  1. I guess that makes sense. Personally I do not think that a hard lockdown is justified (i.e. only going out for food, medicine/treatment, or to work if you're a key worker). But I do think some sort of further restriction is probably inevitable.
  2. If you're still out and about and shopping, I would just buy something reasonably small and flatt-ish (bars of chocolate, packets of Cadbury's mini eggs, etc), that will fit into a small jiffy bag, and drop it in the post box. (look up the correct postage rate beforehand of course).
  3. Hmmm... but if you think a full lockdown is necessary, why were you in the park? Sorry not trying to be a dick, just want to understand your proposal.

Seems like a reasonable compromise. Most people should be able to get their shopping done outside of those hours. Yes there will be keyworkers travelling after 7pm but honestly, it's very very quiet out there in the evenings and it's easy to give each other space.
  5. I understand their concern (and frustration)... but.. it's a bit much, isn't it??!!
  6. As if repeatedly plugging "justinscafe" wasn't bad enough... using the word "hubby" should be the final straw.
  7. It is a nice idea. I think in reality it is likely to need a certain amount of staffing.
  8. monniemae Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > get yourself furloughed. But that's not necessarily the employee's choice, is it? Don't get me wrong, we furloughed our Nanny, and really using outside childcare should be an absolute last resort. But if you're unable to come up with any other option that would work for you, and you have a demanding/unsympathetic employer and you're worried for your job security, then I can understand the dilemma. But if I was in that position, I'd be looking for a new job as soon as possible..
  9. So sad to hear relatives of forum regulars have passed away... really hammers home the impact of this terrible virus. I was under the impression that if you're showing symptoms, then you should self isolate for 7 days. If you just think you may have been exposed, then it's 14 days (because it can take that long for symptoms to show).

  11. The government certainly seem to think that immunity is important. Talking about easing restrictions once we can prove that parts of the country have achieved a certain level of immunity. Although I understand that we're still in the early days of understanding how post-infection immunity develops, and how long it lasts.
  12. I can give you an old one.. probably no good to you, but it's 1920 x 1080, 23", I think VGA only (no HDMI).
  13. I think with these sorts of things (as I realised when I commented on an earlier thread asking for volunteers in a local convenience store), they are probably well intentioned, and people should probably just decide for themselves whether they want to take part, rather than arguing about it.
  14. mako Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you have to jog, do in parks. I don't jog in parks, I jog on pavements and roads at night, when almost nobody is around. On a 1 hour run, I will only see a small number of people - most of whom are out voluntarily, exercising or dog walking. You see each other a mile off, and I just run into the road to give them space. I'm acting responsibly (but not everyone does). I would not try to make excuses for stupid behaviour such as running along Lordship Lane during the day. You seem to have softened your stance ever so slightly since your "literally no excuse" comment.. so at this point I shall bow out of the argument.
  15. hellosailor Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don?t think you?ve read the rest of the thread. > No one is suggesting that people doing what you?re > doing should be apologetic. I don't agree, someone is saying "there's no excuse if you have a garden". Which I find absurd. It's all about avoiding crowded areas and times of day, and giving everyone plenty of space.
  16. Gingergossip Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So Joggers. How about you start respecting a 2m gap? I always step into the road when passing someone, to make sufficient gap. But plenty of people coming the other way (both runners and walkers) make no effort at all, even to shift slightly to the inside of the pavement. It really annoys me.
  17. I go out jogging in the evening after 8pm. Hardly anybody about, eerily quiet, and the only people you do see are either out for exercise too, or walking their dog. The roads are empty, so if you do see someone coming your way, it's easy enough to just run in the road and give them a couple of meters space. So... I think it's safe and I'm unapologetic TBH.
  18. I kind of wish I hadn't commented on this thread now... perhaps people should just make their own minds up about which local services/businesses they'd like to help. Best of luck to all essential businesses remaining open. Over and out!
  19. I agree with Fox... yes infection may not result in indefinite immunity, but the effect may be sufficient to dramatically decrease transmission, to the point that it's no longer a threat to our way of life. This is currently what I'm pinning my hopes on (along with the understanding that there are many, many silent asymptomatic carriers). Because a vaccine is many months away - at best. And we can probably also learn from post-SARS Asia in terms of wearing masks when unwell, and general hygiene.

  21. gromit3:16 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How do you get the motivation to do it. > Keep saying to myself get up early to exercise, > every morning this week when I wake up, I'll do it > tomorrow:-( I know the feeling very well, but it's a matter of routine. And with me, when I've managed to achieve a certain level of fitness, the fear of regressing is sufficient to motivate me to get out for a jog now and again (or to the gym in peace time).
  22. If they've ramped up their business, can they not afford to pay someone to do this? There are a lot of people without work (or with reduced income) right now, who I'm sure could really use a few hours work. Apologies if I'm missing something...
  23. Luca's on North Cross Rd are doing a delivery service, last time I looked they hard sourdough starter listed on their items available. (They have a minimum order of ?25 though).
  24. I go out after dark... everywhere very quiet. I understand not everyone feels safe doing that, though.
