Man of Kent - ?4.50 for Guinness or a basic lager. I think they've completed stopped doing cask ales, though. The Wetherspoons in Denmark Hill and Forest Hill are the cheapest pubs round here, also the Bird In Hand in Forest Hill is pretty cheap.

Not local.. but we are not exactly a long way from central London.
  3. You have a point about not stigmatising, but not everyone has a valid reason like you do. Ultimately it's right that vaccination remains personal choice, but I think that if someone decides to put their personal concerns before the greater good of the collective vaccination effort, then they should probably just keep it to themselves instead of spreading nonsense on the internet...
  4. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Though doesn't anybody go to the net any more?! > It's a long time since I watched any tennis! Yeah it's changed a lot. The serve-and-volley game largely died out when Nadal and Federer came to dominance. I've heard people say that volleying is no longer as effective due to heavier/softer balls...

Nunhead is not a village (but estate agents might label it so, because they are silly) Bellenden Road is not a village (but see above about estate agents) Nunhead is not in Peckham, but it is very nearby! Croissants are not fancy - unless you've time-travelled back to WW2.

Nunhead is not part of Peckham. It is a suburb in it's own right, despite being within the SE15 postcode and the Camberwell and Peckham constituency.

LOL. Could be worse. I think it's the "I will pay ?50, and for that I expect a high quality of workmanship" comments that really annoy...

Can do it in 1.5hrs or so, on a good day. I've done it to see friends for a night out, or to go to a gig. You need to pay to park in the City Centre of course. Free parking is available north of the centre if you have the appetite for a 25 min walk. The train to Brighton is good too, though. Especially if you're mainly going to the Laines area which is v close to the station.
  11. Zenoria - yes you can still catch and spread delta variant after vaccination. But you are significantly less likely to. 1.5K vaccine deaths is horrible, but not quite as horrible as 130K Covid deaths, is it? (Why do anti-vaxers find it so difficult to understand these things?)
  12. Zeroria... - First dose (March) gave you thrush, blistered eyelids, vomiting - Second dose (July? Aug?) gave you low blood pressure/temperature/heart rate, incontinence - You personally know TWELVE people who have committed suicide due to failed businesses during lockdown You appear to be literally the unluckiest person I have ever encountered. Some would say that the fact that you don't trust the "narrative" or the "corrupt MSM" makes you a conspiracy theorist...
  13. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Pint of Voden session is ?3.30 a pint in the EDT That sounds good! Cask ale is often a bit cheaper... not sure why, I think it's just customer expectation. For lager, even a basic Amstel/Fosters/etc tends to be at least ?5 these days. ken78 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i don't know,, i stay in it's a lot cheaper i > can't justify the price one pub wanted ?7 a pint that's a joke Well yeah of course supermarket beer is cheaper than pub/restaurant! But you know... these guys have to make money somehow, especially when they're paying London rents and charging just ?8 or whatever for a curry. I would not expect to pay less than ?5 a pint in a restaurant in London. ?7 is pretty crazy though.

Thanks. Yes absolutely... helmet is essential. I managed to find the Lime and Dott coverage maps, and as you say, I saw a couple of points around Waterloo, but not London Bridge. I suspect it my be a council thing.. perhaps Southwark wouldn't agree to it. I have my doubts about these contraptions, but if I can find a route which is entirely cycle lanes, I might give it a go for fun.

Yes that sounds right. No booze allowed at all. Absolutely ridiculous! ken78 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jaflong still do BYOB which is GREAT as some > restaurants charge ?5 a pint and Mirash Tandoori > has now put a service charge on 10% so now your > beer cost ?5.50 Where in London (apart from Wetherspoons) does beer cost less than ?5 a pint these days?
  16. While some parents may try to drive there, park nearby, and get the train into work... the reality is that parking spaces are so hard to find round there, I think for most people it will ultimately be more hassle than it's worth and they'll end up on foot. As Duncan says, there are nurseries all over London, they are overwhelmingly local businesses. People are not going to be travelling from far and wide. Nurseries all seem to have some provision for leaving buggies/bikes/scooters/etc.
  17. I like the bit where they're literally running away from the encroaching deadly freeze... they manage to escape it by going into a room, closing a door behind them (phew!) and lighting a fire.

TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'll admit that humour (even poor > humour)/intonation/etc are often lost in > email/digial screen....but blimey, you must be an > absolute hoot at parties.... LOL. I assumed "of colour" was in the same bracket as "coloured" - i.e. it's a no-no... I'm inclined to call this a "stealth chopper". And I'm very curious to hear more!
  19. I've seen a few rental e-scooters around in London. Does anyone know if any of the operators have parking points south of the river? Obviously Peckham/ED is too much to ask, but maybe London Bridge, Elephant, etc?
  20. I seem to recall from my kid's nursery days that almost everyone travelled on foot. Are these traffic/parking concerns really justified?
  21. Well I've been there... water coming into cellar floor. And tried calling various trades (including my buildings insurer) who all just basically said it's normal and not actually a problem. Sorry if you don't find my input useful. But you sound fairly unpleasant so I won't lose any sleep over it.

What makes you think it's closed? Some of the best ice cream around. In fact, I can't think of anywhere better.
  23. Presumably this is due to shortage of drivers/staff, due to this "pingdemic". I think it is temporary, as soon self-isolation will be replaced by workplace testing for key workers.
  24. You think it's a leaking pipe, rather than just ground water penetrating into the cellar? I reckon that unless you've actually had your basement converted (including floating floor and pump/sump) then occasional water ingress is pretty much the norm.
