  1. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/71570 I found this asking the government to ban sales of fireworks to the general public, please sign it!

If you look at the law on fireworks, apparently they could go off in gardens all day and night after 7 am until 11 pm or 12 am Bonfire Night every day of the year. And, 1 am on Diwali, NYE, and Chinese New Year. The law needs to be changed for built up areas.

You are supposed to act calm, like it's an ordinary occurrence. I believe you haven't had your dog very long. My dog will not eat anything when she is stressed and petrified.

This topic is raised repeatedly, do a search on here and you will find different recommendations. Thread is on ED businesses section.

Get a grip. Get a grip on what exactly? Yes, letting fireworks off in the street is illegal, as it is a public place.
  7. I have lived in other parts of London, all built up areas, and was never subjected to this kind of onslaught before. Some people are even setting them off in the street, which is illegal.

Loud bangs on 'Fireworks Night'? Yes, that's right, I reported it to the council. More than 4 hours of noisy fireworks in nearby back gardens isn't acceptable behaviour. An orchestrated fireworks display doesn't last that long. Lots of 'official' displays happened on the 5th.
  9. Lots of very loud frightening fireworks going off tonight in this area, starting from about 6 pm. Why on a Saturday that isn't even Bonfire Night? I have reported it. Anyone else bothered by them?
  10. If I was you I would find out who was insuring it in the past, for example did they have to stick with the same insurers, and also try talk to other insurers about their views on insuring it. I think underpinning only carries guarantees for a limited amount of time, 20 years possibly. From what little I know most insurers take a more tolerant view now of houses which have been underpinned. Can you find out why it was underpinned, was it tree roots, or just regular subsidence? If there won't be a problems in insuring it, then I would go for it. Underpinning is very common in the London area due to the clay soil. Have you had a survey done on it? There was a lot of underpinning done after the hot summers in the late seventies, so this might have coincided with the underpinning done on this house.
  11. What is old school curry?

You want it to lead to panic selling so you can snap up some kind of bargain?
  13. The building the Patch is in was noisy before it became the Patch as they had lots of music so if it stays as a pub it could cause problems in the future if landlords flout their license.

    Foxes

  16. Why?
  17. Cheese and pickle, and cheese and coleslaw.
  18. IF you go through the Southwark complaints procedures with no joy, then you can take it to Local Govt. Ombudsman, and they have the power to award compensation. That might prevent a repeat.
  19. Anyone go to Peckham Market yesterday?
  20. Would a bin raider have put that rubbish in a bag? Maybe they had a full bin and decided to leave it at the corner for pick-up, lots of people seem to do that round here. Once had a neighbour across the street put loads of her rubbish in my bin and fill it up completely, was easy to find as her address was on some letters. She became very hostile when I asked why she did it and said she had nowhere else to put it. I have neighbours now who leave furniture out in their front garden all the time despite the fact that there is free pick up here.
  21. Hopefully the first complaint made would be counted as a stage 1 complaint, perhaps James Barber could clarify.
  22. I haven't had a bad cough for ages, but when I did I found only the Potters Cough Syrups helped. Usually they are available in health food stores, like Holland and Barrett.
  23. If it's been going on for 2 years, has the existing complaints procedure not been exhausted yet? Is it 3 or 4 stages they have? I have twice gone through that procedure against 2 different local authorities and have been successful both times.
  24. Is it possible to complain to the Local Government Ombudsman re Southwark's ineptitude, and also write a letter direct to the owner?
