Unpleasant graffiti meets with a perfect ED response
fishbiscuits replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is blindingly obvious that Brexit was largely motivated by an anti-immigration sentiment, and that the referendum result has only gone to embolden those who hold racist, xenophobic, or nationalist views. Yes thankfully such views are in the minority round these parts, but clearly they do exist and always have done... -

Racist scum are everywhere. South London is no exception, once you step out of the bubble. -
From your last post, it sounds like it isn't so much the location that's bothering you, it's the concept of rehabilitation in general. I'm sure many of them don't take it seriously. And if my kid had been hospitalised by some young thug, then I'd probably want the key thrown away too. But neither of these things mean that offender rehabilitation is not important...

Aggressive man - Peckham rye park

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What?s with all your ?do him over? BS ?! > People really do try to extract badness and > I?ll-will from every sentence. LOL... not at all. Earlier in the thread, I sort of rhetorically questioned whether I'd try to intervene if I saw this guy threatening or harming others. I honestly don't know. But I wouldn't really blame someone for hitting the guy to stop him threatening/following their family, for instance. It was probably my own doubts and insecurities that were on my mind when I misinterpreted your "slight build" question. Of course we could have a good old fashioned internet argument about it, but... genuine mistake, no ill will intended... -

If the implication is therefore - "why doesn't someone do him over"... I suspect it wouldn't be the first time. If you go around acting like that, it's only a matter of time before someone isn't intimidated and decides to protect himself or others. But he's obviously highly unstable, so it probably isn't going to act as any sort of deterrent. -
Peckham Levels - Please support local business

Or if you can't get out... "Nandine" and "Other Side Fried" are two of the best local Deliveroo options, both operating from the Levels. -
Can't view Facebook at work... what's the latest?

And speaking of long-gone transport infrastructure... Lordship Lane station. Of course you can still see some of the old route and tunnel in Dulwich woods.

It is quite normal, and in fact has been so ever since I've been in SE London... over 15 years. There's always a reasonable chance that trains won't be running on the weekends. Would really struggle living here without a car, TBH. Failing that, buses are better than nothing... just...

I think everyone would pretend to be down with it, but quietly do a runner the night before.

I do listen to some new music, but it's usually stuff that is vaguely reminiscent of music from my formative years. While I largely agree with the criticism of the music offering, it is to be expected. It's firmly aimed at a middle-class, suburban family type of demographic. You can hardly expect cutting edge underground music.

Good work on the veggie stuff, foxicus. Personally I am weak-willed and enjoy meat too much, but I am aware that it is hard to defend ethically (possibly environmentally, too). A veg-centric diet is probably the way forward for mankind.

Why didn't a couple of bystanders perform a "citizens arrest"? Similar to when that guy pushed an old boy onto the tube tracks. Yes he's undoubtedly extremely unwell, but I'm afraid my sympathy stops quite a long way short of "poor guy". He is dangerous and shouldn't be out among the public. I'm far from confident/competent in physical confrontation, but I'm not sure if I could forgive myself if I just stood by while women and the elderly were being assaulted. -
Amazing! A pig exhibiting more intelligence than 52% of Brits. Almost makes me feel guilty for eating them.

Ha. I was hoping I'd wind up a trendy-DJ-dad! Preferably one who likes to spin a few "choonz" to get things started when the dinner guests arrive. It is not a genuine criticism of course, more a cheeky observation of social cliches (which most of us are to one extent or another).

Man alone in Dulwich park playground (Lounged)
fishbiscuits replied to fleothecat's topic in The Lounge
There's a big difference between walking in a park, and entering a children's playground (which are almost always gated off). I am struggling to think of a legitimate reason to go in without kids. Perhaps he's got mental issues, or perhaps he's just incredibly naive, but nevertheless he shouldn't really be in there. It is undeniably incongruous, and therefore at least slightly suspicious, and I would want to keep especially close watch over my child. Would I raise it with the wider community? Probably not... but I don't see what harm has been done. -
Indeed. One can be a father, of a liberal and pro-EU political stance, who enjoys a nice hoppy beer... without having to listen to the MOR abominations of Toploader, Maroon 5, Razorlight, Ed Sheeran, M People, and Simply Red. Although saying that, the cool-Dad-with-DJ-decks is almost as cringeworthy!

So it's music and "chefs"... presumably the "chefs" part of it involves buying very small portions of food at around a fiver each. Which is fine - but what you're actually getting for the (rather high) ticket price is the music. To be fair it's obviously aimed at a middle-aged, middle-class, middle-of-the-road market so the choice of music is probably about right. One assumes that the latest drill, drum n' bashment, jungle-terror, or whatever the hell people listen to now wouldn't be a great fit.

School children being mugged in Dulwich
fishbiscuits replied to BlueOrchid's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was mugged a couple of times as a teenager. One time was purely for cash, the other time was probably more about bullying/power - but they still robbed us nonetheless. I knew lads who were beaten up for their bikes or jackets. Random beatings/attacks also happened, seemingly just for fun. This wasn't in London, it was in the home counties. So while I agree that smartphones have exacerbated the issue, it's not new and it's not just something that happens in big cities. Moving out to Guildford or Berkhamsted to protect your kids is probably not going to help. My daughter is still very young, but when she's old enough to be out on her own, I'll try to prepare her to have the right mindset. If you're mugged, hand over your stuff - it is all replaceable. Don't carry valuables around, only have a basic phone, keep it locked, backed up, and insured. -
Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why are people reviving such old threads? I think St1neGrab is just a really kind person (definitely a real person, not a bot) and just wanted to reassure you.

I think if you just connect with a USB cable, and when prompted select "open for browsing" or similar. Then you can view all the photos on your phone and just drag and drop them to your PC hard drive. Saying that, a better way of doing it is just to configure your phone(s) to backup to cloud (e.g. Google Drive), then you can access your photos from anywhere.

Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Surely, as with everything (or most things) you > can't lump everybody together. My personal hunch is that while squatting can of course be morally justifiable, it's also often a lifestyle choice.. and the numbers are probably skewed towards the latter. I have no evidence - so don't ask for it! And of course while some will respect the property more than others, the way some people talk, you'd think that they were all budding Sarah Beenys.
