Advice please! Flying long distance with an 11-month-old
Grotty replied to radnrach's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Flew long-haul with a 6 month old in September and had similar concerns, but it was much less stressful than i thought it would be - there have been a few threads about this over the last year - see below - they cover an range of ages from newborn to 2 yrs, but lots of good general advice. Hope that helps: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,568139,572036 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,413889,414632 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,667549,667645 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,571540,571707 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,558561,559683 -
Not another baby weaning thread... Help, please
Grotty replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Might not be the same, but my daughter started doing something similar around that time. Turns out she wanted some independence! On giving her her own spoon she happily and very smuggly started trying to feed herself. Although in the early days she only managed tiny small amounts and instead ended up with her and the floor and the table smothered in grime, it meant that mealtimes weren't a struggle anymore. She was so happy and distracted with her own spoon/attempts at self-feeding that she didn't mind my own efforts to spoon bits of food in. end result - both happy and baby well fed.... -
we just went around france with a tent and a copy of Cool Camping France - they now do a Cool Camping Europe which includes some sites in Spain - we went in april, so not high season, which may have made a difference, but it was excellent and all the places we stayed were stunning/peaceful. You could try something like that...

i think the ones we have are tommee tippee - they are blue/red - the spoon bit is red and goes yellow if food is too hot - we got them at 4 months when we started trialling bits of baby rice/porridge/puree - she is now 15 months and still uses them occasionally for yoghurts etc with no problem. I'd say go with 4m - if spoon becomes too small you just start using normal teaspoons...

There is a good paediatric/ENT department at the Evelina (St Thomas' Hospital) - you can ask your GP to refer directly - patient choice and all that...

disposable panties - so in those first few days of blood and yuk you don't have to consider stains/washing - just rip and bin. Hurrah!

Thanks Fuschia - we went to Busybee's in the end and the aquarium - great success - little Grotty thrilled with arts/crafts session where we made butterfly wings and then totally overexcited by all the little fishees - i always forget about the Horniman for some reason...

what do/did you use Fuschia?

what day(s) does it run?

Cervical sweeps; do they actually work???

had 2 - first at 40+4, second at 41+2 - and nothing except pain and some spotting, but "useful" as showed i was clamped tightly shut and unlikely to go into labour anytime soon. Was eventually induced at 41+5 then 3 days later C-section. One very stubborn little baby... -
Day off today and Mr Grotty won't be home until way past bedtime so its just the 2 of us - i've been up with little Grotty (15 months) since 5.30 - we're both fed, washed, dressed, tidied house, done the washing, there's leftover dinner from last night so no cooking to do either - now trying to think up things to keep us busy all day - any ideas?

If you haven't specifically chosen a local midwife service and you are planning to have your baby at Kings, then you will have your booking appt at Kings too - you should get this between 8-10 weeks as you thought. I'm on my second pregnancy with Kings and both booking appt's were done around those times. Re: midwife care during pregnancy - that depends on whether your GP practice has their own midwife or not - mine does and she is great (Dionne at Sternhall Lane surgery), so at the relevant times (16 weeks/20 weeks/25 weeks/30 weeks then fortnightly after that until birth) I just go and see her at the GP practice. A friend did not have a midwife at her practice so had all her antenatal/midwife appt's at Kings. Some people opt out of GP midwife service for local midwife groups eg. The Lanes, but these can be booked up very quickly due to excellent reputation so difficult to get in. Kings now do 3 scans through pregnancy - 12 weeks, 22 weeks and 32 weeks (this is a new scan done for their research purposes - you don't have to have it, but who would turn down an extra scan!!!) At your booking appt you will be given a set of notes that you are supposed to carry with you everywhere until birth - they have good info - like a list of all relevant dates when you need to see midwife/have scans/relevant blood tests etc...

Same management as Peckham creche - which i used a number of times last summer - the first few times they asked me to wheel the buggy into the play area - on asking why they said they if babies get upset, seeing something they recognise might make them feel better - not sure my buggy has ever had that kind of soothing effect on little grotty though! however, never had any problems - i was initially a non-member so paid something like ?3/4, but once i joined it was more like ?1.50, and you can book up to a week ahead...

How old were everyone's little ones when they made the switch from cot to bed? Expecting no.2 when no.1 is 19 months old. Was thinking maybe easier to do switch pre-arrival of no.2 - or is that way too young?

Hmm, i'm a gardening novice after a bit of advice - we have a victoria plum tree, planted 18 months ago - last year didn't do much, this year has burst with branches and leaves but no sign of fruit - if it is going to fruit does anyone know when we should expect to see the first signs of some or is it too late? Thanks

Due with second in November which means we'll then have a newborn and a 19 month old (who is on the larger side!) - had decided on the P&T, but now worrying we're making a mistake. eek...
