just remembered another...... The Constant Gardener! Agree with Trainspotting too There was one I watched a couple of years ago with Jennifer Anniston in called Railroad / off the rails or something like that, that was really good - although quite shocking and not the type of film you expect of JA.

I went to Morocco with some friends and the locals called us "Fish and Chips" damn cheek! Another favourite was "lubbly jubbly! and the personal favourite "Charlies Angels"! twas all said on jest and no offence taken........... still not keen on being called "Fish and Chips" though! -
I used to live in hampshire in a house backing onto fields... all very nice but the mice would all come into the loft in the winter, party party and then leave the following spring! The council came round and put down some blue stuff which apparantly poisons them but indoing so makes them really thirsty - the theory being that they go outside and die. We didnt get any bodies / smells and the problem went so must have worked! I asked the mouse man how to prevent it happening again, the answer that I couldnt!!! All houses have gaps in the eaves / roof space and it only requires one the thickness of a pencil for them to get in! Fortunately they stayed in the loft / eaves and never ventured in the house - think that was because of the the dogs though! When I first moved to London the house I lived in historically had mice every so often, none there when I moved in with the dogs but when we left the mice came back and partied!! My house mate woke up to find them running around his bed!

When I was about 13 I watched a film called Witchboard...... really freaked me out! Also, even younger (and far too young to watch such a film) my friend and I were being babysat and the babysitter (not that old herself) let us watch Audrey Rose which had me scared to go to bed for ages!! I agree Jeepers Creepers is dead scary for the first half and then turns silly.... I actually found the first Scream film quite scary...... maybe I am just a wimp ;-)

How long are they staying? How good friends are they?

I make this journey up to three times a week, by far the best route is ED station to LB station, Jubilee line to Baker Street and then Bakerloo to Paddington The Jubilee / Bakerloo change is dead easy, just across the platform. I catch the ED to London Bridge train at 7.20 am and at Paddington between 750 and 8am.

I went on a hen weekend a few years back and the organiser had arranged for us all to go to a club in Bristol on the Saturday night. We had "VIP" passes so could access the segregated part. I popped into the loos and shortly afterwards had someone (plus friends) hammering on the door - there were only a few cubicles and they were intent on getting in one asap. I came out to see a girl lurch towards the corner of the room vomitting (pleasant) only to realise the girl banging on the door was Charlotte Church!

Have you found her? I hope you do....

That reminds me of being in Tignes skiing, a bit worse for wear in a bar and the guy in "My Family" and the BT ads ("Kris" someone) happened to be there.... We were in a large group and he ended up joining the group (hard not too, given the number in the party and size of bar) my friend said to him "arent you the chap in 2.4 children" He was most unimpressed!

Communism seeks to establish a classless, stateless society with common ownership. Organised to produce according to socially managed goals. This is acheived by studying economic activity and its relationship with the social life. It is an alternative to the problems associated with capitalist economies, one of which is being discussed on this thread - hence the reference.

My friend and I suggested to Graham Bell that he and my ex compete to see who could do the most turns in 60 seconds on that ski machine he promotes at the Ski Show. We didnt realise who he was at the time, just thought he was some chap manning the stand. We were quite insistent and wondered why my ex, normally keen for a challenge refused point blank and seemed keen to leave the stand asap !

This thread certainly seems to have some strong feelings and a rather pro communism stance. Yes, there is a housing shortage in the UK. Preventing people buying to let isnt going to change that. If there were no properties purchased to let, the demand for houses is still larger than the supply so the prices will still be high albeit maybe not quite as high given the slight decrease in demand. There will still be and will always be people who cannot afford / do not wish to buy - with no rental properties available where do these people live? There is very limited social housing and I cant see workers from abroad being eligible for it even if there were enough, which in term would lead to corporations buying houses to house their seconded execs / temporary workers, which in turn would increase demand and then prices...... and so the cycle continues! On a more local stance, London is the major financial institution in the world, its a small place with limited housing. There will always be a high demand for property both in the rental and purchase market. Buy to let is just another form of investment. Putting savings into the bank whether it be in a savings account, ISA, bond or investing on the Stock exchange is no different.... other than you having less control as to where the money ultimately goes / what it funds!

I think it comes from the word Plebian - as in Spartans and Plebians. Plebians were the underclass whereas Spartans the super class.
