  10. I'm in a mellow mood today.I agree with everything that everyone has said on this thread.
  11. Quick Synopsis for Newcomers to this thread.. Geezer has gone in Somerfields, chanced his arm doing a lil teefing.Got collared in the act.Been given a smack or two for his trouble by Security who gave him an extra dig for the road.Poetic Justice, innit say some-others are crying "Foul!".... ....to be continued...

  13. Absolutely! If I'm ever burgled and apprehend the culprits,I shall ask them if they wouldn't mind awfully waiting for the local constabulory to arrive, while naturally apologising for any inconvenience caused all round.I shall then hand them over and wave them off with a cheery smile.Violence never solved anything.I'm sure a consoling arm round the shoulder will do the trick in this potentially awkward situation.

  17. Mark! HELP! You are, obviously,a self-proclaimed expert on this Subject and yet you,the expert who has kindly, not once but twice, taken the time and trouble to correct me, spells "fullstop" like this and yet I have just read: "A full stop or period (sometimes stop, full point, decimal point, or dot), is the punctuation mark commonly placed at the end of several different types of sentences in English and many other languages. A full stop consists of a small dot placed at the end of a line of text, such as at the end of this sentence" Confused,Bexley.(?)
  18. Mark Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Tony, after a fullstop or comma, please put a > space. Like that. ..Thanks for the education Mark.I never even realised that "fullstop" was one word!
  19. Mark Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's a shame some people didn't get punctuation > beaten into them as a child eh Tony? Sean:There is no doubt that the possibility and likelihood of becoming innocently a victim of crime is MUCH greater in some areas than others. No guarantees,of course but I usually forget to lock my back door where I live now,for example, and never lock my car in my drive..I know from 25 years living here that, thus far, there has been no problem for me or anyone I know of(to my knowledge)..thats not to say that one can not be a victim here or in a pleasant part of our great City but the chances are much less.A guy I heard of moved into an Estate in Kidbrooke and has been burgled 5 times in under 7 months. As he replaces the items,in come the boys again.(6)...Where I used to live in Inner London now has Security Doors at the entrance and Grills on some windows by comparison.Listening to the Cognescenti from Hampstead/Highgate is always guaranteed to get my pecker up:))

We do it and > feel oh so politically correct and smug. Like > we're defending the little guy. .....THAT IS EXACTLY what irritates me to be honest!...INVARIABLY the people with these views are NOT personally affected by Crime, particularly street crime.Visited my friend in his ?1,000,000 Property.All-Jewish Neighbourhood in East Finchley last week(they buy any outstanding vacant property in his Cul-De-Sac to keep "others" out-WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!) and to hear the Liberal Views of people who will, realistically, never be personally affected is LAUGHABLE,totally surrealistic to be honest. No concept of living on major Housing Estates and personally experiencing the "end product" .Then hear the viewpoint of almost everyone with many years experience of living in an area with a high crime rate! If you ask 95% of People in these(or formerly these) areas you would have a totally different perspective and these people EXPERIENCED living in a "relatively" unsafe/lawless area. How frustrated would these people feel if they heard the views here?

No! Thats a teensy-weensy bit tooooo much!"...She's joking One THousand Million Per Cent!
  23. MitchK Wrote: > What a bunch of lily-livered liberals. It's > probably the highlight of the security guard's job > to beat up some shoplifter. 24. Advantage of being older is that we can say, like Max Boyce,"I was there"...London circa 1966-1970 onwards for a while. I could walk anywhere at any time day or night with little worry that I,as an innocent bystander would be caught up in crime(like that poor Guy in Walworth Costcutters last week). There were organised Gangs(well-documented) but the average Guy in the street was rarely involved. We DID pick up complete strangers in our cars in the street. That was widespread if people were going your way, some would not think twice. We could walk in and out of Council Blocks-now many are High-Security!..Newspaper vendors often simply left their papers in the street for anyone to buy and leave their money in a pile on the street. They would not have done that if there was a risk someone might nick the lot!.You knew your Milkman/Postman etc...Your Family DID live within the same Community. My Aunt lived next door.Another one's Gardens backed onto ours(I was passed over the fence!)All My Dads 7 Brothers/Sisters lived within 2 miles of Peckham etc...there was a real sense of Community. Now different Groups WILL look after other Members of that Groups(Read other Forums) but WILL NOT,usually,go beyond that!.If I broke down in the road (4 times in London) I KNEW strangers would help.Complete strangers in Lewisham,Deptford,Crayford and Walworth)..also picnickers in Brighton who changed our tyre for us(but thats another story)Can you imagine that now?...East Dulwich mmy be different but if anyone was in difficulties in the street there would be a host of people to intervene,Now?..Most are too scared to!..Marmora Man helped someone recently while,he said,2,000 others just watched.People are scared and there were NOT knives around,in general. It was very safe then and we would play out all hours without worry, you could not say that now, surely.
  25. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Tony, I think you mean The Griffin (so named after > the old Midland Bank logo). Didn't know > Sainsbury's owned it, it was Midlands, and is now > Kings, but could have been otherwise in between. ....Thanks Keef..It was indeed The Griffin!...Funny thing I used to Captain The Sainsburys(Hate the apostrophe!) Table Tennis Team in Blackfriars though I did not work for them.Played some Team-mates at Tennis on their superb Grass Courts and for years played my Mates there(though none of us had a right to be there)..To add to the fun after I dropped out my best M8 carried on playing there with his other Mates!..so the connection was even more remote!..On the final day they arrived as usual only to be told that they were not allowed there anymore as it was now not Sainsburys but Kings ownership!...They then explained that for the previous x years they should not have been there anyway>:D<
