I took my little man for the first time just before his 3rd birthday and he was fine... a bit in awe of the huge tv and sat on my knee the entire film holding my hands and putting it over his face if a little scared but generally got on well (it was the princess and the frog).... took him again at 3 yrs 3 months to see Shrek (he loves the other films) and this time he sat in a chair and seemed to love it although it is a little difficult to keep the running commentary from him at an acceptable volume... we are goin to to and see TOy Story this weekend or next as he keeps asking when he can go to the cinema again and he LOVES Toy Story.....

Did you use a swing to help your newborn nap?
craigy replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
tried it at great expense (?70), never made any difference and no daytime napping till he was 5 months old (although was a champion nightitme sleeper from 7 weeks.....) -
my belief is that it is neither a myth nor gospel but individual to the baby... my son was a ferocious feeder from day 1 and would have attached to anything or anyone if he though food would come out of it.. i introduced a bottle at 3-4 days when the milk came in as despite his perfect latch my nipples were falling off and he never noticed the difference between that, a bottle or a dummy (which he rejected after 11 weeks so obviously worked that one out..) he did not notice when i stopped breastfeeding at 7 months or when i removed the bottle and went on to a cup at 14 months but that was just him.... this time round I intend to try the same thing but if the baby seems to be a fussy breastfeeder then i would be more likely to hold off on the bottle for longer so as not to interrupt the getting to know you process between the 2 of us.. If you really want them to take to the bottle regardless of what type of a feeder they are you need to introduce it within the first few weeks and daily from then on so as they do become used to it... Its all such a mindfield...

A longshot...are there any HBAC Mums out there?
craigy replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
just for the record, st thomas' does allow VBACs on their home from home birth centre but you have to have a meeting with the consultant midwife to discuss being 'out of the guidelines'... -

I too find DMC to be an excellent GP surgery.... -
i would second H&M, I have bought 8 from there in varying colour... they are long, keep their shape well, cover a bra no trouble and cheap (?4.99 or 5.99)

what age did baby go in their OWN room?
craigy replied to duchessofdulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
6 weeks for us but not really intentional (although i was never keen on the snuffling, groaning, snoring that came from him). Initialy used to start him off in his own room at 7 when he went to bed with the intention of bringing him into our room when he woke up- he just stopped waking up.... had a monitor (despite the fact he was in the room behind us) and was initially very paranoid about it but in the end i think we all slept much better for it.. -

Finger foods and gagging/choking - advice & reassurance please!
craigy replied to jenc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Isn't tha whole thing behind baby led that if they can pick the food up themselves with their pincer grip then they are sufficiently evolved to be able to handle the size of the food??? I weaned at 5 months due to having a 22lb hungry baby so started on puree but they were pretty lumpy from the begining as I couldn't be bothered with the blender then moved onto finger foods at 6 mths along with spoon feeding to make sure the calories got in.. I know friends who were slow to move onto finger foods and now have children who struggle with textures.. Personally I HATED weaning.. -

Excellent news Toast- can I ask, is it Lewisham that have come through for you or Southwark? -
my little boy is 3 and has been twice now and it is just a quick look in the mouth and a sticker for their troubles... we use the one on north cross road above Lloyds chemist, there is a lovely female dentist called Aoife (please excuse my spelling of the irish name) and both my son and my husband seem delighted to do as she asks them- would highly recommend and it is all on the nhs..

Second pregnancy: how does it compare?
craigy replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
that is so true, there is no wonder of pregnancy anymore it is a function that makes a baby and little else... my little boy is really not that interested in the bump, if i tell him there is a baby in there he thinks i am talking about my sisters baby and if he is asked what is in there says it is a shark!! -
Second pregnancy: how does it compare?
craigy replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i too am die number 2 (27 weeks) and think that i am smaller this time round... with my son i showed really early, had a huge bump that measured 3 weeks ahead the whole time and towards the end could see the looks of sympathy i got as i walked down the street (also used to lie about my due date as i couldn't bear the constant comments about the size of the bump)... this time it is def smaller and measures dates.. however, that does not make it any more manageable with a 3 year old to look after thought... traditionally subsequent pregnancies will show quicker, get big quickly and then plateau out from about 28 weeks or so.... -
can i join you.... number 2 due at the end of august so a little early for autumn but who knows, i could be late, already have a 3 year old boy..... just in the process of finishing work (yippee!!) as i work for the nhs so have a whole years annual leave to fit in before mat leave starts in august....
