  1. Property is theft. It should belong to them.
  2. Good they are making use of an empty building. The real criminals are the landlords.
  3. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations?
  4. Someone went through a red light at the East Dulwich Road / Crystal Palace Road junction this morning. If I'd crossed without looking I'd have been hit. I reported it to the police. Cars are an absolute disgrace and should be banned.
  5. Gail's relies on fat and sugar - middle class McDonald's. Owned by Bain Capital - a 175bln USD investment fund. Depressing.
  6. This is clear profiteering by the council - I'd like to see all cars banned (minus a large exception list), this is just tinkering.
  7. Chain stores, are absolutely the problem: - pay poverty wages/ wages subsidised by the tax payer 'in work benefits' - push up rents, preventing local people from owning their own business/ having job security - syphon off profits (or at least more likely to, not always) to tax havens - more likely to be owned by awful, already wealthy shareholders (e.g. Sainsburys is 15% owned by the Qatari government) Yes they provide cheaper options, but they help create the poverty which requires such cheaper options. If they didn't exist, perhaps their employees could own their own shops/ businesses.
  8. Just read the Daily Mail article - I wish I had voted for you now. Keep it up.
  9. Keen to get others' views: the redesign appears to be prioritising revenue generation via camera controls. Eg. with the Melbourne North road blockers moved south, I assume most unfamiliar drivers looking to turn left from EDG would use Derwent instead. I'm hugely against cars, however fooling people into penalty charges is unethical.
  10. I have had what I interpret as confirmation from Southern that trains may never be increased. I urge you all to email Helen Hayes and Sidiq Khan about this (please suggest anyone else that can actually do something about this?). [email protected] [email protected] Context is as follows- I sent a complaint about the current service to Southern Rail in which I asked, 'please tell me when we will have 6 trains per hour from ED to London Bridge', to which they replied (copy/paste): 'We?re currently unable to tell you precisely when, and which, services may increase'
  11. I live near ED Grove. We just had a baby. Can't get a nursery place nearby at all. We don't own a car. We work from home 50% of the time but absolutely cannot work and look after a child at the same time. Please don't try to block this - we desperately need the extra nursery capacity.
  12. Personally I find other peoples' music unbearable. I'm of the view that it should always be quiet enough so that it can't be heard by neighbours.
  13. This genuinely sounds like an excellent (if perhaps impractical) idea.
  14. Hi James, I would love to see the closure of Lordship Lane to traffic. Closing the road has done wonders for Rye Lane. Jim
  15. Hi, I've been following this thread with some interest and just wanted to throw a point into the mix. I think we shouldn't forget that the reason these changes keep getting made is because someone is employed to propose and make road changes. Whoever this person at the council is will continue to make such changes so long as their job continues to exist. There will be many more pointless road adaptations in the future because it is someone's job to propose and implement them. I think the best example is how recently the junction between Chesterfield Road and Melbourne Grove saw the pavements widened. Ultimately it was pointless, if perhaps a slight improvement, but without it happening this mythical person at Southwark Council would have had nothing to do.
  16. Hilarious! This is the opposite of Marxism - it's a poll tax. If anyone in the labour party is to blame for this ideologically (they're not) then it would be the centerists.
  17. The design is horrible but we need homes. My criticism is why build such small houses when you could fit in a tower block and house hundreds.
  18. The plans are ridiculous. They should be using that huge space to make huge towerblocks and home thousands, not quaint little 6 storey boxes.
  19. Will the Palmerston not be looking to reopen at a different site?
  20. I believe also cats should never have their whiskers trimmed as they use them to keep themselves orientated. I'd recommend looking into it as you may need to keep the poor chap inside for a bit.
  21. Try Gloria on East Dulwich Grove. She's great!
  22. Does anyone know if the 'are you in favour...' question represents a referendum-style yes or no to the scheme that will be respected?
  23. One thing I haven't understood is whether, officially, the plans will be droped if the consultantion comes back with a majority against?
