We don't know what has really gone on here . There are usually two sides to a story . "And if what she is quoted in the article as having done to harass her neighbours is untrue, then presumably she could get an apology printed, at least. I'd be a bit surprised if they would publish something like that without being pretty sure it was accurate. " I think the article reports her as admitting to playing music loudly at 4pm and being accused of, in the police notice ,of ?snide comments?, speaking about Mr Holtgreve and his partner ?in a derogatory way?, and ?shouting up at the windows in a provocative manner? and following a labourer from the address making money signs at him? It doesn't say how these accusations were verified, did the police witness them ? The last seems ....I don't know ,unlikely? odd ?And the former 3 ....a bit subjective ? "What I can't understand is, if the wall is in fact (and we don't know for sure, do we?) encroaching on her land, why she has apparently waited until it is completely built to make a fuss about it." Maybe the wall was built while Mrs Highland was away ,to avoid the noise and disruption ? She says it wasn't built where she had agreed . What is going on the pic in the ES article where workmen are shown on MrsH's side ,working on the wall ? We don't know ,we won't know I expect .Still the ES got a good story .

I think party wall agreements are targeted at ensuring works carried out on a boundary are agreed and safe . They assume that the line of the boundary has been agreed .

We only have one side of the story ,makes a better press article if one side is an out and out villian .Reality might be slightly different . Planning authorities don't deal with and AFAIK are not interested in boundary disputes . They will grant PP where a boundary is disputed . I'm sure the brown paper sacks are meant as an alternative not an adjunct to the brown wheelie bins . I use them if the bin is full ,like Sue .And also for collecting waste and emptying it into the bin . They are amazingingly resistant to rain and wet ,there need be no worries about condensation affecting their integrity .

On the whole I have no complaints about how bus drivers handle their bus . In fact I take my hat off to them ,especially those driving on narrow roads - P4 ,P13, etc . The ones who seem to stamp on the brakes for no discernible reason stand out because they are the exception . But I did have a rather exciting ride on a 197 the other week when we made record time from Penge to Peckham and the old excessive braking featured a lot !

Even more interesting George - I wish you were my PA ,I'm hopeless /lazy about this kind of thing . It had never occurred to me that one could opt out of certain items like accidental damage .The broker was suggeating I move from an existing Aviva policy to a new one . I think I should ditch the broker . The policy was one I had through work ,where the broker used by the firm offered good rates for employees . But those rates are no longer good . Thank you for posting George ,bit of a wake up call for me .

Has anyone else found brokers/insurance companies saying that living in a property with a history of subsidence or living in an area with subsidence limits policy choice and pushes up the price ? I've been told that contents policies have, as standard ,cover for rehousing if required and that if subsidence is likely ( or has happened in the past ) that they won't offer to risky properties . And no ,not an option to say please omit cover for rehousing .

Colin has just sorted out my wooden bike shed which was much in need of putting back together .Same with our side entrance . He was quick and resourceful - always able to find a soloution to a problem ( our neighbour doesn't like to have anything touching his property and this makes securing things difficult ) - cheerful and very reasonable . 07754 691541

I am a leaseholder/freeholder and need to extend lease and I'm wondering how straightforward this will be .I feel it should be straightforward but fear a solicitor may make it complicated . Maybe by PM if you were willing ? shazza I'm sorry things haven't worked out for you .Do hope you can fond a good solicitor and EA to help .I have heard good things about Noflies . Best of luck - you'll get there !

I have intervened in similar situations but I always worry afterwards that the "victim" will suffer more abuse later on as a result . Are there any teachers or others who work with this age group who could comment/advise ?

Begging Outside M&S on LL

Thanks for that Sally . Helpful post . -
Aristide - lots of areas marked as Nurseries on old maps of the area ,some to the south of Goodrich Rd . But I can't find any maps showing land to rear of 190 Friern and land to rear of 153 Barry Rd as a market garden . And ,with regard to the Friern Rd plot the Planning Inspectorate acknowledged the plot as being previously undeveloped . Lots of maps around - which one are you using ?
-
Ryeme - yes that's one of the dev I linked to above . Southwark's lovely historical maps show no evidence of any activity on that site https://geo.southwark.gov.uk/connect/analyst/mobile/#/main?overlays=Planning&mapcfg=Historic%20maps Interesting discussion covering Southwark's varying views on what constitutes "backland" and the Planning Inspectorate's view that the house was an imaginative response to what it agreed was previously undeveloped land . in the appeal decision http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?casereference=11/AP/0006&system=DC
-
There are all kinds of pieces of backland like this scattered around and I am tempted to agree with Aristide on the "what use for that land otherwise " theme . And I like the turntable idea to make vehicular exits easier . Of course consideration of the impact on neighbouring properties is crtical .I used to think that planning guidelines could be relied on to ensure that consideration was fair and proper . But I don't anymore .It's particularly irritating when advice/guidelines/procedures ( which it's taken years of consultation to produce ) are published and then applied in a seemingly random way - PP refused because access too restricted for 3 small properties but deemed ok if the application is for two large propeties.

Trial work days at a resturant, paid or not?
intexasatthe moment replied to Shamos's topic in The Lounge
Quite common for supply teaching assistants to be asked to do unpaid trial days in schools . Though using someone and then telling them they;re too young is out of order . -
None of the above prevented Southwark granting PP for both these previously undeveloped backland sites with restricted access http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9553701 http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk/documents/?casereference=11/AP/0006&system=DC

More water supply issues on Lordship Lane
intexasatthe moment replied to ianjm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe to do with who was responsible for and bearing cost of consultation/investigation ? S'wark could have made it a pre development condition if PP were ever granted . -
sandyman....but....surely the main point was that the slates were blown off ,so presumably the wind was strong enough ? Do insurance policies specify certain wind speeds before a claim can be made ?

I'm interested in details of wind speeds and direction in East Dulwich during the early morning of Jan 18th . I've found this https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/uk/london/historic?month=1&year=2018 which does seem to show a strong blast at 3.50am . Am I correct in intepreting the arrow as showing that the wind was coming from the West and blowing to the East ???

Right ,normal gardening stuff then but late in day . Were the activities noisy Louisa ? Loud chatting ?Dropping metal implements ? Do the outside lights shine into your house ? All of which could be disturbing . I wonder if they'd just come back from a visit to a different time zone and were trying to cope with tha dislocation ? Does seem odd . You're not having us on are you ?
-
"They do the full works," Louisa can you give details ? Then I'll be in better position to advise .Also I'm very curious/nosey/intrigued .
