  1. Saw you for the second time in the local area this evening. Whoever you are, and for whatever reason you do it, you are a legend. I particularly like the rainbow LED on the front of your bike, which adds to the mysticism and artyness of what you do.
  2. The only conclusion I can draw from green goose's post is that they must have never have experienced the hardship of living on a low wage.
  3. The transport situation should improve from 2018 when the thameslink programme finishes, right?

In which direction did you expect > the thread to go? I'm all for discussing things in detail, however it seems several people on here are using irrelevant details in order to somehow prove that what happened was justifiable. Apologies to anyone that genuinely wants to have some sort of philosophical debate about what racism is. I guess you are right that I should have expected such responses, unfortunately.
  5. I really cannot believe the replies on this thread. I thought racism was largely dead but I guess it's just not expressed publicly.
  6. And thank you all for the messages of support. I just hope the abused couple are ok.
  7. OK seems I neglected to mention that the couple were assumedly muslim - the lady was wearing a headscarf. Clearly it was racism, islamophobia, discrimination, whatever you want to call it.
  8. Hi, they said they will keep it on file and will get back to me should the victims decide to contact them. It seems unless the victims come forward nothing will happen. Otherwise why / how was this thread renamed? The title I gave it was 'racist incident this afternoon'
  9. Awful! Someone shouted 'terrorists' at a man and woman walking down Lordship Lane today near Classic Lofts and the launderette. They looked back, bewildered but otherwise seemed OK. I chased after the victims to tell them I would be happy to be a witness if they wanted to go to the police but they declined. I have reported it to the police too. Jim
  10. Bic Basher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If the OP has a genuine issue with the business, > he should complain to the owner directly. I did this and haven't heard back. However I also wanted to warn others of what happened and get feedback as to how to take things forward, hence this post. I too am confused by the way this thread went, mind. I'm amazed by how rude, hateful and argumentative people are online. I'm sure these same people would never speak to each other this way in real life.
  11. To clarify, the guy cutting my hair was British in that he spoke with a British accent, assumedly of Turkish decent and appeared to speak Turkish as a second language. I promise I'm not a local barber trying to undermine a rival local business, but I guess I can't prove that.
  12. Hi all, Thank you for the messages of support. I was rather upset after this incident and I found comfort in some of the responses on here. Don't know about the trolling though... Can I request that if anyone has any advice as to whether I should involve the police I would appreciate your feedback Can I also request that this is moved back to the main part of the forum (how do I do this?) This post is not a review of Mem's, it's a warning and a discussion on an incident that took place in ED. Mentioning the fact that the haircut was bad was an attempt to add a bit of lightheartedness to a bleak post.
  13. Hi, I want to warn others about this place. I went to get my hair cut at Mem's (near Dulwich Library) this morning. The guy who cut my hair at first didn't say much, but then started chatting to his colleague in Turkish. I didn't understand they were saying. Afterward he laughed and told me and his other colleague, 'I just asked him if he spoke Turkish, he said he did but then I asked him if he likes it up the batty and he said he does'. I was offended by this and consider it homophobic. I also felt intimidated. A few minutes later he started talking about how he got some pills which made him 'at least an inch larger'. I found this intimidating, awkward and embarrassing, as well as crude but, you know, I'll live. However he then made the comment that these particular pills we're, 'much better than what you get from Pakis on the street.' At this point, hugely offended, I didn't say anything because he was almost finished and I felt so intimidated. I went to pay and after I'd got my coat I said to all the staff, 'By the way guys, next time you make insulting remarks about gay people and Pakistanis you may want to check your customers aren't either of those things. I won't be coming back here again.' note that I am neither gay nor Pakistani, so I'm not really sure why I challenged them that way, but I didn't want to leave without saying anything. To boot, my hair cut isn't very good either. I wanted to warn everyone on here about this in case they are considering going. I also hope this will lose them some business. I would also welcome anyone's advice as to whether I can go to the police about this, considering I wasn't actually a 'victim'. Jim
  14. Hi reddevil, answers below - what do you reckon? The room is approx 3x3m Existing walls are fully tiled Fittings are being changed like for like Looking at doing half tiled Tile size not decided but nothing very small Want to change the radiator like for like No plans on lighting or ventilation
  15. Reading this thread, weren't you a victim of a mugging?
  16. Ha thanks kidk, we'll see if I get any other more competitive offers first... So in conclusion maybe 2k?
  17. Hi there, if you have a recommendation that would be great thank you.
  18. Good to hear, thanks! I was worried I wouldn't be able to go ahead with the project.
  19. Just got quoted ?4,800 for the fitting and tiling, including tiling the floor (ie not including any of the fixtures, fittings or tiles). Does this sound reasonable? It's about 5 times more than I was expecting and I won't be able to afford to have it done now. Does this sound like a reasonable rate?
  20. Whilst cycling, I am often overtaken dangerously by idiots. Whilst I'm driving I'm often undertaken by suicidal idiot cyclists. There are bad road users all over London, regardless of transport method.
  21. I cannot believe the racism that is implicit in pretty much every comment on this thread. Whatever the truth, or lack of, behind the comments being made, imagine how quick to condemn we would be if ed-nagaiutb's comment was made about any other minority group.
  22. There's no indication of timings are there? For me the trains per hour doesn't mean much if they're not evenly spaced.
  23. All I'm saying is if you haven't tried them, please try local shops over M&S. Imo they are better and often cheaper.
