  1. I think RPC and Rendel are agreeing that context is important when using words . So not that earth shattering really ,but good common ground . Where I can't see common ground is the conclusion drawn by Rendel from RPC's "I used to have a friend who used your argument every time she described something low-quality using the horrible abbreviation for Pakistani or a derogatory term for traveller." that he is accused of being the same as someone saying "P" or "G". And ,although all kinds of personal remarks and judgements will no doubt be winging their way to me for saying this ,I do sometimes find the use of the word lunatic offensive .For example in the phrase about taking over the asylum .
  2. Alan ,having looked at Thames water's website it looks as tho this is in hand .https://www.thameswater.co.uk/Help-and-Advice/Report-a-problem/Report-a-problem?type=leak "Reported Leak with potential traffic disruption SE22: Grove Vale Reference number: 31051623 Status : Planning We've completed our investigation on the leak on Grove Vale and raised the repair needed. We're continuning to work with the local council to plan the repair as quickly and safely as possible with minimal impact to local properties and public. Thanks for checking if we're aware of the leak. Find out more about the process of repairing a leak Traffic disruption Temporary traffic lights are in use at this location. We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause and ask motorists to bear with us while we carry out this essential work. Repairing road surfaces Any repairs to the road surface may take longer as we will need to liaise with the relevant local authority". I think traffic control may delay things .
  3. Oh do be quiet Rendel . Your constant derailing of threads to take offence is getting boring . "nobody finds offensive except in one context " it appears that you now feel entitled to speak for everyone .
  4. Ilona ,I think the Nippon bait stations are going to be the way to go https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stop-Bait-Station-Individual-contains/dp/B00757QH62/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_86_bs_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=WVVEKQWZHRXS9RQJE2NN

  6. Well done kristen ,do hope the dog is found and reunited .Good on you for trying to help .
  7. I spend a lot of time imagining the streets years ago . Looking at old census returns is fascinating as they give details of occupants and their employment . At the beginning of the census entry they sometimes describe the route taken ,I found a lovely one in the Bellenden /Choumert Rd area which referred to crossing a ditch on the edge of a field . And I've never forgotten ( tho not sure I can correctly convey it here ) a remark made by a lovely Suffolk born boyfriend on visiting this area back in the 70's which was along the lines of "think of all the fields under these streets ".
  8. excellent advice Nicola !
  9. They look 1920's/30's to me ,tho I'm not sure I could say what leads me to that view! I know you're looking for a style/name but maybe dating would help ? http://www.bricksandbrass.co.uk/houseage/house_dating_tool.php
  10. Article here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43421431 with details of gas supply to UK .
  11. From above link As a reminder of why we are protesting: Safety: 36 riders died on London?s streets in 2016. Initial, invalidated numbers suggest this has increase in 2017. We want schemes that put motorcyclists at risk such as lane narrowing and painted cycle lanes to stop and policies such as use of bus lanes to be consistently applied in all boroughs across London and across the UK Security: Theft of motorcycles & scooters and scooter enabled theft has reached epidemic levels within London. Over 16,000 motorcycles & scooters were stolen last year, a significant increase year on year. Criminals operate with impunity and our police forces are starved of funds and have their hands tied by fear of the IPCC. We need investment in prevention, detection and investigation capability to close these gangs down for good and we need policies that allow the police forces to chase & apprehend these criminals while at the same time ensuring sentencing is a true deterrent. We also want more secure parking to be provided by the boroughs in London. More and more insurance companies are pricing themselves out of London coverage leading many riders unable to afford to fund their means of commuting. Cost: Motorcycles & Scooters riders are happy to pay their way in proportionate costs. With the introduction of the (Ultra Low Emission Zone) ULEZ charge, older motorcycles & scooters will have to pay the same tariff as cars (?12.50 per day) This is despite Transport for London?s own data showing that motorcycles & scooters contribute less than 1% of the pollution in London. Adding this to the issues of insurance highlighted above, motorcycles & scooter riders are having to pay more and more to get to work.

  13. I've always just released mine outside .I know you're meant to take them some distance but it seemed to work .I guess if they're just popping in to your place as opposed to nesting and you've deployed the peppermint oil .it should be ok .
  14. Yes to peppermint oil . These humane traps work well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beat-Pest-Metal-Multi-Mouse/dp/B00K5T013M/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1521475302&sr=8-20&keywords=humane+mouse+trap I've seen then somewhere locally - DIY shop up at Plough ? Shop on Lordship Lane near Celestial shop ? Actually I have caught mice using a cardboard shoe box with a small entrance hole cut in one corner .Mice like to run around the edge of the room ,sticking close to the skirting board and they will run into a dark hidey hole like a box ,and stay in it if it has shredded newspaper and bait - yres to peanut butter .
  15. I believe it was scheduled for 2.30 DHFC statement " Helen Hayes MP's adjournment debate on our situation scheduled for 2:30pm in the House of Commons on Friday (16th)," http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/dulwichhamlet/news/club-statement-15032018-2216519.html
  16. I've lived here since 1951 and have racked what is left of my brains and can't recall anything . Out of interest roughly what years would the person have worked there ?
  17. Helen Hayes ‏ Verified account @helenhayes_ Follow Follow @helenhayes_ More I?m pleased to have secured a debate in Parliament on current issues facing @DulwichHamletFC on Friday 16 March
  18. top of Barry Rd near Dulwich Library and junction with Lordship Lane . part of church buildings .
  19. "intimidate and wear down" ...what DHFC ? So they'll give up and share a ground elsewhere ? I can't help thinking that it's just just as likely to rally support and encourage DHFC to carry on ?
  20. I wonder how likely it is that Meadows will just apply for and get retrospective planning permission ? Does anyone understand - and can explain to me - Meadow's motives in these v hostile acts ? registering DHFC trademarks etc locking them out of the ground erecting fences restricting access It may be obvious but I can't see what they gain out of it ? Is it the demise of DHFC ? Um ,but why the fences ? Some long term plan of adverse possession ?
  21. Thanks for that John ,helpful -to me anyway- to know .
  22. Curmudgeon ,well said . I completely agree with both points and the final concern .
  23. looks like a lengthy procedure with lots of scope for appeal by Meadow . I guess Southwark would cite building council homes and keeping the club as reasons , "Legislation in England and Wales gives many authorised bodies (referred to in this booklet as ?acquiring authorities?) the power to acquire land compulsorily where the landowner or occupier is not willing to sell by agreement. " "Compulsory purchase powers are provided to enable acquiring authorities to compulsorily purchase land to carry out a function which Parliament has decided is in the public interest" https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/571449/booklet1.pdf
  24. "Dulwich, who are exploring options to groundshare at other south London clubs as they seek to fulfil their remaining six home games this season, remain of interest to Rio Ferdinand?s affordable housing group, Legacy Foundation. The former England defender, who hails from nearby Peckham and is a close friend of the Dulwich manager, Gavin Rose, had proposed a development in compliance with Southwark Council?s requirements with a ?10m bid lodged with Meadow before Christmas. That was rejected, with subsequent efforts to re-enter negotiations having come to nothing." https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/mar/06/dulwich-hamlet-champion-hill-eviction-meadow-football
