applying for schools in the ryedale 'black hole'
craigy replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Do anyone know whether the headmistress at GG is a permanent fixture or was she just bought in to bring it out of special measures and will be leaving soon? -
my son asked me so i told him that i would push the baby out etc etc and he took it to mean that the baby would burst out of my tummy and that is what he told and still tells people... i picked him up from preschool one day and walked in on a conversation with the nursery nurse telling them all pretty much the same thing as there were lots of them with pregnant mums- i was quite happy with this.. he never asked how the baby got there but did spend most of my later pregnancy pretending he had a baby in his belly that moved too and would breath in and out to demonstrate....

i had the same cleaner for 7 years until recently when she left me for a closer to home job. I paid her for 3 hours and she would do anything between 2 and 4 hours as I was usually in for some of it and i let her get away with the 2 hours as it felt like it evened itself out with the 4 hour stints she did when i left huge amounts of ironing and i felt reassured to have the same cleaner all the time (private arrangement) but it sound like yours is taking the pi**.. I never tipped her other than a weeks extra money at Xmas but I am not a tipper at the best of times....

Ada- thats really interesting.. she did have thrush and we were both treated (me just the canestan cream, i was symptomless)when she was 3 weeks old which is around the time she started to slow down in the poo ways... i wonder if they are related??? have our 6 wk check tomorrow with gp so will mention it, don't worry i am not alarmed... thanks. dulwichmum- don't really want to get into s debate about the merits of health visitors as i think that like in every profession there are good ones and bad and the one i spoke to did not inspire me with confidence that she was up to date and evidence based for several reasons... i have a friend who is a health visitor and if i ever have any issues of concern it is her that i go to rather than my actual health visitor as i trust her and her advice as we used to work together as nurses.. when i say i don't wish to speak to a health visitor it is because i am not that concerned and was looking for others actual experience of the same or similar situations... and for the rest of you that are obviously on the edge of your seats waiting to hear about my daughters bowel habit... we had a small taster on day 8 and today, day 10, is a poo-tastic day (head to toe on my husbands watch, there is some justice!!)

Sainsburys breaded chicken breasts (it is proper chicken breast) and microwaved pouch of vegetables or veg with rice that cook in 3 minutes.. Pasta and pesto- he gets a choice of shape of pasta (this is his fave) Sausages (very often) with said microwave veg And absolute bribery essential, Marks and Spencers Percy Pigs (bad, I know...) However, he will do ANYTHING for one..... -
Thanks for your replies all... I did kind of mention it in passing to the health visitor at my new birth visit (when she was 4 weeks old) and she asked me if anyone in the family had a history of not going to the toilet very often which seemed a pretty uninformed comment as I hardly think my newborn baby's bowels can be compared to my 97 year old grandad who is not as regular as he used to be.. And as I have said I am quite relaxed about it.. I have done all the tummy massage in and out of a warm bath, cycling of the legs, lifting them up, massaging soles of the feet (reflexology), extra fibre, extra fluids in my diet etc etc and it makes no difference but I think as Saf said- you can't fix what isn't broken... Regarding the juice, water advice, I spoke to one of the consultant neonatologist i work with and she said that that is what they do for the babies on the unit if they haven't been for 5 days but I think that that is more advice for a constipated baby and I don't think she is constipated so haven't gone down that route.. Scarily, I read all the American sites and they seem to be big fans of sticking things into the rectum to get things moving- am also avoiding that advice.... Day 8 and counting, not so windy today.... and Ratty, we have actually just bought a kite!!!! Craigy

thanks ladies... looks like we will be moving into day 8 without a poo but there is plenty of wind today......

sorry B&BED, post crossed, thanks- that is what i like to hear

i know, I'm beginning to think life is one long growth spurt for her, she is certainly an efficient feeding machine snd it certainly cuts down on nappies...

Hi, Just looking to hear anyone elses experience/ opinions. My 6 week old exclusively breastfed baby has not had a poo since last friday (7 days). She has been averaging every 3-5 days previously so we are in new territory at a week. She is passing really smelly wind.. Have done the googling and read all the internet has to say.. She is a very chilled little girl, feeds roughly 3 hourly throughout the day and sleeps well day and night. When she does poo it is not as big as you would expect and normal colour and consistency. I do not wish to speak to a health visitor or GP about this at the moment as they will say she is constipated which I do not think she is and tell me how to treat that. Between poos her tummy is soft, she does pass a lot of wind and at times does appear to be straining but does not appear uncomfortable. She is also gaining weight at about half a pound a week and at 6 weeks weighs 12 lbs (9 and a half at birth) I do have a medical background so feel that I am sensible about the whole thing and am not that worried about it as I know that some breastfed babies just absorb everything and have very little waste but what worries me is that am i being a little bit too relaxed and missing something so was looking for anyone elses stories about the non pooing baby..... My breastfed son pooed all the time so is very different this time round.... What do you think?? Craigy

How do I get a catnapping 12 week old into a nap routine?
craigy replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used a book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child with my son. It is by an american dr who has studied sleep habits in children for years. It won't offer any amazing solutions and does advocate controlled crying (which i have never had a problem with) but it talks about when the need to nap develops in children and as far as I remember it says that the morning nap develops at around 12 weeks and the lunchtime nap at around 5 months and that you should be looking to put them back to bed within 2 hours of them waking(long time since i read it so don't quote me) but is interesting... i discovered it at 5 months and it took me a week to get my previously no daytime sleep at all son into a 2 nap a day boy for about 3 and a half hours in total.. ps. ClareC, just tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full.. -
second baby early/late - one very unscientific research
craigy replied to millsa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have had contact with many pregnant women through work and met one who was induced at 42 wks for her 1st 5 children and then spontaneous labour at 39 wks for her 6th.. And another with 8 children who went 10 to 12 days over with all of them.. Really is no logic to it I gues.. -

applying for schools in the ryedale 'black hole'
craigy replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks fushia, that would make sense... will check with southwark though.. -
Hello, Any advice gratefully received..... I am looking to buy a booster seat for my 20kg 3 and a half year old.. It is not going to be his main seat at the moment but will go in our other car which we will use a couple of times a week to go to and from nursery until he is 4 when he will have to give up his current seat to his baby sister.. However, looking around I am now a bit confused by what I should be looking for as they all look similar but the prices seem to vary from ?30 to in excess of ?100.. My gut instinct is to just buy a Maxi Cosi one as that is what all our previous car seats have been but this seems a bit shortsighted really... Can anyone tell me what I should be looking out for or recommend any excellent seats... Thanks, Craigy

applying for schools in the ryedale 'black hole'
craigy replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Gosh the school chatter has started early but not complaining as this year is my year for stress and I live just behind the Gardens so fall into that black hole.... So can anyone help me with my understanding of it all.... Our closest school is St John's which i know is a faith school and we are not 'faith' so would be an open place then Goose Green and I am interested in both... But on the application form, if I put St John's 1st as it is nearest do I scupper my chance of Goose Green by relegating it to 2nd choice despite the fact that the 1st is a foundation school and the 2nd community????? Does that make sense???? Any input greatfully received.... -
Getting fit after babies - powerplate
craigy replied to charlottep's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can I just ask regarding doing this after having a baby- how long should I wait before trying this sort of exercise?? My baby is 2 and a half weeks and I am keen to finally sort out the much abused jelly belly after 2 pregnancies with huge babies..... -
last week there was some cute cake paintings in the gallery but they were gone by the weekend- does anyone have any further details on them?

dummies / pacifiers and how to avoid using them?
craigy replied to benjaminty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My son was a fab feeder and liked to suck all the time. I gave him a dummy at 3 weeks which he continued with on and off till 11 weeks then completely rejected it of his own doing and never had one since. Relax, they are not that bad.... -
Congratulations.... X

good luck anna..... xx

If I ever get round to getting mine baptised the god parents will be friends.. My sister had her one and only baby in january and is planning her baptism and has asked my husband to be god father but not me god mother- I am not bothered, I was hugely flattered that they chose my gusband as the only god father but I am her aunt and will always be and if anything happened to my sister and her husband she would come to me as I am legal gusrdian and vice versa with my children.. Why do people think they can interfere with your decision for your child?? I have a friends whose childless brother has never seen his niece and nephew because he did not agree with the choice of godparent!!!
