I think Sabrina makes good points . I also think that the whole issue of homelessness is so great that it's painful to think about .To me ,this thread represents a way in which individuals can feel that they are "doing something " ,helping . But I believe that their help is missdirected ,missguided .Greater benefit could be achieved by a regular donation to one of the charities that work with homeless people . Surely that's not hard to understand ? I guess "adopting" our own EDF homeless person creates a temporary glow and feeling that someone has been helped - I'm guilty of this when I hand over money to people in the street .For me it's a knee jerk reaction and makes me feel a bit better about myself and a little less guilty about the money I've just spent on myself in the shops . BUT I think it's a delusion or pseudo helping behaviour as Alice has described it,the money would be better used in the hands of an organisation who work with the homeless .

If you have a velux window some firms will access the roof via that to do an initial investigation .

hp I bet the lease for your flat allows for bins in communal space .The groundfloor flat might not own as much as they think they do . Though I know a number of terraced houses do have tiny front spaces that might have accomodated the small bins that used to exist ,as opposed to the monsters we have now .

If people can't manage to read the leaflet put through their door before Christmas ( re collection times ) or check on line for which day of the week Southwark come along and collect garden/Xmas trees - what chance they'll all leave them out on the day a private collection service is being offered ?

But as I orginally suggested ,if your property has no brown bin why not look on line and find out what day the brown bin collection is for your nearest neighbour and put your tree out then ? Garden waste is collected weekly .I do think it's a bit off chucking a tree out on to the pavement just after the weekly collection so that it's an obstruction for everyone else( but cleared away for you and out of your home ) for several days .

I'm not sure why you don't have food/garden waste collection but I'd suggest finding out what day neighboroughing properties have theirs and leave the tree out on that day .

That's interesting Seabag . Isn't the tinnitus worse with the ear plugs in ? It's common isn't it for it be worse when things are quiet ,hence the background noise treatment . I have tinnitus .I hate it sometimes .

Just re reading the Dulwich Society report of the meeting . " The Council should deal with the homeless people who were now using the site." "The potential for an increase in crime in the area with people camping in the garden" Were there a number of homeless people there ? Is the remark about camping in the garden suggesting that IF people camped there might be an increase in crime or the people camping there might lead to an increase ? Has there been people camping there ?

macuted I'm with you on this ,I'm glad that someone is keeping an eye on it and not assuming that someone else will . My remark was meant to be addressed at kibris ( who from other posts would find a natural home on a the tiny things thread) and dog duck .Clearly both have no idea of what constitutues public spirit .And clearly it hasn't occured to either of them not to read a thread if they think it's trivial .

Isn't there a special thread for posters who are p*ssed off ? Tiny little things that cause me rage ,or some such title ?

It's hard to know what to do in a situation like this .I wondered if ringing the police is a correct course of action ...but I guess not . What do people think ?

hs - there's this post in the general section Re: homeless man Posted by jclarke Today, 08:20AM Hi I went to see him Christmas morning and take a parcel. Apparently when he came back Christmas eve he found his shelter had been on fire. The fire brigade attended and put out the fire, but all his belongings and bedding were either burnt or wet. Not sure whether it was done maliciously or by him accidentally, as he does smoke. His shelter is now exposed to the elements and the space is a mess. While I was there a couple arrived who seem to look after him. They were taking him to their home for Christmas dinner. Another person arrived with a chocolate Christmas log. Is there any handymen out there who could help him rebuild his shelter and provide tarpaulin? He also needs clothes and bedding.

Difficult and emotive . Like others I have personal experience of life saving care for an acute condition . But ,also like others ,I have had bad experience when it comes to chronic and non life threatening care .

Where does dropping chewing gum come in to the scheme of things ? In my book a worse offence .
