour - was amazed!!!
  8. How close do you need to live to a school to be sure you will get a place there? I am a few years off having to worry about this but having read the thread it sounds as though the problem isn't going away any time soon! I am currently 200m from Heber and 300m from Goodrich - this is according to google map walking directions not as the crow flys! As the crow fly's Goodrich is probably the same distance but Heber would be 100m max. Do I need to start planning my escape to the country master plan!

  10. My friend says that vicks on the soles of the feet works miracles.......... worth a try!
  11. Thanks everyone, I think I will definitely be giving this a go! Baby due in January so will come along June!!! Seems ages away!!
  12. Locale worth a mention, Ive alwasy had good service and food there. They do winemakers dinners which too which are really good.
  13. As Espelli says Police badges are dark leather wallets slightly bigger than a travel card wallet. They open book like - longer "spine" edge on the left (rather than top like a travel card). Once open the badge is on the left (metal) and there is a photo ofthe officer on the right. That is what Kent Police warrant cards look like, presume Met one's not dismiliar. I think asking what station they are from and calling that station is the best bet!
  14. My friend successfully used this with her two boys and highly recommends it. I bought a book and it all makes perfect sense but I havent seen it advertised in the area. Are there any classes? Has anyone tried this? Book recomends starting at 6mths although says you can start earlier - you just wont get a response until at least 6 months. I have some time yet.... baby not yet born!!
  15. Where are the results from the traffic survey? I looked on the website mentioned but couldn't find them
  16. This is all so depressing....... is it really that bad? I am 6mths pregnant, havent put a huge amount of weight on so far so thought it would be OK :-(
  17. This is all new to me... I am a few years away from needing to worry, but exactly how do you work out what is / isnt a good school? I know Ofsted isnt a good indicator. From reading this Goodrich and Heber seem popular, on what basis? Also, are there any decent secondaries in the area (state)?

They looked at cervix length to determine chances of early delivery (all fine there, expected to be full term) but also there was something to do with blood pressure in the placenta - This is despite my blood pressure being normal, no protein evident in urine and all scans/ blood tests etc coming out fine. I think it may well be linked to the research they are conducting - I am not as concerned as I initially was and am focussing on the bright side, extra scans / midwife appointmemts :-)
  19. Just because you can afford private doesn't mean it would be your preference.......
  20. That's great thanks:-) Applespider, where did you go for your alarm? Was it expensive? I have been thinking about getting one. I have two big dogs which (hopefully) are a deterrant in themselves, would quite like an alarm too especially given I am off work at the moment pregnant - dont fancy coming across a burglar!!! Does anyone have the number for the safer neighbourhood team handy?
  21. Is there anywhere locally that supply and fit these precautionary measures? I know there is a security firm on LL - does anyone know if they undertake fitting of London Bar's etc / provide general advice on existing security / how to step it up?
  22. If only they all did! Unfortunately even those that do only very shallowly bury which is often worse as you then don't see it until it's too late :-( Very harmful too especially for pregnant women (more so than dog excrement!) Excrement of any kind in a park, street, garden etc is unpleasant, unfortunately there is no magic solution and starting a witch hunt against dog owners (the vast majority of which do pick up) is not the answer. Deal with the people who don't pick up on an individual basis!
  23. It is those that pick up that will be penalised. Whose to say those that don't will even pay attention to any byelaws!!! Happy for more prosecutions and owners noses to be rubbed in it, think the same should apply to cats excrement too though ;-)
  24. I have been here 2 1/2 years and feel quite happy walking at night here - I do tend to stick to LL rather than the backstreets and wouldn't use an ipod / mobile, but then I would use the same precautions anywhere. I have never felt unsafe here but am aware of my surroundings and ensure I do not stick out as a target! Welcome to ED :-)
  25. I suspect if I was with any other hospital I would have just been given the all OK scan results!
