  1. I think they are very helpful in there but do agree massively expensive
  2. Being a Brummie, I'd be delighted to see a 'proper' Balti house' in ED. Having said that I'm yet to find one outside of the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham that is remotely authentic. Balti cuisine became known throughout the UK during the 1990s, after initial growth in Birmingham since the 1980s. One school of thought states that name 'Balti' for food may reflect the fact that an ethnic group living in that area of north Pakistan are called Balti. Alternatively, 'Balti' food is named after the pot in which it is cooked. That origin of the word is to do with the Urdu and Hindi word balty - "Balty, s. Hin. balti, which means "bucket." This is the Port. balde."[2] As mentioned in the late nineteenth century in Hobson-Jobson, the term 'balti' refers to the steel or iron pot in which the food is cooked or served, taken from the word 'balti', which is derived from the Portuguese word 'balde', meaning bucket/pail, which was taken to India by the Portuguese on their seafaring enterprises in late fifteenth century. Therefore, originally, the word 'Balti' refers to a bucket, then evolving to its meaning as a cooking pot. If you can replicate it good luck, but it's a very different taste to the baltis available down here in general ( satarge in Covent Garden excluded) I think it would be a very risky venture.
  3. EDOldie, you are quite correct, both pubs owned by Mitchells and Butlers, definitely not an easy brewery to work for, (if any is, in this day and age). The Crown and Greyhound's proposition is totally different to the Plough. I think both are good, traditional, solid boozers. I have tried to buy the Plough from M&B without success, as I think given a free reign rather than brewery restricted bull it has the potential to be a cracking establishment. Let's not forget less than a decade ago it was nothing short of a drugs den. Yes, I have waited far too long to be served at times, but the place is run on a tight budget. I still have hopes of getting hold of the place and Turing it back into the traditional old coaching inn it is.
  4. Attempted burglary on Dunstans Rd 5am this morning, through the front door. Dog went crazy fortunately and offenders scampered before I had time to get my senses together and down the stairs. No damage to door as it seems they tried to pick the lock. Be aware pleease, as I certainly wouldn't have heard them.
  5. Selma, I can see you are clearly upset about this situation, may I suggest you just shop online?
  6. Sorry for the delay, the best I've found responsive wise is [www.rentforthegames.com] Others claim all sorts of guarantees, which is crazy. 3 things I've learnt is don't expect massive enquiries with wad loads of cash right now, it seems the corporates have got their things sorted and it tends to be uk families looking for cheap nights accommodation, or families who claim to have a relative participating in the games looking for a sympathy rent. Secondly beware of non genuine enquireies, had a few that simply were looking to move in and never move out, thirdly on a more positive note, try not to be greedy, my one bedder on Crystal Palace Road I teased at 500 a week and had 7 chasing on got close to a ?900.
  7. Let a 2 bed flat of mine off LL for ?1500 a week to a Chinese tv company who have already paid a substantial deposit for the three weeks they require it.
  8. As a dog owner I just don't get the requirement to walk a dog on the streets or restricted public areas off a lead. My dog will comfortably walk to heal, but at the end of the day she is an animal and needs controlling. I enjoy the fact I can take her into local pubs after a walk in the park, but will only do so on a firm short lead. My dog is a big soppy fool under my guidance and that's the way it should be, if I were to let her roam free it's inconsiderate to others who don't like dogs or more importantly small children that know no better than running up to them without realising the consequences that could evolve.
  9. Looks fab, but will have to knock at least 200k off to sell it
  10. This is not a utility company, it is a pretty small business in the scheme of things. Private education is enormously expensive from 3 to 18, probably more than most people's mortgages pro rata. We all want the best for our children, and circumstances change beyond our control, which causes income to fluctuate. But I wouldn't dream of sending a child through private/public school education unless the funds were secured to do so in the first place. I saw too many kids yanked out of my public school (25 years ago) for exactly the reason of this topic, so it's nothing new.
  11. I respect all her work ethics and routes to solve the issue in hand, but as Damien H says at the end of the day it's a business and has significant overheads to meet each month. How would you feel if the staff striked because they hadn't been paid, because of parents are living beyond their means?
  12. Rather simple, if you choose to go the private education route, you have to be in a position to pay, if not, don't pretend you can. Sorry if that sounds brutal, but it's a fact.
  13. Because it's waiting for the lease to be bought by another charity shop on a reduced lease
  14. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,326519,326519#msg-326519 Similar post a few years back and they are together I know from a friend who knows her
  15. Frankito, I am mostly disappointed with the Indian takeaways in the area that I've tried, but I've found it's not that the food is poor, it's my palate. I did most of my curry eating apprenticeship in Birmingham and mainly there I'm told it's North Indian cuisine and of course Balti (which i am yet to taste an authentic one outside of Sparkbrook) here mostly south Indian, there's a surprising difference. Having said that, I have had a couple of belting chicken pathia's from Cinnamon in Forest Hill, good rich, spicy sour sauce with plenty of succulent chicken.
  16. James, yet again I asked at Dulwich Leisure Centre as to when the new gym facilities that were due to open last month would open, I was told probably September! Do Southwark not put their contractors on penalty clauses for failure to complete? The gym is nothing short of a joke, half the equipment in there is either broken/out of use on a constant basis. And I don't want an answer use Peckham Pulse, because I don't pay my 40 odd quid a month in membership to jump on a bus that would collectively cost me the same again in bus fares over the same period.
  17. Carefill dully, you and the odd other poster are very close to libel here, as the administrator has already indicated. You could well be causing more problems than you could ever imagine. If I was Mr Moyles and I have no idea whatsoever the intent by his poster, I'd be backing my innocence all the way through the legal system and you could find yourself dragged headfirst into it as well.
  18. Half way down Lordship Lane on the left, now for sale with Wooster & Stock for 325k
  19. I completed in 6 mins 48 secs and came 5th ish last year
  20. If the park wardens patrolled and were brave enough to tackle the offenders they wouldn't need to have nightmare clean up mornings
  21. Yep have Mac Airbook and iPad both purchased in the States at a fraction of the cost than in UK, suggest you post the warrantee and receipt to yourself from US and discard of all packaging before traveling home.
