  1. i'm having the same problem - 3 bed house - cleaner comes for 3 hours fortnightly - she hoovers whole house, mops the floors and cleans kitchen and bathroom. Started off great, but increasingly seems to look less and less clean when she's been. Think you're right - just better to discuss it with her, but i find the whole thing a bit awkward...
  2. hmmmm i can't seem to get enough of refreshers. am 13 weeks now and sickness seems to be going off slowly. In my last pregnancy it also went about the 17 week mark...
  3. i had a c-section last year and was told by my insurance company that legally i wasn't covered until 6 weeks - same for any major op. Was a bit annoying as i felt completely up for driving way earlier, but seemed like i had no choice...
  4. hello! I'm due mid-November with my 2nd (1st is 13 months) and would also love to join you all on July 17th. I'm working but have wednesdays off so if anyone fancies a coffee anywhere in the SE22/SE15 area anytime, would be lovely to meet up. My email address is [email protected] Hope everyone is feeling ok. See you in July if not before.
  5. a friend of mine has just started going to a class at Kings - they have them on Wednesday and Thursday nights i think
  6. Hey, My daughter is 9 months old and so far we've been relying on family to look after her so we can go out. But this is not always easy to arrange. How do you find babysitters in the area and whats the best way to ensure they're going to be ok/trustworthy? we're obviously novices at this particular game...
  7. bumpy, we have just travelled to Christchurch NZ (with Stopovers in Dubai, Thailand and Sydney) - In all the airports we went to (except Sydney) - there were buggies available as we stepped off the plane that we were able to use through the airport and then just leave at the desk when we boarded the next flight. It was fantastic as it meant we didn't need to keep chasing/re-checking our own buggy. Not sure if its a common thing all over the world or with certain airlines (we were with Emirates/Air New Zealand), but may be worth checking the airlines/airports....
  8. Just got back from NZ trip with 6 month old - was nervous before we went, but it was absolutely fine. Like many of the people before have said, its a pretty perfect age for travelling - my daughter hardly even noticed we were doing something "different" - she continued to be hungry as normal, tired as normal etc... - if anything she was rather sleepier than usual - the buzz of the plane, the excitement (who knows?) - the only times she did proper crying - like the kind i was scared of, and as a passenger before babies, the kind of crying that i dreaded when seeing a little baby on board - was during landing, and that was only when i failed to get her drinking/sucking in time - pretty much as soon as they say that descent is starting (usually about 20 minutes before actual touch down) get your baby sucking (whether boob or bottle) - i had been advised that breastfeeding wasn't the best idea, so in the couple of weeks before we left i dropped down to half and half, but actually whilst flying found it useful to have both options available! The time difference was another big worry, but we just did our best to keep busy and outside during the days once we arrived, and she settled (both going there and coming back) within 2 days and was back to sleeping proper times. The whole thing was really so much easier than i thought it would be...
  9. i was woken up last week by a foxtons agent (having made the mistake of wandering in there one summer afternoon to see what they could offer me and passing on my details) - only to be warned that if i remained a sheep and followed the rest of the population into waiting until next year to buy that i could end up like those sheep in turkey did i.e. fall off a cliff and die.
  10. "Maybe tell us what roads you're considering ?" Looking at properties on Furley Rd/Marmont Rd - i.e. north of peckham high st If the aim is to be close-ish to Peckham/E.Dulwich (at a push) - affordable places remain Queens Rd peckham/Nunhead. It is proving difficult to weigh up the options; Queens Rd Peckham - bad reputation, not so picturesque, central, close to peckham, exciting vibe, good transport (bus/train) Nunhead - lovely looking, good pubs, nice community feel, but quiet and not so good transport quiet but out-of-the way vs. not quiet but easy to get to - have i got this right? - which wins?
  11. As a first time buyer who finally achieved some kind of deposit after years saving only to be told that 10% meant nothing in this market, i am looking further afield than the peckham rye/east dulwich outskirts i had hoped for....seen some truly lovely, completely affordable and rather generously sized properties in roads set between peckham high st and old kent rd. Said roads are also amidst the high rises/low rises that have brought peckham its infamy. I have been told by acquaintances that this area should be a no-go....noise, fighting, police, helicopters as a daily occurrence with people too scared to come out of their front doors ??!!??. Is it really this bad? I grew up in peckham rye and have never felt unsafe around peckham but am i to be floored by the reputation of the "inner depths of peckhams worst"....please help....
  12. Anyone else fear for their lives today whilst walking past Somerfield LL making breathing very difficult. What was it? This was also about the same time that LL seemed to be infested by a plague of large flying ants....on speaking to hubby who is working in Ealing said plague is also reported present there...eek
  13. If you are going North/North-West, by far the fastest way we have found to get out of London is to back street up to Elephant and Castle, cross over Blackfriars Bridge, keep going straight up to Kings Cross and left onto A40....used to be a nightmare but the last few times we have done this traffic flow was constant and the hellish roadworks around St Pancras seemed a thing of the past. We have got out and back into London faster than any time we have tried coming in on the M4/earls court/vauxhall way...
