  1. I'm completely failing to make any progress. Had to fend off unwelcome advances yesterday and by the time I got home I was so cross I compounded it with ice cream.
  2. I can't see a figure for the total actual headcount that's at risk. How many people are likely to lose their job altogether, and how many to be put on new Ts&Cs?
  3. If you have, or want to set up, a local Neighbourhood Watch, you can get a sticker saying you don't give money at the door etc. Maybe that would help?
  4. That does sound outrageous and I've signed the petition. However, I also looked at the DPG website, which lists 34 members of staff, only two of whom look like they might be in the team involved, so I assume there are more who are not listed plus existing volunteers. This does look like a large staff for a relatively small gallery, but if all the positions are needed they should be staffed and paid properly. When you restructure, it's the role that is redundant, so they can't simply bring in less qualified people at a lower rate or it would trigger claims for unfair dismissal.
  5. Maxxi's right: yet another lazy researcher trying to find yet another voyeuristic angle which the viewer is encouraged to see as reality but is actually edited to make the sock puppets involved look like a commentary on 'Broken Britain'.
  6. Many years since I last went, but lots of great memories. Also some gaps where I can't remember a thing and a few nightmare flashbacks where I wish I couldn't. Is the Arkle bar still there?
  7. So - one's a cardiac-inducing lardy health hazard and the other's doner kebab meat?
  8. Isn't canola effectively a genetically modified form of rapeseed?
  9. phobic3000 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I heard once that McDonalds milkshakes have > sawdust in them... Urban myth? Myth, though (if there was such a thing as food-grade sawdust) it might be healthier: the fibre would slow down the sugar absorption, making it lower GI and less stressful on the pancreas, and the displacement of sugar and fat by the sawdust would reduce the calories overall.
  10. Maybe I should have said that was a long time ago. 11. The only time I've ever fancied a McDonalds as an adult has been when tottering down Shaftesbury Ave at three in the morning. Even then I've been shocked by the lack of any real texture - it's like eating baby food made into burger shapes. Smarties McFlurries are good though.
  12. Why not post a neutralised outline of the problem and find out?
  13. I'm wary of the 'in large doses' argument. It's usually a red herring as anything taken in excessive amount can have dangerous side-effects, including water and oxygen. That said, I don't eat McDonalds because it's (to use a phrase drummed into me years ago by an ex-boyfriend) processed muck. We live in a capitalist society and the most political thing we do each day is choose how we spend our money. If you feel strongly that something isn't right, don't buy it.
  14. I read a similar article recently. To be fair to McDonalds, the fries are made in the normal way from potato, which surprised me as I assumed they were chemical sludge extruded into a chip shape. All the other 'ingredients' are actually sprayed on as a coating before the initial frying or they're in the oil mixture. To be honest I had a higher opinion of the finished product after I'd read the article, but maybe that's just me.
  15. When the Deserter's circulation reaches tipping point I bet they rename that one after Half-Life.

Her personality matches said hair. Ooh, bitchy. The very curly hair is probably due to her North African heritage rather than her state of mind, no?
  17. First he hit a G, then an F, a D and a B flat. Otta shuddered in pain.
  18. Worth bearing in mind that in reality shows the edit is effectively the playing out of an underlying agenda and usually an implied commentary. You're being played, in other words.
  19. Just remembered I met Nadia Sawalha at a book launch years ago and she seemed very nice and down to earth to me. Haven't seen the programme but I'm sure if I were confined in a house with Katie Hopkins I wouldn't bother confronting her either as she's so aggressive and always has to have the last word, so no chance of any genuine discussion.
  20. An hour later he was at his desk in Canary Wharf, freshly showered and waiting for the FTSE to open.
  21. For the benefit of those who haven't seen it, what's she doing and why does it annoy you? Isn't she a fairly local girl, by the way? I've a feeling she lives or used to live around Tulse Hill.
  22. On the way he dropped off TheArtfulDogger at remedial spelling and punctuation.
  23. Kissing's a minefield too these days. Can be anywhere from 0 to 4, so 80% chance of getting it wrong. I favour one, but only to family and close friends. I once worked alongside a very girly bunch of people who kissed and hugged each other at both ends of the working day. Even the memory jangles a nerve in my chilly English heart.
  24. Oh, I don't think it's true that Louisa is unpopular - the impression I get is she's much loved but sometimes says unpopular things!
  25. Yeah, but here I don't have to smile politely.
