  1. Big Phil whilst I have sympathy to your predicament on that day, I still think in this country people have a right to protest even if this causes a minor inconvinience to the general public. If the results of the protest are to the benefit of the silent majority then the protestors should be applauded.
  2. Due process means that the government respect the legal rights that are owed to an individual. In this country a person has a legal right to protest. A person doesn't have a legal right to riot. The Police are within their rights to make a clear distinction between what is a protest and what is a riot and to act accordingly.

  4. If you are a protester then you should be allowed to do this freely and without interference from the Police. If you are a rioter or are seen to be trying to incite a riot then you can and should expect the Police to use physical force to deal with you.

  6. As far as I'm aware it's not actually a balaclava but is some form of protective clothing that is flame retardant should the wearer be pelted with a petrol bomb or suchlike.

  8. You've got to hand it to Nicky Thomson, the lady who was assaulted by the copper. She protests against capitalism, gets roughed up and then hires Max Clifford to sell her story.
  9. Probably about as balanced as suggesting most of Europe shared the same midset about most English
  10. I think the Police attitude at the time was formed by the regular football violence that was prevelant throughout the seventies and eighties. I also think the 1985 Heysel disaster may well have created a mindset in the Police with regards to Liverpool supporters. It possibly created the same mindset in the media at the time as well.
  11. I think murder is as dark as it gets regardless of the motives involved.
  12. 2 murders on Barry Road alone suggest that East Dulwich has more then it's fair share of crime. There is, and always has been, a dark underbelly to East Dulwich. It's naive to think otherwise.
  13. East Dulwich is probably a more affluent area then Brixton and Peckham, but it's not better.
  14. I think when providing a description of someone it should be kept as simple as possible. Skin colour, height, age, hair colour, male or female, colour and type of clothing. There is no point skirting round issues such as skin colour when trying to provide a description of an assailant as it's a vital piece of descriptive information. Therefore I don't see why it should offend anyone if it's specified.
  15. The problem with doing self defence classes is that they can give a false sense of self confidence. I'm assuming the victims in this case got away relatively unscathed, even though the male may have got a couple of punches. If this is the case then they are extremely lucky. Imagine what could have happened if they had gone to a couple of self defence classes and thought they could 'have a go'? It's likely they would have come unstuck. Self defence classes do not replicate a real life threatening situation when all the senses are on overload and the fight or flight instinct kicks in. I'm sure they also don't teach self defence techniques against 5 assailants. Best simply to hand over your property and report it to the Police and your insurance company afterwards.
  16. who's the beautiful girl in the black and white scarf ?
  17. Can we extend that to people who don't indicate to turn right at traffic lights and only do so after the lights turn green and you have pulled up behind them and you want to go straight on.
  18. I think it's all a bit of a storm in a tea cup really. I've just heard on the radio about the guy who punched a man and killed him in a dispute about pushing in. At least this one didn't end in violence.
  19. It's a real cash cow that can't be denied. ?8 for a guest pass and they can't even use the gym for that! It used to be ?2.50 when I first joined. Machinery in gym broken....carpark always overflowing....and they've increased membership prices. Come on Jags....we're in the midst of a bloody recession. Drop your prices or offer a better product !
  20. Thanks for reply. However, the carpark situation is a problem. I suspect that many of the people who use it in the evening are not members, but people who are either attending a swimming gala or using the floodlit football pitches. As a member I feel I have a right to use the car park and I live more then 5 mins away.
  21. It's been mentioned in another thread, but the adult lanes swimming is frustrating because people don't obey the fast, medium and slow lane signs. Quite often very slow swimmers swim in the fast lanes, sometimes going round the opposite way to what's been indicated. The lifeguards don't seem to be proactive in putting a stop to this.
  22. Maybe the ?8 is for a car parking space.
  23. That's the other gripe. Tried calling him a few times and he never comes to phone or returns calls. He's never there in the evenings either.
  24. The pool was closed the other day because someone had a dump in it.
