If you have no will then the intestacy laws apply, cant remember the exact figures but the first chunk goes to spouse if you have one (even if your separated), then children, then parents, then siblings........... gradually gets remoter. Cant remember where grandchildren fit, think its after children but before parents! Its only when the relatives are exhausted that the state gets anything.

The mortgage may be in both names but is the house itself (ie the deeds as registered at the Land Registry)? If the deeds to the house are in both names is it held as Joint Tenants or Tenants in common? Did they buy the house together? If so was this when married or before? Who paid the deposit? If both in what shares?
  3. Thanks *Bob* and Peckhamgatecrasher. Will give that number a call and can sound as though I know what I am talking about ;-)
  4. I just had the most bizzare experience! It was like a wind up...... My combi boiler produces significantly hotter water when the heating and hot water is on as opposed to when just the hot water is on. In addition, when the hot water only is on the radiators are slightly warm. Its not been a problem as the boiler works, however I am currently home with a stinking cold and decided to use the time to organise a boiler service since although its not technically broken it would appear to not be working as it should. I did a google search of the boiler model and came up with a website offering Baxi boiler repairs and servicing. I called and enquired as to the price of a service and was asked by a rather terse Scottish lady if anything was wrong with the boiler. I explained the above to which I was told they only service perfectly working boilers and I would need a repair prior to service. I explained that it did actually work, but was again advised that a repair was necessary first. Upon asking for a price I was told they charged ?130 plus VAT an hour plus parts and ?130 plus VAT for the subsequent service. I thought this hourly charge quite steep and was dubious that it could be an open cheque book so tried to get an indication on total cost to which she became very stroppy and quite rude. I appreciate that they do not know what is wrong (if anything) but is it really so wrong to be asked an idea of the likely cost prior to ordering a service. Having got off the phone and called another much friendlier place, I couldn't quite believe how rude this lady had been at what I believe to be a sensible line of enquiry. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
  5. I had my phone snatched off me by a guy on a push bike in Camberwell, Flodden Road at the roundabout end. The guys whom I was sharing a house with all had similiar experiences (some injured some not) in the same spot (which I discovered after the event!). The Met were really good, drove me round some scary places looking for the guy, also suggested meeting me at the tube at a similiar time of night a few weeks later so we could look for him again. Never did get caught to my knowledge.
  6. You cant go wrong with icebreaker, they are fantastic. You want to take layers, I usually ski in a Helly Hanson base layer, icebreaker mid layer, windproof fleece and then my ski jacket. I then keep an extra base layer and down gillet in my rucksack for extreme cold :-) I would recomend buying silk inners for your gloves, these are avbout ?10 in Snow and Rock / outdoor shops.
  7. I didnt catch a cold until my colleague brought in come cleaning hand gel specifically for colds for us all to use! Its my first this year though so cant complain :-)
  8. hmmmmmmm ;-)
  9. that may explain it...... ;-)
  10. If that were the case they would fit in well ;-) I think they will be tucked up in bed by 2am, unless of course they get lost looking for the chunder bus stop ;-) I think I have been fortunate to date in my 176 experiences..... I did see a chap asleep but still eating his bag of chips once, I suppose that may have been a near chunder experience ?!?!
  11. And to think I was going to recommend the 176 to my parents as the best way to and from the west end on Saturday ........ hmmmmm what time does it turn into the chunder bus?
  12. The one next to the beauty salon........ cant remember than name and want to book an appointment Thanks Clare
  13. I keep ordering them.......... as fast as they arrive they dissapear again! Same with the bag for paper! I don't see how they can fine someone without proof its them that are misusing their rubbish bins!
  14. And where exactly does upper southern start?
  15. This is ridiculous, I cant believe the negativity unfairly directed towards Kai for being a landlord. The law is actually very pro tenant, if Kai has lawfully evicted a tenant it would have taken a few months minimum and considerable expense to Kai. Needing to take such steps is a risk of renting a property out, however there is an automatic assumption that landlords are wealthy individuals, profiteering from those less fortunate and choose to be in that position. Not all landlords make a profit, with current house prices rents are lower than mortgages despite the relatively low interest rates. Whether Kai is in profit or not is irrelevant, it is Kai's right as a landlord to gain lawful repossesion of his property, for him to do so, the tenant would have been given more than reasonable notice and the clearly for Kai to have had to go down the road he ended up the tenant chose to ignore the notice and stay put. It is incorrect to assue landlords choose to be landlords, people's circumstances change and often it can be a more sensible option renting a property out than selling. Even if Kai is choosing to be a landlord and making a huge profit then these are not reasons for him to get this grief! He has not done anything wrong from what has been said.
  16. Relative newcomer...... moved to ED in February, so 7 months and 12 days :) I was in Camberwell for 5 month's prior to moving to ED(scary!) and prior to that was in Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Kent! *waits outrage from the pro Camberwell posse* Nothing against Camberwell, amazing houses ...... just let down by certain locals as I discovered last Christmas when one of them took a liking to my mobile so relieved me of it :(

  21. I have VM installed, TV, Phone and Broadband. I had to wait a few weeks for installation, however, there were no problems with the actual installation, the chaps that did it were helpful and tidy. The service has been great ever since. I used to work for VM and can honestly say they are worth sticking with and as a company can be trusted, they are well aware their customer service needs imporvement and are actively working towards that. It has already improved and continues to improve.
