  1. rendelharris, I think this particular crossing is a mixture of both, as you say drivers refusing to obey** the Highway Code, but the siting, in this day and age, should be called into question, although I have to concede that it was there back in the sixties/seventies. ** perhaps "follow" would be the more appropriate verb.
  2. Louisa, where do Jags and Volvos fit into your hierarchical grading system?

  4. Yep, J-and-B, probably, along with vouchers for: 1) Tattoos 2) Large Hoop Earrings 3) Beach Flip-Flops 4) Leggings........and if they really excel, then a gift of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy.

  7. worldwiser, serious question, does this sort of behaviour really "amaze" you in modern day UK?
  8. I've got the "bug" that's doing the rounds and feeling pretty awful and so as I whiled away the hours conferring with the flowers and consulting with the rain, I decided to really numb my brain and watch daytime T.V. Watching the Jeremy Kyle Show earlier with its' lie detector "have you cheated on your partner" crap, I had the thought.... What if someone answered as follows: "Have you ever slept with someone else?" "Yes" "The test shows you were telling the truth" Where would the show take us then?
  9. I, too, have heard bad reports, but this sort of thing goes on all over. Auctioneers are not unknown to "knock it down" to someone they know when another party is bidding. "Sorry sir, you were to late". Said individual then doesn't challenge it as possibly to embarrassed to draw attention to themselves in front of a crowd of people. Yes, it really really does go on, despite any registration with "the institute" which gives the appearance of total integrity. I know it's to late, but you could have explored the possibility of Roseberys in Knights Hill. I know they are more upmarket than house clearance auction houses, but some of the items you refer to would not have been out of place there. Sorry to hear this happened to you.
  10. Had a read, tried to, but couldn't resist...again......damn...... rendelharris you have quoted my post, so, yes, the body language and tone of voice was extremely important and, indeed, integral to me during my working life. You interpreted something somebody wrote as racist, even when supported by "evidence". I have heard the remark (on many occasions throughout my life) about loud music "sounds like an arab bazaar" or even "a persian market". I have never interpreted remarks like that as racist, more like an oft quoted old adage. I quoted someone asking a question and then answering it, so your questioning that part of my post and attempting to draw a parallel is wholly fatuous. Indeed " so wrapped up in your own importance, that you don't even realise what you are writing". Finally, you refer to "your good self". Thank you for paying due deference. It is, of course, entirely apposite.

    Christmas

Well, we know it's everywhere in the shops, but I draw the line at piped music being played, in particular "Let It Snow" by Dean Martin, as heard on Friday.
  13. I have really really been trying to resist making a contribution to this thread but just cannot anymore. Why does this sort of hijacking/deviation of a thread seem to happen so much on this forum? Looking at some of the (possibly) guilty here, they do not appear to be trolls (when perusing their previous) so why have "the guilty" introduced accusations of racism ? In the absence of face-to-face contact, how do you manage to interpret that Duvaller is being/is a racist? You cannot hear the tone of the/any words being spoken, you cannot read body language, you have nothing to safely base your supposition on, for that is what you are clearly doing, you're just supposing, arbitrarily deciding that that is how it is, according to your own prejudices. Let's hope none of you ever end up as magistrates or any other such position whereby rational decisions affecting others have to be made/taken. Just think of the miscarriages of justice that would inevitably occur. Of course, some of you are so wrapped up in your own importance, that you don't even realise what you are writing. An example, Alice writes "Am I going mad. A couple of posts were removed and are now back" and then writes "I had asked for the post to be removed, it did seem to disappear then return". So you're not going mad, indeed, you knew exactly why, what and where because you tell us in your own words that you were aware!!! Anyway, the shop has been like that since the early eighties (as mentioned by another contributor) and, like Minitoots, I've had enough of reading this thread.
  14. red devil, St Ockwell...is that twinned with St Reatham or that "new town" in Hertfordshire, St Even A®ge ?
  15. Ok, Seabag, didn't know that and hadn't heard (of) it. I don't often travel by council transport and saw it in a shop window.
  16. .......are you feckin' kidding me!!! Caught the 185 bus back this evening from Victoria this evening and saw reference to this. Whatever next? Coming soon and to a neighbourhood near you........North Peckham Estate Garden City

Got talked into going to one of his gigs a few years back. F*** this, f*** that f*** f*** f*** all the time. Act consisted of nothing else. I knew he was that type of comedian, but...... Went to the bar after about 20 mins and stayed there!!!
  19. Last night at about 19.00hrs I came across a very large group (certainly totaling three figures)exercising in The Mall at Buckingham Palace end and next to the Green Park/ St. James Palace pathway. They were being barked at by an instructor. It was quite a sight to see such a crowd all doing "star-jumps" and "burpees" etc. As I continued walking, I overheard people walking past state " look, that lot are here again, they're here every Tuesday". Is this a new London phenomenon? Anyone know anything about it? It appeared to be very well organised.
  20. Well, I freely admit I just didn't know this, so a head's up to others who may not be aware. Decided to get rid of the little run-around, and duly sold it at the end of the month in order to maximise the refund of VED ie: complete months left to run. I have now received acknowledgement from DVLA which also informs me that it is only complete months left to run from when they receive it. As I did all the paperwork in the local post office, then clearly they would have received notification a few days into the month, thus losing another month's "tax" (only about a tenner, but..). This is clearly/probably a change introduced from October 2014 when they stopped issuing paper discs. So folks don't do the end of the month thing anymore. You will need to do it a few days before the end. This is the first time we have sold/bought a vehicle since October 2014, and yes, before someone points it out, I am now aware that it is on the DVLA website.
  21. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Unfortunately I see more and more 'youngsters' > entering the workplace who think this is how you > have to behave to succeed. Yep, spot on there. Coupled with the "Simon Cowell Effect" of behaving and talking to others, I'm sure it makes us old'uns wonder where it will all end!!!!!!!!!
  22. peckham_ryu, just wondering if, when people have posted here, whether they have based their contribution on things/ episodes they may have watched on T.V. for example My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding (et al) or perhaps even, let's say, Can't Pay, We'll Take It Away, and the attempted evictions from illegal sites featured on that particular programme, or whether or nor they actually know what they are talking about. My post was not directed at you in particular, but your reply is interesting.
