recurring flu/dizziness virus - has anyone else had it?
Robert Poste's Child replied to Minitoots's topic in The Lounge
Did they test him for glandular fever already? Or could there be a physiological cause relates to long hours of studying? When I was a student I had similar symptoms when the back of my neck was pinching something. -
Why women never respond to my online dating profile?
Robert Poste's Child replied to Jeremy's topic in The Lounge
Trying to imagine a dating site for people looking for a meaningful relationship with bots and scammers. -
ED Nature Watch

Saw a total of five stag beetles in flight while out for a pre-bed walk last night. Corner of Burbage and Stradella Roads seems to be a hotspot. -
Dovedale/Forest Hill Rd Talking Cat
Robert Poste's Child replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wonder if it came from Woodwarde Rd? There was one there not so long ago whose meow genuinely sounded like 'hello'. Used to make me fall about laughing. -
Huge rats prowling Peckham Rye Common
Robert Poste's Child replied to PrunellaGobsworth's topic in The Lounge
You forgot Schroedinger. I was thinking about simple things like relaxing and allowing yourself to do what you want and feel what you feel in that moment - things a lot of us forget as adults. Cats relax so completely they lose their shape. -
She called for a 'final solution'? Unbelievable. Surely a police caution is also in order?

Poor you, sounds like an intimidating situation to find yourself in. You were very brave and more assertive than many of us would have managed in those kind of circumstances.

"There is definately something wrong with someone who makes the choices this woman has." Absolutely, so it's a question of what you mean by 'wrong' - mad or bad. The use of 'choices' is interesting (and I'm not being critical as we all think this kind of thing sometimes). It implies that it was some kind of decision arrived at after a calm, rational consideration of all the options. Obviously we don't know all the details but the coverage has mentioned it happened in the context of drug and alcohol use and may have been triggered by a past abusive relationship when inhibitions were lowered, and there seemed to be hints in there about serious mental health problems (effects of prior abuse plus self-harming as well as cutting BF), with drugs and alcohol as a way of coping. In the circs a doctor would usually get the person off the substances before treating any mental health problems so it seems not unreasonable given it's not in the context of gang or other criminal activity. Given all this it sounds like she has a lot of work to do and may be unlikely to qualify as a heart surgeon but perhaps she can build on her training to help people in another way. Disagree with the comments about putting it down to youth though as she's 25 and that seems a bit infantilising - would we say the same if it was a man?

Did you manage to take a photo of the driver as well as the number plate? From what you say I wonder if the driver had borrowed or stolen the car, though surely the police would have told you if so.

It's not such a problem if you buy fruit and veg in its traditional season and make sure it smells as it should. If you buy English strawberries now-ish they should smell like strawberries in the packet and go mushy in 2-3 days. I bought some about six weeks ago and they were still rock hard after two weeks; even liquidised they were tasteless.

You just need to open yourself to what cats have to teach us, Borky. -
A friend of mine says Fairy liquid works on most stains. Worth a try, as it's white anyway so no risk of fading? Or if cotton you could just soak in a solution of bleach. If you have outside space you could just put it in the sun as that may do the trick on its own.

Robert Poste's Child replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Endured in the ladies' wet changing room at Dulwich Leisure Centre just now: Child repeatedly honking very loud horn on scooter (hello, hygiene, topic of many conversations with DLC). Fond mother, very brightly repeating, 'That's a very annoying noise, isn't it?' YES IT IS. JUST TELL HIM TO STOP. -

I never knew postcodes were allocated alphabetically; how fascinating. Surely only a matter of time till this appears in a Deserter piece. -
I had the same with Jersey Royals from Lidl a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps you could try Franklins, Herne Hill market or one of the veg box schemes? Anya potatoes from Sainsbury's are nice with quite a nutty taste.

Fabricated because you said yourself the person didn't speak so truth is you've no idea where they're from. Mischievous? Malicious more like. -

Robert Poste's Child replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Come off it - your recent experience is one thing but fabricating it into yet another tired old rant on your favourite topic is another. What do you hope to achieve - to drive out of SE22 anyone who wasn't born there? And then what do you do for doctors, teachers, restaurants and shops? Or is it just about spreading bad feeling? -

For goodness sake, does every single thread have to degenerate into an attack on people who were born more than a mile from Goose Green, Louisa? Pure prejudice vented on the slightest pretext. -

Easy - instant hefty fine and points on licence. Make a few examples and the majority will conform. -
Consultation on government air quality plan
Robert Poste's Child replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
When you cycle regularly you can't help noticing that there are people who happily drive around in vehicles that they must know (if they ever use their rear-view mirror) are pumping out fumes and particles into the faces of pedestrians and cyclists. Clamping down on that would help, as would making people switch off engines when stationary. -
When the Euro came in, the Dutch government - knowing the thrifty Dutch ways - gave everyone a set of Euro coins to encourage adoption during the transition phase. I've got two sets, never unwrapped; hoping they're going to be worth something when Merkel realises that abandoning the single currency could restore a sense of sovereignty and avoid the total breakup/down of the EU.* *Possibly.

Sorry. They're attached with a rubber band thing and it's hard to keep them steady.

The Cheese Shop and adjoining Health Shop Lordship Lane
Robert Poste's Child replied to Spangles30's topic in The Lounge
Never used the carpet shop but have reluctantly stopped using Health Matters as for some reason they rarely seem friendly. Got a bit weary of feeling like I'm being talked down to, lectured or reprimanded. Get enough of that at work, thank you. -

Wondering if this is an attempt at a wind-up by an existing forumite? Not sure why you'd pick this subject though. However ... taking it at face value, it's normal to find rats around water, whether they're water rats (like Ratty in TWITW) or the common brown kind happily living off the food litter people leave behind. And why are rats always 'as big as cats'? Growing up in the country I saw a few that were genuinely cat-size and you'd know if you saw one - pretty scary and very bold. -
Sheridan used to be a boy's name - remember Sheridan Morley, the critic, son of Robert? Not to mention the son of Hyacinth Bucket.
